Luka 23
1 Afei, badwafoɔ no sɔre de Yesu kɔɔ Pilato anim.
And the whole multitude of them, rising up, led him to Pilate.
2 Wɔfirii aseɛ totoo nʼano sɛ, “Saa onipa yi tu nkurɔfoɔ aso. Ɔmpene so sɛ ɔmanfoɔ tua toɔ ma Kaesare aban, na ɔfrɛ ne ho sɛ ɔhene Kristo no.”
And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this [man] perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king.
3 Yei maa Pilato bisaa no sɛ, “Wone Yudafoɔ ɔhene no anaa?” Yesu buaa no sɛ, “Ɛno ara na woaka no.”
And Pilate demanded of him saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? And he answering him said, Thou sayest.
4 Pilato ka kyerɛɛ asɔfoɔ mpanin ne nnipadɔm no sɛ, “Menhunu asɛm biara a mɛgyina so abu onipa yi fɔ.”
And Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, I find no guilt in this man.
5 Nanso, wɔn bo antɔ wɔn yam kɔɔ so kaa sɛ, “Ɔyɛ ɔmammɔfoɔ baabiara a ɔkɔ no, ɔnam ne nkyerɛkyerɛ so de hwanyan nnipa no tia aban. Ɔde ne nkyerɛkyerɛ yi firi Galilea bɛfaa Yudeaman mu nyinaa abɛduru Yerusalem ha.”
But they insisted, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judaea, beginning from Galilee even on to here.
6 Pilato tee asɛm yi no, ɔbisaa sɛ, “Onipa yi yɛ Galileani anaa?”
But Pilate, having heard Galilee [named], demanded if the man were a Galilaean;
7 Ɛberɛ a wɔka kyerɛɛ Pilato sɛ Yesu yɛ Galileani no, ɔka kyerɛɛ wɔn sɛ, sɛ ɛte saa deɛ a, wɔmfa no nkɔ Ɔhene Herode anim, ɛfiri sɛ, Galilea hyɛ nʼase. Saa ɛberɛ no ara nso na Ɔhene Herode wɔ Yerusalem.
and having learned that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, remitted him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem in those days.
8 Esiane sɛ wate Yesu ho asɛm na ɔsusu nso sɛ, sɛ ɔba nʼanim a, ɔbɛyɛ anwanwadeɛ akyerɛ no no enti, ɛberɛ a ɔhunuu no no, nʼani gyee yie, ɛfiri sɛ, ɔpɛɛ sɛ ɔbɛhunu no no, na akyɛre.
And when Herod saw Jesus he greatly rejoiced, for he had been a long while desirous of seeing him, because of hearing many things concerning him, and he hoped to see some sign done by him;
9 Wɔbisabisaa Yesu nsɛm bebree, nanso emu biara nni hɔ a ɔyii ano.
and he questioned him in many words, but he answered him nothing.
10 Asɔfoɔ mpanin no ne Atwerɛsɛm no akyerɛkyerɛfoɔ no kɔɔ so ara kaa nsɛm a ɛnnim guu ne so.
And the chief priests and the scribes stood and accused him violently.
11 Herode ne nʼasomfoɔ no bɔɔ Yesu adapaa, dii ne ho fɛw. Afei, Herode hyehyɛɛ no sɛ ɔhene sane de no kɔmaa Pilato.
And Herod with his troops having set him at nought and mocked him, having put a splendid robe upon him, sent him back to Pilate.
12 Ɛda no ara, Herode ne Pilato a anka wɔyɛ aka no, bɔɔ mu.
And Pilate and Herod became friends with one another the same day, for they had been at enmity before between themselves.
13 Wɔde Yesu kɔmaa Pilato no, ɔfrɛɛ asɔfoɔ mpanin ne Yudafoɔ mpanin ne nnipadɔm no,
And Pilate, having called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 ka kyerɛɛ wɔn sɛ, “Mode onipa yi brɛɛ me sɛ, ɔyɛ obi a ɔnam ne nkyerɛkyerɛ so hwanyan nnipa, tia aban. Mahwehwɛ nsɛm a moka guu ne so no mu wɔ mo anim, nanso menhunu afɔbusɛm biara a mɛgyina so mabu no fɔ.
said to them, Ye have brought to me this man as turning away the people [to rebellion], and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found nothing criminal in this man as to the things of which ye accuse him;
15 Saa ara nso na Herode annya asɛm bi annyina so ammu no fɔ a ɛno enti, wasane de no abrɛ yɛn yi. Ɔnyɛɛ bɔne biara a ɛsɛ sɛ megyina so bu no kumfɔ.
nor Herod either, for I remitted you to him, and behold, nothing worthy of death is done by him.
16 Mɛbɔ no mmaa na magyaa no.”
Having chastised him therefore, I will release him.
17 Twam Afahyɛ biara, Pilato gyaa odeduani baako ma wɔn.
(Now he was obliged to release one for them at the feast.)
18 Pilato kasa no akyi no, nnipadɔm no nyinaa bɔ gyee so sɛ, “Ku no, na gyaa Baraba ma yɛn.”
But they cried out in a mass saying, Away with this [man] and release Barabbas to us;
19 Baraba yi yɛ obi a ɔhwanyane ɔman na ɔsane dii awu enti, wɔde no too afiase.
who was one who, for a certain tumult which had taken place in the city, and [for] murder, had been cast into prison.
20 Pilato kɔɔ so di maa Yesu pɛɛ sɛ ɔgyaa no.
Pilate therefore, desirous to release Jesus, again addressed [them].
21 Nanso, wɔsane bɔ gyee so bio se, “Bɔ no asɛnnua mu! Bɔ no asɛnnua mu!”
But they cried out in reply saying, Crucify, crucify him.
22 Ɔbisaa wɔn ne mprɛnsa so sɛ, “Adɛn? Ɛdeɛn bɔne na wayɛ? Menhunu afɔbusɛm biara a mɛgyina so abu no kumfɔ. Mɛbɔ no mmaa na magyaa no.”
And he said the third time to them, What evil then has this [man] done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will chastise him therefore and release him.
23 Nanso, wɔbɔ gyee so ara maa wɔn nne bu faa Pilato deɛ no so sɛ, ɔmmɔ no asɛnnua mu.
But they were urgent with loud voices, begging that he might be crucified. And their voices [and those of the chief priests] prevailed.
24 Enti, Pilato penee wɔn abisadeɛ no so maa wɔn.
And Pilate adjudged that what they begged should take place.
25 Wɔgyaee Baraba a ɛsiane sɛ ɔhwanyanee ɔman sane dii awu no enti, ɔde no too afiase no maa wɔn. Na ɔde Yesu maa wɔn sɛdeɛ wɔpɛ no.
And he released him who, for tumult and murder, had been cast into prison, whom they begged for, and Jesus he delivered up to their will.
26 Afei, wɔde Yesu rekɔ akɔbɔ no asɛnnua mu no, wɔhyiaa Kireneni bi a wɔfrɛ no Simon sɛ ɔfiri afuom reba Yerusalem. Wɔkyeree no, hyɛɛ no ma ɔsoaa Yesu asɛnnua no wɔ ne kɔn ho, dii nʼakyi.
And as they led him away, they laid hold on a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, and put the cross upon him to bear it behind Jesus.
27 Nnipadɔm a mmaa a wɔresu retwa agyaadwoɔ fra wɔn mu no, tu dii nʼakyi.
And a great multitude of the people, and of women who wailed and lamented him, followed him.
28 Yesu danee ne ho ka kyerɛɛ wɔn sɛ, “Yerusalem mma, monnsu me na monsu mo ho ne mo mma.
And Jesus turning round to them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over me, but weep over yourselves and over your children;
29 Na mmerɛ bi reba a wɔbɛka sɛ, ‘Nhyira ne abonini ne yafunu a ɛnwoo da ne nufoɔ a wɔnnum da.’
for behold, days are coming in which they will say, Blessed [are] the barren, and wombs that have not borne, and breasts that have not given suck.
30 Saa ɛberɛ no “‘na wɔbɛka akyerɛ mmepɔ sɛ, “Dwiri gu yɛn so!” ne nkokoɔ nso sɛ, “Kata yɛn so!”’
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall upon us; and to the hills, Cover us:
31 Na sɛ wɔde yei yɛ me a meyɛ dua mono no a, ɛdeɛn na wɔde bɛyɛ mo a moyɛ dua wuiɛ?”
for if these things are done in the green tree, what shall take place in the dry?
32 Ɛberɛ a wɔde Yesu rekɔ no, wɔde nnebɔneyɛfoɔ baanu bi kaa ne ho sɛ wɔnkɔku wɔn.
Now two others also, malefactors, were led with him to be put to death.
33 Wɔduruu faako a wɔfrɛ hɔ Golgota no, wɔbɔɔ ɔne nnebɔneyɛfoɔ baanu no asɛnnua mu a ɔbaako wɔ ne nifa na ɔbaako nso wɔ ne benkum.
And when they came to the place which is called Skull, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, the other on the left.
34 Yesu kaa sɛ, “Agya, fa kyɛ wɔn, ɛfiri sɛ, wɔnnim deɛ wɔreyɛ.” Afei, asraafoɔ no kyekyɛɛ ne ntadeɛ mu bɔɔ so ntonto faeɛ.
And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And, parting out his garments, they cast lots.
35 Saa ɛberɛ no na nnipadɔm no gyinagyina hɔ rehwɛ no. Yudafoɔ mpanimfoɔ no dii ne ho fɛw sɛ, “Ɔgyee ebinom nkwa; sɛ ɔse ɔno ne Kristo, Onyankopɔn Ba no a, ɔnnye ne ho nkwa na yɛnhwɛ.”
And the people stood beholding, and the rulers also [with them] sneered, saying, He has saved others; let him save himself if this is the Christ, the chosen one of God.
36 Asraafoɔ no nso dii ne ho fɛw de nsã a ɛkeka bi brɛɛ no
And the soldiers also made game of him, coming up offering him vinegar,
37 kaa sɛ, “Sɛ wone Yudafoɔ ɔhene no a, gye wo ho nkwa.”
and saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
38 Wɔtwerɛɛ saa asɛm yi bɔɔ nʼatifi wɔ asɛnnua no so sɛ, Yudafoɔ Ɔhene no ni.
And there was also an inscription [written] over him in Greek, and Roman, and Hebrew letters: This is the King of the Jews.
39 Nnebɔneyɛfoɔ baanu a na wɔn nso wɔabɔ wɔn asɛnnua mu no mu baako dii Yesu ho fɛ sɛ, “Ɛnyɛ wone Kristo no? Gye wo ho na gye yɛn nso.”
Now one of the malefactors who had been hanged spoke insultingly to him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.
40 Nanso, ɔdebɔneyɛfoɔ a ɔka ho no, kaa nʼanim sɛ, “Wonsuro Onyankopɔn? Hunu sɛ yɛn nyinaa wɔ afɔbuo korɔ no ara mu.
But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost thou too not fear God, thou that art under the same judgment?
41 Yɛn deɛ, saa asotwe yi fata yɛn; yɛn bɔne so akatua na yɛanya yi, na yei deɛ, ɔnyɛɛ bɔne biara.”
and we indeed justly, for we receive the just recompense of what we have done; but this [man] has done nothing amiss.
42 Ɔsane kaa sɛ, “Yesu, woduru wʼAhennie mu a, kae me.”
And he said to Jesus, Remember me, [Lord, ] when thou comest in thy kingdom.
43 Yesu buaa no sɛ, “Merehyɛ wo bɔ sɛ, ɛnnɛ, wobɛka me ho wɔ Paradise.”
And Jesus said to him, Verily I say to thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
44 Ɛduruu owigyinaeɛ no, asase no so nyinaa duruu esum kabii kɔsii nnɔnmiɛnsa.
And it was about [the] sixth hour, and there came darkness over the whole land until [the] ninth hour.
45 Owia duruu sum na ntoma a ɛtwa asɔredan no mu nso mu tee mmienu.
And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple rent in the midst.
46 Yesu teaam denden sɛ, “Agya, wo nsam na mede me honhom mehyɛ!” Ɔkaa yei no, ɔgyaa mu.
And Jesus, having cried with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit. And having said this, he expired.
47 Asraafoɔ panin a na ɔgyina hɔ no hunuu deɛ asi no, ɔyii Onyankopɔn ayɛ sɛ, “Ampa ara, saa onipa yi yɛ ɔteneneeni.”
Now the centurion, seeing what took place, glorified God, saying, In very deed this man was just.
48 Nnipa a wɔbaa hɔ bɛhwɛɛ Yesu asɛnnuambɔ no hunuu sɛ wawu no, wɔde awerɛhoɔ firii hɔ kɔeɛ.
And all the crowds who had come together to that sight, having seen the things that took place, returned, beating [their] breasts.
49 Saa ɛberɛ no na Yesu nnamfo ne mmaa bi a wɔdii nʼakyi firi Galilea baeɛ no gyinagyina akyirikyiri baabi rehwɛ deɛ ɛrekɔ so no nyinaa.
And all those who knew him stood afar off, the women also who had followed him from Galilee, beholding these things.
50 Na ɔbarima bi wɔ hɔ a wɔfrɛ no Yosef a ɔfiri Arimatea a ɛwɔ Yudaman mu. Saa ɔbarima yi, na ɔyɛ onipa pa a ɔtene wɔ Onyankopɔn anim a na ɔretwɛn Onyankopɔn Ahennie a ɛbɛba no.
And behold, a man named Joseph, who was a councillor, a good man and a just
51 Ɛwom sɛ na ɔyɛ Yudafoɔ badwafoɔ no mu baako deɛ, nanso wampene gyinaeɛ a wɔsisiiɛ ne deɛ wɔyɛeɛ no so.
(this [man] had not assented to their counsel and deed), of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who also waited, [himself also, ] for the kingdom of God
52 Ɔkɔɔ Pilato nkyɛn kɔsrɛɛ Yesu amu no.
— he having gone to Pilate begged the body of Jesus;
53 Ɔmaa wɔyii Yesu amu no maa no, na ɔde nwera kyekyeree no de no kɔtoo ɔboda bi a obiara nnaa mu da no mu.
and having taken it down, wrapped it in fine linen and placed him in a tomb hewn in the rock, where no one had ever been laid.
54 Wɔsiee Yesu Efiada a na Yudafoɔ resiesie wɔn ho atwɛn Homeda no.
And it was preparation day, and [the] sabbath twilight was coming on.
55 Wɔsiee amu no wieeɛ no, mmaa a wɔdi Yesu akyi firi Galilea no ne Yosef kɔhwɛɛ faako a wɔde no toeɛ ne sɛdeɛ wɔsiee no faeɛ.
And women, who had come along with him out of Galilee, having followed, saw the sepulchre and how his body was placed.
56 Saa mmaa yi sanee wɔn akyi kɔɔ efie kɔhwehwɛɛ nnuhwam ne ngo a wɔde bɛsiesie Yesu amu no, nanso ɛsiane sɛ na Homeda no aduru enti, wɔtenaa ase komm sɛdeɛ Yudafoɔ mmara kyerɛ no.
And having returned they prepared aromatic spices and ointments, and remained quiet on the sabbath, according to the commandment.
