< Hiob 1 >
1 Ɔbarima bi tenaa ase wɔ Us asase so a na ne din de Hiob. Na ne ho nni asɛm na ɔyɛ pɛ; na ɔsuro Onyankopɔn, na ɔtwe ne ho firi bɔne ho.
In the land of Uz lived a man whose name was Job. He was an upright and good man, fearing God and departing from evil.
2 Na ɔwɔ mmammarima baason ne mmammaa baasa,
He had seven sons and three daughters.
3 na ɔwɔ nnwan mpem nson, nyoma mpem mmiɛnsa, anantwie mpamho ahanum ne mfunumu bereɛ aha enum, na ɔwɔ asomfoɔ bebree. Na ɔyɛ onipa kɛseɛ paa wɔ nnipa a wɔwɔ Apueeɛ fam nyinaa no mu.
His substance was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she-asses, and a great number of servants; so that he was the greatest of all the inhabitants of the East.
4 Na ne mmammarima no to ɛpono nnidisoɔ nnidisoɔ wɔ wɔn afie mu, na wɔto nsa frɛ wɔn nnuammaa baasa no ne wɔn bɔ mu didi, nom.
Now it was the custom of his sons to make a feast in their houses, each on his day, and to send and invite their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5 Sɛ apontoɔ nna no twam a, Hiob soma kɔfrɛ wɔn na wɔdwira wɔn ho. Ɔsɔre anɔpahema bɔ ɔhyeɛ afɔdeɛ ma wɔn mu biara, ɛfiri sɛ ɔdwene sɛ, “Ebia na me mma no ayɛ bɔne na wɔadome Onyankopɔn wɔ wɔn akoma mu.” Yei yɛ dwuma a na Hiob di no ɛberɛ-ano-berɛ ano.
And when the days of their feasting had gone round, Job used to send for them and sanctify them, and to rise up early in the morning and offer burnt-offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and have renounced God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
6 Ɛda bi, abɔfoɔ no de wɔn ho bɛkyerɛɛ Awurade, na Satan kaa wɔn ho baeɛ.
Now on a certain day the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah, and Satan also came among them.
7 Awurade bisaa Satan sɛ, “Wofiri he na wobaa ha?” Satan buaa Awurade sɛ, “Mefiri asase so akyinkyinakyinkyini ne emu akɔneabadie mu.”
And Jehovah said to Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, From wandering over the earth, and walking up and down in it.
8 Na Awurade bisaa Satan sɛ, “Wadwene me ɔsomfoɔ Hiob ho anaa? Obiara nte sɛ ɔno wɔ asase so, ne ho nni asɛm na ɔtene, ɔyɛ onipa a ɔsuro Onyankopɔn na ɔkyiri bɔne.”
And Jehovah said to Satan, Hast thou observed my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, an upright and good man, fearing God and departing from evil?
9 Satan buaa Awurade sɛ, “Hiob suro Onyankopɔn kwa anaa?
Then Satan answered Jehovah, Is it for nought that Job feareth God?
10 Wonnyee ban mfaa ɔno, ne fie ne biribiara a ɔwɔ ho anaa? Woahyira ne nsa ano adwuma so, enti ne nnwan ne nʼanantwie ase atrɛ asase no so.
Hast thou not placed a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all his possessions? Thou hast prospered the work of his hands, and his herds are greatly increased in the land.
11 Na wo deɛ, tene wo nsa na sɛe deɛ ɔwɔ nyinaa, na ɔbɛgyina wʼanim na wadome wo.”
But only put forth thy hand, and touch whatever he possesseth, and to thy face will he renounce thee.
12 Awurade ka kyerɛɛ Satan sɛ, “Ɛyɛ, deɛ ɔwɔ nyinaa wɔ wo nsam, nanso ɔno ankasa deɛ, mfa wo nsateaa nka no.” Na Satan firii Awurade anim kɔeɛ.
And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; but upon him lay not thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah.
13 Ɛda bi a Hiob mmammarima ne ne mmammaa redidi na wɔrenom bobesa wɔ wɔn nuabarima panin fie no,
Now on a certain day the sons and daughters of Job were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,
14 ɔbɔfoɔ bi baa Hiob hɔ, bɛkaa sɛ, “Anantwie no refɛntɛm na mfunumu no redidi wɔ wɔn nkyɛn no,
when a messenger came to Job, and said, The oxen were ploughing, and the asses feeding beside them,
15 Sebafoɔ bɛto hyɛɛ yɛn so, sesaa wɔn kɔɔeɛ. Wɔde afena kunkumm apaafoɔ no, na me nko ara na medwaneeɛ a merebɛbɔ wo saa amaneɛ yi.”
and the Sabaeans fell upon them, and took them away; the servants also they slew with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
16 Ɛberɛ a ɔgu so rekasa no, ɔbɔfoɔ foforɔ bi ba bɛkaa sɛ, “Onyankopɔn ogya firi soro abɛhye wo nnwan ne wo nnwanhwɛfoɔ no nyinaa, na me nko ara na medwaneeɛ a merebɛbɔ wo amaneɛ yi.”
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God hath fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
17 Ɔgu so rekasa no, ɔbɔfoɔ foforɔ bi bɛkaa sɛ, “Kaldeafoɔ de akorɔmfoɔ akuo mmiɛnsa baa wo nyoma so bɛsoaa wɔn kɔeɛ. Wɔde afena kunkumm asomfoɔ no na me nko ara na medwaneeɛ a merebɛbɔ wo amaneɛ yi.”
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldaeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and carried them away; the servants also they slew with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
18 Ɛberɛ a ɔgu so rekasa no, ɔbɔfoɔ foforɔ bi ba bɛkaa sɛ, “Na wo mmammarima ne wo mmammaa redidi na wɔrenom bobesa wɔ wɔn nuabarima panin fie,
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house;
19 na prɛko pɛ, ahum bi bɔ firii ɛserɛ no so bɛdwiraa efie no ntwea ɛnan no. Efie no dwiri guu wɔn so na akunkum wɔn, na me nko ara na medwaneeɛ a merebɛbɔ wo amaneɛ yi.”
and, lo! there came a great wind from the desert, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
20 Yei maa Hiob sɔre gyinaa hɔ, sunsuanee nʼatadeɛ mu na ɔyii ne tirinwi. Afei ɔtenaa fam sɔree Awurade
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped;
21 kaa sɛ, “Adagya na mede mefiri me maame yam baeɛ, na adagya na mede bɛsane akɔ. Awurade de maeɛ, na Awurade afa; nhyira nka Awurade din!”
and said, Naked came I forth from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither. Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah!
22 Yei nyinaa mu no, Hiob anyɛ bɔne sɛ ɔbɛbɔ Onyankopɔn soboɔ.
In all this Job sinned not, nor uttered vain words against God.
