< Yosua 4 >
1 Ɛberɛ a ɔman no nyinaa twaa Yordan wieeɛ no, Awurade ka kyerɛɛ Yosua sɛ,
And when they had crossed over, the Lord said to Joshua:
2 “Yiyi mmarima dumienu firi ɔmanfoɔ no mu a ɔbaako biara firi abusuakuo no bi mu
“Choose twelve men, one from each tribe,
3 na ka kyerɛ wɔn sɛ, wɔmfa aboɔ dumienu mfiri Yordan mfimfini nifa so wɔ baabi a na asɔfoɔ no gyina hɔ, na wɔnsoa mfa ntwa mmra mmɛgu baabi a mobɛtena anadwo yi.”
and instruct them so that they may take from the midst of the channel of the Jordan, where the feet of the priests stood still, twelve very hard stones, which you shall station in the place of the camp, where you will pitch your tents this night.”
4 Ɛnna Yosua frɛɛ mmarima dumienu a ɔyii wɔn firii Israelfoɔ no mu no a ɔbaako biara firi abusuakuo bi mu no,
And Joshua called twelve men, whom he had chosen from the sons of Israel, one from each tribe,
5 na ɔka kyerɛɛ wɔn sɛ, “Monkɔdi Awurade, mo Onyankopɔn, adaka no anim mfa nkɔ Yordan mfimfini. Ɔbaako biara mfa ɛboɔ nto ne batiri so sɛdeɛ Israelfoɔ mmusuakuo no dodoɔ te,
and he said to them: “Go before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan, and let each one carry from there one stone on your shoulders, according to the number of the sons of Israel,
6 na ɛnyɛ nsɛnkyerɛnneɛ wɔ mo mu. Sɛ daakye bi, mo mma bisa mo sɛ, ‘Saa aboɔ yi ase kyerɛ sɛn’ a,
so that it may be a sign among you. And when your sons will ask you, tomorrow, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’
7 monka nkyerɛ wɔn sɛ, Yordan asutene no twaeɛ wɔ Awurade apam adaka no anim. Ɛberɛ a Awurade apam adaka no twaa Yordan asutene no, asuo no weeɛ. Saa aboɔ yi bɛyɛ nkaedeɛ ama Israelfoɔ daa nyinaa.”
you shall respond to them: ‘The waters of the Jordan failed before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, when the ark crossed over it. For this reason, these stones were placed as a monument for the sons of Israel, even forever.’”
8 Enti, mmarima no yɛɛ sɛdeɛ Yosua kyerɛɛ wɔn no. Wɔfaa aboɔ dumienu firii Asubɔnten Yordan mfimfini a ɛboɔ baako biara gyina hɔ ma abusuakuo baako, sɛdeɛ Awurade hyɛɛ Yosua no. Wɔsoa de kɔɔ baabi a wɔtenaa hɔ anadwo no na wɔsii nkaeɛdum wɔ hɔ.
Therefore, the sons of Israel did as Joshua instructed them, carrying twelve stones from the midst of the channel of the Jordan, just as the Lord had ordered him, according to the number of the sons of Israel, as far as the place where they made camp, and there they stationed them.
9 Yosua nso de aboɔ dumienu sii nkaeɛdum wɔ Yordan mfimfini wɔ baabi a na asɔfoɔ a wɔso apam Adaka no gyina hɔ. Ɛwɔ hɔ bɛsi ɛnnɛ.
Similarly, Joshua positioned another twelve stones in the middle of the channel of the Jordan, where the priests stood who were carrying the ark of the covenant; and they are there, even to the present day.
10 Asɔfoɔ a na wɔso adaka no gyinaa asuo no mfimfini hɔ ara kɔsii sɛ Awurade ahyɛdeɛ a ɔnam Mose so de maa Yosua no, wɔyɛɛ ne nyinaa. Saa ɛberɛ no, nnipa no yɛɛ ntɛm twaa asuo no kɔsii ne konkɔn so.
Now the priests who were carrying the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until everything was accomplished which the Lord had instructed Joshua to speak to the people and which Moses had said to him. And the people hurried, and they passed over.
11 Na ɛberɛ a obiara duruu asuo no fa hɔ no, asɔfoɔ no nso de Awurade adaka no tware kɔɔ ɛfa hɔ bi.
And when they had all crossed, the ark of the Lord also crossed, and the priests advanced before the people.
12 Na akofoɔ a wɔahyɛ wɔn akodeɛ a wɔfiri Ruben abusuakuo mu, Gad abusuakuo mu ne Manase abusuakuo fa mu akofoɔ no dii Israelfoɔ no anim twaa Yordan sɛdeɛ Mose kyerɛɛ wɔn no pɛpɛɛpɛ.
Likewise, the sons of Reuben, and of Gad, and of the one half tribe of Manasseh advanced with weapons before the sons of Israel, just as Moses had instructed them.
13 Saa akofoɔ yi, na wɔn dodoɔ bɛyɛ mpem aduanan a wɔasiesie wɔn ho ama ɔko. Wɔtwa kɔɔ Yeriko asase so wɔ Awurade anim.
And forty thousand fighters, by companies and divisions, advanced through the plains and fields of the city of Jericho.
In that day, the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel, so that they would fear him, just as they had feared Moses while he lived.
15 Na Awurade ka kyerɛɛ Yosua sɛ,
And he said to him,
16 “Hyɛ asɔfoɔ a Awurade apam adaka no so wɔn no sɛ, wɔmfiri subɔnhwa no mu hɔ mmra.”
“Command the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant to ascend from the Jordan.”
And he commanded them, saying, “Ascend from the Jordan.”
18 Na ɛberɛ a asɔfoɔ a wɔso Awurade apam adaka no firii subɔnhwa no mu ara pɛ na Asubɔnten Yordan sane ka sram so tɛntɛntɛn te sɛ kane no.
And when those who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord had ascended, and they began to step on dry soil, the waters returned to their channel, and they flowed as they usually did before.
19 Bosome a ɛdi ɛkan no ɛda ɛtɔ so edu no nnipa no foro firii Yordan kɔbɔɔ atenaeɛ wɔ Gilgal, Yeriko apueeɛ.
Now the people ascended from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they encamped at Gilgal, opposite the eastern portion of the city of Jericho.
20 Gilgal hɔ na Yosua boaa aboɔ dumienu a wɔde firi Asubɔnten Yordan mu baeɛ no ano.
Likewise, the twelve stones that they had taken up from the channel of the Jordan, Joshua stationed at Gilgal.
21 Afei, Yosua ka kyerɛɛ Israelfoɔ no sɛ, “Daakye bi mo mma bɛbisa sɛ, ‘Saa aboɔ yi kyerɛ sɛn?’
And he said to the sons of Israel: “When your sons will question their fathers, tomorrow, and they will say to them, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’
22 Na mo nso moaka akyerɛ wɔn sɛ, ‘Ɛha ne beaeɛ a Israelfoɔ twaa Yordan wɔ asase wesee so no.’
you shall teach them, and you shall say: ‘Israel passed over this Jordan, through the dry channel.’
23 Awurade, mo Onyankopɔn, maa nsuo no wee wɔ mo anim na ɔkɔɔ so ma ɛweeɛ ara kɔsii sɛ mo nyinaa twareeɛ, sɛdeɛ ɔyɛeɛ wɔ Ɛpo Kɔkɔɔ no. Ɔmaa no weeɛ ara kɔsii sɛ yɛn nyinaa twareeɛ.
For the Lord your God dried up its waters in your sight, until you crossed over, just as he had done before, at the Red Sea, which he dried up until we crossed over.
24 Ɔyɛɛ yei sɛdeɛ aman a wɔwɔ ewiase nyinaa bɛhunu Awurade tumi na mo nso moasuro Awurade, mo Onyankopɔn, daa nyinaa.”
So may all the peoples of the earth learn of the very powerful hand of the Lord. So may you also fear the Lord your God for all time.”
