Luka 7
1 Yesu kasa kyerɛɛ nkurɔfoɔ no wieeɛ no, ɔkɔɔ Kapernaum.
NOW after he had finished all these sayings in the ears of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2 Saa ɛberɛ no ara mu na Roma ɔsraani panin bi ɔsomfoɔ a ɔpɛ nʼasɛm yie yare dendeenden a ɔreyɛ awu.
And the servant of a certain centurion, who was very valuable to him, being seized with an illness, was ready to die.
3 Ɔsraani panin no tee Yesu nka no, ɔsomaa Yudafoɔ mpanimfoɔ bi sɛ wɔnkɔsrɛ no na ɔmmɛsa ne ɔsomfoɔ no yadeɛ mma no.
But when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, entreating him that he would come and preserve the life of his servant.
4 Wɔduruu Yesu nkyɛn no, wɔde asɛm no too nʼanim srɛɛ no sɛ, ɔmmoa ɔsraani panin no, ɛfiri sɛ, ɔyɛ onipa pa.
And when they came to Jesus, they entreated him importunately, saying, He is a worthy man on whom thou wilt confer this favour:
5 Wɔkaa sɛ, “Ɔyɛ obi a ɔdɔ yɛn ɔman na wasi hyiadan ama yɛn.”
for he loveth our nation, and hath himself built us a synagogue.
6 Yesu ne wɔn siim. Wɔreyɛ aduru efie hɔ no, ɔsraani panin no somaa ne nnamfo bi sɛ, wɔnkɔka nkyerɛ Yesu sɛ, “Awurade, nha wo ho, na mensɛ sɛ woba me fie.
Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion dispatched towards him friends, saying to him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not deserving that thou shouldest enter beneath my roof.
7 Saa ara na memfata sɛ meba baabi a wowɔ. Kasa, na me ɔsomfoɔ no ho bɛyɛ no den.
Therefore neither did I think myself worthy to come unto thee, but speak in a word, and my servant will be cured.
8 Meyɛ obi a mehyɛ tumi ase, nanso mewɔ asraafoɔ bebree hyɛ mʼase. Meka kyerɛ wɔn mu bi sɛ, ‘Kɔ’ a, ɔkɔ. Meka kyerɛ ɔfoforɔ sɛ, ‘Bra’ a, ɔba. Na mehyɛ me ɔsomfoɔ sɛ, ‘Yɛ yei’ a, ɔyɛ.”
For I also am a man under authority, and have under my command soldiers; and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come hither, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9 Yesu tee asɛm yi no, ne ho dwirii no na ɔdanee nʼani ka kyerɛɛ nnipakuo a wɔdi nʼakyi no sɛ, “Anokwa, Israelman mu nyinaa, menhunuu obiara a ɔwɔ gyidie sɛ saa ɔbarima yi da.”
Then Jesus, on hearing these things, respected him highly, and turning to the multitude which was following him, he said, I tell you, I have not found such faith, even in Israel.
10 Ɛberɛ a abɔfoɔ no sane kɔduruu efie hɔ no, wɔhunuu sɛ ɔsomfoɔ no ho ayɛ no den.
And they who were sent, on their return to the house, found the servant who was sick in perfect health.
11 Yei akyi no, Yesu ne nʼasuafoɔ ne nnipakuo bi a wɔka ne ho no kɔɔ kuro bi a wɔfrɛ no Nain mu.
And it came to pass the next day, that he went into a city called Nain; and a considerable number of his disciples went with him, and a vast multitude.
12 Wɔduruu kurotia no, ɔhunuu sɛ wɔrekɔsie obi. Na owufoɔ no yɛ ɔbaa kunafoɔ bi a ɔwɔ kuro no mu no ba barima korɔ. Na adɔfoɔ bebree di amu no akyi.
And as he drew near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was carrying out, an only son to his mother, and she a widow; and a great concourse of the city was with her.
13 Na Awurade hunuu no no, nʼasɛm yɛɛ no mmɔbɔ, na ɔka kyerɛɛ no sɛ, “Gyae su!”
And when Jesus saw her, he was moved with compassion for her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14 Yesu kɔsɔɔ efunu adaka no mu maa wɔn a ɛyɛ wɔn dea no gyinaeɛ. Ɔka kyerɛɛ owufoɔ no sɛ. “Aberanteɛ, mese wo sɛ, nyane!”
And approaching, he touched the bier: and the bearers stood still; and he said, Young man, I say to thee, Arise.
15 Aberanteɛ no sɔre tenaa ase na ɔkasaeɛ. Afei, Yesu de no maa ne maame.
And the dead man sat up, and began to speak: and he delivered him to his mother.
16 Nnipa no nyinaa ho dwirii wɔn yie na wɔyii Onyankopɔn ayɛ kaa sɛ, “Odiyifoɔ kɛseɛ bi asɔre wɔ yɛn mu, na Onyankopɔn asiane aba ne manfoɔ mu.”
And fear fell on all, and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us, and that God hath looked down with mercy on his people.
17 Deɛ Yesu yɛeɛ yi ho asɛm trɛ kɔduruu Yudea ne nkuro a atwa ho ahyia no nyinaa mu.
And this account respecting him went abroad through all Judea, and all the region adjacent.
18 Yohane asuafoɔ kɔbɔɔ no deɛ asi no nyinaa ho amaneɛ.
And his disciples informed John of all these things.
19 Yohane somaa nʼasuafoɔ no mu baanu kɔɔ Yesu nkyɛn kɔbisaa no sɛ, “Wone deɛ ɔreba no, anaasɛ yɛntwɛn ɔfoforɔ?”
And John calling two certain persons of his disciples, sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that cometh, or are we to expect another?
20 Asuafoɔ no duruu Yesu nkyɛn no, wɔka kyerɛɛ no sɛ, “Yohane Osubɔni asoma yɛn wo nkyɛn sɛ yɛmmɛbisa wo sɛ, wone deɛ ɔreba no anaasɛ yɛntwɛn ɔfoforɔ?”
Then the men came to him, saying, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that cometh, or are we to expect another?
21 Saa ɛberɛ no ara mu, Yesu saa nyarewa bebree; ɔtuu ahonhommɔne na ɔmaa anifirafoɔ hunuu adeɛ.
And in that very hour he cured many of diseases and acute complaints, and evil spirits; and to many blind persons he gave sight.
22 Yesu buaa wɔn sɛ. “Monkɔka deɛ moahunu na moate yi nkyerɛ Yohane sɛ, mema anifirafoɔ hunu adeɛ, mmubuafoɔ nante, mesa akwatafoɔ yadeɛ, asotifoɔ te asɛm, awufoɔ nyane, meka asɛmpa kyerɛ honhom mu ahiafoɔ.
And Jesus addressing them, said, Go, tell John what things ye have seen and heard: that the blind recover sight, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached unto them.
23 Nhyira ne deɛ merenyɛ no suntidua.”
And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended at me.
24 Yohane asuafoɔ no firii Yesu nkyɛn kɔeɛ no, Yesu dii Yohane ho adanseɛ kyerɛɛ nnipakuo no. Ɔbisaa wɔn sɛ, “Mokɔɔ ɛserɛ so no, ɛdeɛn na mohunuiɛ? Ɛserɛ a mframa rehim no anaa?
Now when John’s messengers were departed, he began to speak to the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
25 Na ɛnneɛ na ɛdeɛn na mohunuiɛ? Anaa na mosusu sɛ mobɛhunu ɔbarima bi a wahyehyɛ sɛ ɔhene ba te ahemfie?
But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in delicate garments? Behold, they who indulge in soft raiment, and delicate food, are in king’s palaces.
26 Anaa Onyankopɔn odiyifoɔ? Ɛnneɛ, mereka makyerɛ mo sɛ, ɔsene odiyifoɔ.
But what went ye out to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
27 Na saa Yohane yi na Atwerɛsɛm no ka fa ne ho sɛ, “‘Mɛsoma me ɔbɔfoɔ adi wʼanim ɛkan, ɔno na ɔbɛsiesie ɛkwan ama wo.’
For this is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.
28 Meka kyerɛ mo sɛ onipa biara nni hɔ a wɔawo no a ɔyɛ kɛse sene Yohane. Nanso, deɛ ɔyɛ aketewa koraa wɔ Ɔsoro Ahennie mu no yɛ ɔkɛseɛ sene no!”
For I tell you, of those born from woman, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he.
29 Na wɔn a wɔtee deɛ ɔkaeɛ no nyinaa a ɔtogyefoɔ mpo ka ho bi gye too mu sɛ, Onyankopɔn yɛ ɔteneneeni; na wɔsakyeraa wɔn adwene maa Yohane bɔɔ wɔn asu.
And all the people when they heard it, and the publicans, glorified God, being baptised with the baptism of John.
30 Na Farisifoɔ ne Mmaranimfoɔ no deɛ, wɔpoo Onyankopɔn asɛm enti, wɔamma Yohane ammɔ wɔn asu.
But the Pharisees and teachers of the law rejected the counsel of God towards themselves, not being baptised by him.
31 Yesu bisaa wɔn sɛ, “Ɛdeɛn na menka mfa nnɛmmafoɔ yi ho; na ɛdeɛn ho na memfa wɔn ntoto?
And the Lord said, To what then shall I compare the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
32 Wɔte sɛ mmɔfra bi a wɔregoro wɔ agodibea na wɔn mu bi reka akyerɛ afoforɔ sɛ, “‘Yɛtoo anigyeɛ nnwom maa mo, nanso moansa; Yɛtoo awerɛhoɔ nnwom nso maa mo, nanso moansu.’
They are like to children sitting in the markets, and calling to each other, and saying, We have played the flute to you, and ye have not danced; we have raised the cry of mourning, and ye have not wept.
33 Yohane Osubɔni aba a ɔnnidi na ɔnnom nsã, nso mose, ‘Ɔwɔ honhommɔne.’
For John the Baptist came neither eating bread, nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.
34 Onipa Ba no nso aba a ɔdidi na ɔnom a mose, ‘Monhwɛ odidifoɔ ne ɔsanomfoɔ a ɔyɛ ɔtogyefoɔ ne nnebɔneyɛfoɔ adamfo!’
The Son of man is come eating and drinking, and ye say, A gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
35 Nanso, wɔn a wɔdi Onyankopɔn akyi nokorɛ mu no deɛ, wɔn ɔbra di adanseɛ sɛ, nʼakwan nyinaa yɛ.”
though wisdom hath been justified by her children.
36 Farisini bi frɛɛ Yesu adidie ma ɔpenee so kɔeɛ.
Then one of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to table.
37 Ɔte hɔ redidi no, ɔbaa bi a ɔbu ɔbra bɔne wɔ kuro no mu tee ne nka no, ɔde aduhwam bi a ɛsom bo tumpan ma kɔɔ hɔ.
And, behold, a certain woman in the city, who was a notorious offender, when she knew that Jesus was sitting at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster vessel of odoriferous balm,
38 Ɔkotoo Yesu nan ase suiɛ, maa ne nisuo no fɔɔ Yesu nan ase. Afei, ɔde ne tirinwi pepaa nisuo no, sɔɔ ne nan de aduhwam no sraa ho.
and standing at his feet behind him, began to water his feet with her tears, and to wipe them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the perfumed balm.
39 Farisini a ɔfrɛɛ Yesu adidi no hunuu deɛ ɔbaa no yɛeɛ no, ɔkaa wɔ ne tirim sɛ, “Sɛ saa onipa yi yɛ odiyifoɔ ampa ara a, anka ɔbɛhunu sɛ saa ɔbaa yi bu ɔbra bɔne.”
And when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said within himself, If this man were a prophet, he would know who and what kind of a woman this is that toucheth him; for she is a notorious sinner.
40 Yesu hunuu Farisini no adwene ma ɔka kyerɛɛ no sɛ, “Simon, mewɔ asɛm bi ka kyerɛ wo.” Simon nso ka kyerɛɛ Yesu sɛ, “Ɔkyerɛkyerɛfoɔ, ka ɛ.”
And Jesus addressing himself to him said, Simon, I have somewhat to say to thee. And he said, Master, speak freely.
41 Yesu ka kyerɛɛ no sɛ, “Osikani bi bɔɔ nnipa baanu bi bosea. Ɔmaa ɔbaako denare aha enum; ɛnna ɔbaako no nso ɔmaa no denare aduonum.
A certain creditor had two debtors, the one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42 Wɔn mu biara antumi antua ne ka a ɔde no no enti, ɔde kyɛɛ wɔn. Wɔn mu hwan na wogye di sɛ ɔbɛpɛ osikani no asɛm yie?”
But having nothing to pay, he forgave them both. Tell me, which of these, then, will love him most?
43 Simon buaa sɛ, “Megye di sɛ deɛ ɔde ne ka kɛseɛ kyɛɛ no no.” Yesu kaa sɛ, “Woabua no yie.”
And Simon answering said, I suppose, he to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast judged rightly.
44 Afei, Yesu danee nʼani kyerɛɛ ɔbaa no bisaa Simon sɛ, “Woahunu saa ɔbaa yi? Mebaa wo fie, woamma me nsuo anhohoro me nan ase; nanso saa ɔbaa yi de ne nisuo ahohoro me nan ase, asane de ne tirinwi apepa.
So turning to the woman, he said to Simon, Thou seest this woman? I came into thine house, even water for my feet thou gavest not; but she hath washed my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Mebaeɛ yi, woanyɛ me atuu amfa amma me akwaaba; nanso ɛfiri ɛberɛ a ɔbaa yi bɛtoo me wɔ ha yi, ɔnnyaee me nan mu sɔ.
One kiss hast thou not given me, but she from the time she hath come in, hath not ceased tenderly to kiss my feet.
46 Woamfa ngo amfɔ me tirim; nanso ɔbaa yi de aduhwam a ɛsom bo asra me nan ase.
My head with oil thou hast not anointed; but she hath anointed my feet with odoriferous balm.
47 Yei enti mereka akyerɛ wo sɛ, deɛ ɔbaa yi ayɛ enti, wɔde ne bɔne a ɛdɔɔso no akyɛ no, ɛfiri sɛ, wayi ɔdɔ kɛseɛ bi adi akyerɛ. Na deɛ wɔde ne bɔne a ɛsua akyɛ no no, ne dɔ nso sua.”
For which cause, I tell thee, her many sins are forgiven, for she hath loved much: but to whom a little is forgiven, he loveth little.
48 Afei, Yesu ka kyerɛɛ ɔbaa no sɛ, “Wɔde wo bɔne akyɛ wo.”
And he said to her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49 Wɔn a ɔne wɔn te adidiiɛ no bisabisaa wɔn ho wɔn ho sɛ, “Hwan ne saa onipa yi a ɔtumi de bɔne kyɛ?”
And they who sat at table with him began to say in themselves, Who is this, who even forgives sins?
50 Yesu ka kyerɛɛ ɔbaa no sɛ, “Wo gyidie agye wo nkwa. Fa asomdwoeɛ kɔ.”
But he said unto the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
