< Atemmufoɔ 11 >

1 Gileadni Yefta yɛ ɔkofoɔ kɛseɛ. Nʼagya din de Gilead. Nanso ne maame yɛ ɔbaa dwamanfoɔ.
Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.
2 Gilead yere woo mmammarima bebree, na saa mmammarima no nyinyiniiɛ no, wɔpamoo Yefta firii asase no so. Wɔka kyerɛɛ no sɛ, “Worennya yɛn agya agyapadeɛ biara, ɛfiri sɛ, woyɛ ɔbaa dwamanfoɔ bi ba.”
And Gilead’s wife bore him sons; and his wife’s sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said to him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father’s house; for thou art the son of a another woman.
3 Enti Yefta dwane firii ne nuanom nkyɛn kɔtenaa Tob asase so. Ankyɛre, ɔnyaa atuatefoɔ bebree bɛdii nʼakyi.
Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered worthless men to Jephthah, and they went out with him.
4 Ɛberɛ korɔ yi ara, Amonfoɔ de ɔko bɛkaa Israel.
And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
5 Ɛberɛ a Amonfoɔ to hyɛɛ Israelfoɔ so, Gilead mpanimfoɔ soma kɔfaa Yefta firii Tob asase so baeɛ. Wɔka kyerɛɛ no sɛ,
And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to bring Jephthah out of the land of Tob:
6 “Bra na bɛyɛ yɛn so ɔsahene! Boa yɛn ma yɛne Amonfoɔ nko.”
And they said to Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
7 Yefta bisaa wɔn sɛ, “Ɛnyɛ mo na motane me, pamoo me firii mʼagya fie no? Adɛn enti na afei a mowɔ ɔhaw mu no, morebɛfrɛ me?”
And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Did ye not hate me, and drive me out of my father’s house? and why have ye come to me now when ye are in distress?
8 Gilead mpanimfoɔ no ka kyerɛɛ Yefta sɛ, “Wo ho hia yɛn. Sɛ wodi yɛn anim ma yɛko tia Amonfoɔ a, yɛbɛyɛ wo Gileadfoɔ nyinaa sodifoɔ.”
And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
9 Yefta buaa sɛ, “Sɛ me ne mo kɔ na Awurade ma medi Amonfoɔ so nkonim a, ampa ara sɛ mode me bɛyɛ nnipa no nyinaa sodifoɔ anaa?”
And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
10 Gilead ntuanofoɔ no buaa no sɛ, “Awurade ne yɛn danseni. Yɛbɛyɛ sɛdeɛ woka biara.”
And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, The LORD be a witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words.
11 Enti, Yefta ne ntuanofoɔ no kɔɔ Gilead. Na wɔde no yɛɛ wɔn sodifoɔ ne ɔsahene. Na Yefta tii nsɛm no nyinaa mu wɔ Mispa wɔ Awurade anim.
Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.
12 Afei, Yefta somaa abɔfoɔ kɔɔ Amonfoɔ ɔhene nkyɛn sɛ wɔnkɔbisa no deɛ enti a ɔrebɛto ahyɛ Israel so.
And Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou hast come against me to fight in my land?
13 Amonfoɔ ɔhene buaa Yefta abɔfoɔ no sɛ, “Ɛberɛ a Israel firii Misraim baeɛ no, wɔfaa mʼasase a ɛfiri Asubɔnten Arnon de kɔsi Asubɔnten Yabok, toaso kɔsi Yordan. Enti, sane fa mʼadeɛ ma me asomdwoeɛ mu.”
And the king of the children of Ammon answered to the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came out of Egypt, from Arnon even to Jabbok, and to Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.
14 Na Yefta sane somaa abɔfoɔ kɔɔ Amonfoɔ ɔhene hɔ sɛ,
And Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon:
15 “Sɛdeɛ Yefta seɛ nie: Israel amfa Moab asase anaa Amonfoɔ asase biara.
And said to him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:
16 Ɛberɛ a Israelfoɔ tuu kwan firii Misraim, twaa Ɛpo Kɔkɔɔ na wɔduruu Kades no,
But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness to the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;
17 wɔsomaa abɔfoɔ kɔɔ Edomhene hɔ sɛ ɔmma wɔn ɛkwan na wɔmfa nʼasase no so. Nanso Edomhene ampene. Wɔsoma ma wɔkɔɔ Moabhene hɔ, nanso ɔno nso ampene. Enti, Israelfoɔ tenaa Kades.
Then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken to it. And in like manner they sent to the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
18 “Ne korakora ne sɛ, wɔnam ɛserɛ so twa faa Edom ne Moab ho hyiaeɛ. Wɔfaa Edom apueeɛ fam hyeɛ so kyeree sraban wɔ Asubɔnten Arnon fa hɔ. Nanso, wɔantwa Asubɔnten Arnon ankɔ Moab asase so.
Then they went along through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and encamped on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
19 “Afei, Israelfoɔ somaa abɔfoɔ kɔɔ Amorifoɔhene Sihon a ɔdii adeɛ firi Hesbon na wɔbisaa ɛkwan sɛ wɔpɛ sɛ wɔfa nʼasase so kɔ baabi a wɔrekɔ.
And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land to my place.
20 Nanso, ɛsiane sɛ na ɔhene Sihon nni Israelfoɔ mu gyidie enti ɔboaboaa ne dɔm ano wɔ Yahas maa wɔto hyɛɛ wɔn so.
But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his land: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21 “Na Awurade, Israel Onyankopɔn, maa ne nkurɔfoɔ dii ɔhene Sihon so. Enti, Israelfoɔ faa Amorifoɔ asase a na wɔte so wɔ ɔmantam no mu
And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
22 firi Asubɔnten Arnon de kɔsi Asubɔnten Yabok, firi ɛserɛ no so de kɔsi Yordan nyinaa dii so.
And they possessed all the land of the Amorites, from Arnon even to Jabbok, and from the wilderness even to Jordan.
23 “Enti, moahunu, ɛyɛ Awurade, Israel Onyankopɔn na ɔgyee asase no firii Amorifoɔ nsam na ɔde maa Israel. Enti, adɛn na ɛsɛ sɛ yɛde ma mo?
So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?
24 Deɛ mo nyame Kemos de maa mo no momfa, na yɛn nso, deɛ Awurade, yɛn Onyankopɔn de maa yɛn biara no yɛafa.
Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
25 Mosene Sipor babarima Balak a na ɔyɛ Moabhene no? Ɔne Israel twee asase bi so manso anaa? Ɔkɔɔ ɔko anaa? Dabi.
And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,
26 Na afei, mfeɛ ahasa akyi, na woama saa asɛm yi so? Israel atena ha saa ɛberɛ tenten yi, wɔatrɛ afiri Hesbon asase so, akɔsi Aroer ne nkuro no nyinaa so, akɔfa Asubɔnten Arnon ano. Adɛn enti na dadaada yi moanyɛ mo adwene sɛ mobɛgye asase yi?
While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that are along by the banks of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?
27 Menyɛɛ mo bɔne. Mmom, mo na moayɛ me bɔne sɛ moto hyɛɛ me so. Momma Awurade a ɔyɛ ɔtemmufoɔ no mmua ɛnnɛ, sɛ yɛn mu hwan na nʼasɛm yɛ dɛ? Israel anaa Amon.”
Therefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.
28 Nanso, Amonhene amfa Yefta asɛm no asɛmhia.
But the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not to the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
29 Saa ɛberɛ no, Awurade Honhom baa Yefta so ma ɔkɔɔ Gilead ne Manase nsase nyinaa so a, Mispa a ɛwɔ Gilead ka ho. Na ɔdii akodɔm anim to hyɛɛ Amonfoɔ so.
Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over to the children of Ammon.
30 Na Yefta hyɛɛ Awurade bɔ. Ɔkaa sɛ, “Sɛ woma medi Amonfoɔ so a,
And Jephthah vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into my hands,
31 mede adeɛ a ɛbɛdi ɛkan afiri me fie abɛhyia me ɛberɛ a mede nkonimdie reba no, bɛma Awurade. Mede bɛma no sɛ ɔhyeɛ afɔdeɛ.”
Then it shall be, that whatever cometh out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD’S, and I will offer it for a burnt offering.
32 Ɛnna Yefta dii nʼakodɔm anim tiaa Amonfoɔ, na Awurade ma ɔdii nkonim.
So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.
33 Ɔdii Amonfoɔ so pasaa, sɛee nkuro bɛyɛ aduonu, firii Aroer de kɔsii baabi a ɛbɛn Minit, kɔeɛ ara kɔsii Abel-Keramim. Saa ɛkwan yi na Israelfoɔ faa so kaa Amonfoɔ hyɛeɛ.
And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou comest to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
34 Ɛberɛ a Yefta firi akono kɔɔ ne fie wɔ Mispa no, ne babaa, a ɔyɛ ne ba korɔ no, tuu mmirika bɛhyiaa no a ɔrebɔ akasaeɛ, na anigyeɛ enti, ɔresa.
And Jephthah came to Mizpeh to his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.
35 Yefta hunuu no no, ɔde awerɛhoɔ sunsuanee ne ntadeɛ mu, teaam sɛ, “Ao, me ba, mʼakoma rete! Ɛdeɛn ahometesɛm sɛ woaba, rebɛhyia me. Na maka Awurade ntam na merentumi mmu so.”
And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he tore his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth to the LORD, and I cannot go back.
36 Ne babaa no buaa sɛ, “Mʼagya, woahyɛ Awurade bɔ. Yɛ me sɛdeɛ woahyɛ bɔ no, ɛfiri sɛ Awurade ama woadi wʼatamfoɔ a wɔyɛ Amonfoɔ no so nkonim.
And she said to him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth to the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thy enemies, even of the children of Ammon.
37 Nanso, deɛ ɛdi ɛkan no, ma memforo mmepɔ nkɔkyinkyini so na me ne me nnamfonom nsu abosome mmienu, ɛfiri sɛ, mɛwu sɛ ababaawa a menhunuu ɔbarima da.”
And she said to her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.
38 Yefta ka kyerɛɛ no sɛ, “Wotumi kɔ.” Enti, ɔmaa no kɔ kɔdii abosome mmienu. Ɔne ne nnamfonom kɔɔ mmepɔ no so kɔsuiɛ, ɛfiri sɛ, ɔrennya mma.
And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.
39 Ɛberɛ a ɔsane baa fie no, nʼagya dii ne bɔhyɛ so. Enti ɔwuu sɛ ababaawa a ɔnhunuu ɔbarima da. Yei abɛyɛ amanneɛ wɔ Israel
And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,
40 ama Israel mmaabunu sɛ afe biara wɔbɛkɔ baabi akɔdi nna ɛnan na wɔakɔsu Yefta babaa no nkrabea.
That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
