< Yosua 7 >
1 Nanso, Israel anni nokorɛ wɔ nneɛma a wɔgya maa Awurade no ho. Ɔbarima bi a wɔfrɛ no Akan wiaa saa nneɛma no bi, enti Awurade bo fuu Israelfoɔ no yie. Akan yɛ Karmi a ɔfiri Simri efie mu, na ɔbɔ Serah abusua a ɛwɔ Yuda abusuakuo mu no babarima.
But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against the children of Israel.
2 Yosua somaa ne nnipa no bi firi Yeriko sɛ wɔnkɔsra Ai kuropɔn a ɛwɔ Bet-El apueeɛ a ɛbɛn Bet-Awen no.
Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.
3 Wɔsane baeɛ no, wɔbɛka kyerɛɛ Yosua sɛ, “Kuro no sua enti, ɛrenhia nnipa mpenu anaa mpensa sɛ wɔbɛsɛe kuropɔn no. Ɛho nhia sɛ yɛn nyinaa bɛkɔ hɔ.”
They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Do not let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Do not make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”
4 Enti, wɔde akofoɔ bɛyɛ mpensa kɔɔ hɔ nanso wɔdii Israelfoɔ no so pasaa. Ai mmarima
So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.
5 taa Israelfoɔ no firi kuropɔn no ɛpono ano kɔsii Sebarim, na wɔkunkumm wɔn mu nnipa bɛyɛ aduasa nsia a na wɔredwane afiri akono wɔ nsianeeɛ bi so. Ɛbaa saa no, ehu bɔɔ Israelfoɔ no ma wɔbotoeɛ.
The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.
6 Yosua ne ɔman ntuanofoɔ de abasamutuo tetee wɔn ntadeɛ mu, too mfuturo guu wɔn tirim, bɔɔ wɔn mu ase, wɔ Awurade Adaka no anim kɔsii anwummerɛ.
Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the LORD’s ark until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.
7 Afei, Yosua su frɛɛ Awurade sɛ, “Otumfoɔ Awurade, adɛn na wode yɛn twaa Asubɔnten Yordan a wonim sɛ Amorifoɔ no bɛkunkum yɛn? Sɛ yɛnim a, anka yɛtenaa Asubɔnten Yordan agya hɔ ara.
Joshua said, “Alas, Lord GOD, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!
8 Awurade, seesei a Israelfoɔ adwane afiri wɔn atamfoɔ anim yi, asɛm bɛn na menka?
Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?
9 Na sɛ Kanaanfoɔ ne nnipa a aka a wɔtete asase yi so te saa asɛm yi a, wɔbɛtwa yɛn ho ahyia na wɔatɔre yɛn ase afiri asase yi so. Na afei ɛdeɛn na wobɛyɛ de ahyɛ wo din kɛseɛ a ɛwɔ animuonyam no?”
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”
10 Na Awurade ka kyerɛɛ Yosua sɛ, “Sɔre! Adɛn enti na wode wʼanim abutu hɔ saa?
The LORD said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?
11 Israel ayɛ bɔne. Wɔabu mʼapam no so. Wɔawia nneɛma a mehyɛɛ sɛ wɔnnya mma me no. Na ɛnyɛ sɛ wɔawia nko, na mmom, wɔatwa ho nkontompo de asie wɔn nneɛma mu.
Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.
12 Ɛno enti na Israelfoɔ adi nkoguo na wɔredwane afiri wɔn atamfoɔ anim. Seesei deɛ, wɔayi Israel asi hɔ ama ɔsɛeɛ. Merenka mo ho bio, gye sɛ mosɛe biribiara a ɛwɔ mo nkyɛn a anka ɛsɛ sɛ mosɛe no.
Therefore the children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.
13 “Sɔre! Kɔka kyerɛ nnipa no sɛ, ‘Obiara nkɔdwira ne ho mma ɔkyena, na saa na Awurade, Israel Onyankopɔn seɛ: Ao, Israel, mode nneɛma a anka ɛsɛ sɛ wɔgya ma Awurade no ahinta mo mu. Morentumi nni mo atamfoɔ so da kɔsi sɛ moyi saa nneɛma no firi mo mu.
Get up! Sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for the LORD, the God of Israel, says, “There is a devoted thing among you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”
14 “‘Adekyeɛ mu no, abusuakuo biara bɛba, na Awurade bɛkyerɛ abusuakuo a wɔn ho wɔ asɛm no. Saa abusuakuo no de wɔn mmusuaban no nso bɛba, na Awurade bɛkyerɛ abusuaban a ne ho wɔ asɛm no. Saa abusuaban no nso bɛba, na Awurade bɛkyerɛ efie a ne ho wɔ asɛm no. Awieeɛ no, efie a ne ho wɔ asɛm no mu nnipa bɛba mmaako mmaako.
In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which the LORD selects shall come near by families. The family which the LORD selects shall come near by households. The household which the LORD selects shall come near man by man.
15 Onipa a wawia nneɛma a anka ɛsɛ sɛ wɔsɛe no, wɔbɛhye no ne nʼagyapadeɛ nyinaa, ɛfiri sɛ wabu Awurade apam no so na wayɛ deɛ ɛmfra koraa wɔ Israel.’”
It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the LORD’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”
16 Adeɛ kyee anɔpahema no, Yosua de Israel mmusuakuo no baa Awurade anim, na wɔyii Yuda abusuakuo no.
So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.
17 Afei Yuda mmusuaban baa anim, na wɔyii Serafoɔ. Afei Sera efie biara baa Awurade anim, na wɔyii Simri efie.
He brought near the family of Judah, and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.
18 Na Simri efie baa mmaako mmaako na wɔyii Akan, Karmi ba.
He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.
19 Afei, Yosua ka kyerɛɛ Akan sɛ, “Me ba, fa animuonyam ma Awurade, Israel Onyankopɔn, na ka nokorɛ. Ka wo bɔne ne deɛ wayɛ kyerɛ me. Mfa nsie me.”
Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Do not hide it from me!”
20 Akan buaa sɛ, “Mayɛ bɔne atia Awurade, Israel Onyankopɔn.
Achan answered Joshua, and said, “I have truly sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.
21 Mehunuu atadeɛ ngugusoɔ fɛfɛ bi a wɔkra firii Babilonia, dwetɛ kilogram mmienu ne fa ne sikakɔkɔɔ poma baako a ano si gram ahanum ne aduɔson. Mʼani bereeɛ enti, mefaeɛ. Mede asie fam wɔ me ntomadan mu, na dwetɛ no deɛ, ɛhyɛ fam kyɛn nkaeɛ no.”
When I saw among the plunder a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”
22 Enti, Yosua somaa mmarima bi sɛ wɔnkɔhwehwɛ. Wɔtutuu mmirika kɔɔ ntomadan no mu kɔhunuu awifodeɛ no sɛ wɔde asie wɔ hɔ, sɛdeɛ Akan kaeɛ no ara pɛ, na ɔde dwetɛ no asie nneɛma a aka no ase tɔnn.
So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.
23 Wɔtasee nneɛma no firii ntomadan no mu de brɛɛ Yosua ne Israelfoɔ no nyinaa. Wɔde ne nyinaa guu fam wɔ Awurade anim.
They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before the LORD.
24 Afei, Yosua ne Israelfoɔ no nyinaa faa Serah babarima Akan, dwetɛ no, atadeɛ ngugusoɔ no, sikakɔkɔɔ poma no, ne mmammarima, ne mmammaa, nʼanantwie, ne mfunumu, ne nnwan, ne ntomadan ne nʼagyapadeɛ nyinaa na wɔde no baa Akɔr bɔnhwa mu.
Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.
25 Yosua bisaa Akan sɛ, “Adɛn enti na wode saa ɔhaw yi abrɛ yɛn? Wo nso, Awurade de ɔhaw bɛbrɛ wo.” Na Israelfoɔ nyinaa sii Akan ne nʼabusuafoɔ aboɔ, hyee wɔn amu no.
Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? The LORD will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.
26 Wɔsoaa aboɔ guu Akan funu so hɔree no esie a ɛda so wɔ hɔ bɛsi ɛnnɛ. Enti, na wɔafrɛ saa beaeɛ hɔ Akɔr Bɔnhwa no. Afei, Awurade bo dwoeɛ.
They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. The LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called “The valley of Achor” to this day.
