< 1 Samuel 19 >

1 Saulo hyɛɛ nʼasomfoɔ ne ne babarima Yonatan sɛ wɔnkum Dawid. Nanso, ɛsiane sɛ na Yonatan adamfo brɛboɔ ne Dawid enti,
And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, to kill David.
2 Yonatan kaa adwene a nʼagya ayɛ afa ne ho no kyerɛɛ no tuu no fo sɛ, “Ɔkyena anɔpa, pɛ wiram baabi kɔbɔ wo ho adwaa, ɛfiri sɛ, mʼagya repɛ wo akum wo.
And Jonathan, Saul's son, loved David much: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul seeks to kill you: take heed to yourself therefore to-morrow morning, and hide yourself, and dwell in secret.
3 Mɛka akyerɛ mʼagya, na ɔne me aba hɔ na mɛka wo ho asɛm nyinaa akyerɛ no. Na biribiara a mɛhunu wɔ hɔ no nso, mɛbɔ wo amaneɛ.”
And I will go forth, and stand near my father in the field where you shall be, and I will speak concerning you to my father; and I will see what his answer may be, and I will tell you.
4 Adeɛ kyee anɔpa no, Yonatan ne nʼagya dii nkɔmmɔ faa Dawid ho. Yonatan kaa ne ho nsɛm pa pii. Yonatan srɛɛ nʼagya sɛ, “Mesrɛ wo, nyɛ bɔne biara ntia Dawid. Ɔnyɛɛ biribiara a ɛbɛha wo. Daa, ɔnam ɛkwan biara a ɔbɛtumi so boa wo.
And Jonathan spoke favorably concerning David to Saul his father, and said to him, Let not the king sin against your servant David, for he has not sinned against you, and his deeds [are] very good.
5 Wo werɛ afiri ɛberɛ a ɔde ne nkwa too ne nsam, kɔkumm Filistini ɔbrane, na ɛnam so maa Awurade de nkonimdie kɛseɛ brɛɛ Israel no? Saa ɛberɛ no, akyinnyeɛ biara nni ho sɛ, wʼani gyeeɛ. Adɛn enti na ɛsɛ sɛ wokum onipa a ne ho nni asɛm sɛ Dawid? Nkyerɛaseɛ pa biara nni so koraa.”
And he put his life in his hand, and struck the Philistine, and the Lord wrought a great deliverance; and all Israel saw, and rejoined: why then do you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?
6 Enti, Saulo tiee Yonatan, na ɔkaa ho ntam dii nse sɛ, “Sɛ Awurade te ase yi, wɔrenkum Dawid.”
And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan; and Saul swore, saying, [As] the Lord lives, he shall not die.
7 Akyire yi, Yonatan frɛɛ Dawid kaa asɛm a asi no kyerɛɛ no. Enti, ɔfaa Dawid de no kɔhunuu Saulo, na biribiara totɔɔ yie, sɛdeɛ kane no na ɛteɛ no ara pɛ.
And Jonathan called David, and told him all these words; and Jonathan brought David in to Saul, and he was before him as in former times.
8 Ankyɛre biara na ɔko bi siiɛ, maa Dawid dii nʼakodɔm anim kɔko tiaa Filistifoɔ. Ɔde anibereɛ tuaa wɔn, maa wɔn nyinaa dwaneeɛ.
And there was again war against Saul; and David did valiantly, and fought against the Philistines, and struck them with a very great slaughter, and they fled from before him.
9 Nanso, ɛda bi Saulo te fie ara na honhommɔne a ɛfiri Awurade bɛhyɛɛ ne mu prɛko pɛ bio. Ɛberɛ a Dawid rebɔ ne sankuo ama ɔhene no,
And an evil spirit from God was upon Saul, and he was resting in his house, and a spear [was] in his hand, and David was playing on the harp with his hands.
10 Saulo too ne pea kyerɛɛ Dawid so, pɛɛ sɛ ɔkum no. Nanso, Dawid twee ne ho, totɔɔ esum mu dwaneeɛ maa pea no kaa ɔfasuo no mu.
And Saul sought to strike David with the spear; and David withdrew [suddenly] from the presence of Saul; and he drove the spear into the wall; and David retreated and escaped.
11 Saulo somaa mmarima kɔɔ Dawid fie kɔwɛn hɔ sɛ, ɔpue anɔpa a wɔnkum no. Nanso, Dawid yere Mikal bɔɔ no kɔkɔ sɛ, “Sɛ woannwane ampɛ wo nkwa anadwo yi a, ɔkyena, wɔbɛkum wo.”
And it came to pass in that night, that Saul sent messengers to the house of David to watch him, in order to kill him in the morning; and Melchol David's wife told him, saying, Unless you save your life this night, to-morrow you shall be slain.
12 Enti, Mikal de Dawid faa mpomma mu ma ɔdwaneeɛ.
So Melchol lets David down by the window, and he departed, and fled, and escaped.
13 Na Mikal faa ohoni bi de no too mpa so de atadeɛ kataa ho, na ne ti hɔ no nso, ɔde abirekyie ho nwi kataa so.
And Melchol took images, and laid them on the bed, and she put the liver of a goat by his head, and covered them with clothes.
14 Ɛberɛ a Saulo somaa mmarima sɛ wɔnkɔkyere Dawid no, Mikal ka kyerɛɛ wɔn sɛ, “Ɔyare a ɔntumi nsɔre mfiri mpa so.”
And Saul sent messengers to take David; and they say that he is sick.
15 Saulo sane somaa mmarima no bio sɛ, “Monkɔfa no mfiri ne mpa so mmra, sɛdeɛ mɛtumi akum no.”
And he sends to David, saying, Bring him to me on the bed, that I may kill him.
16 Nanso, mmarima no wuraa ɛdan no mu no, na ohoni na ɔda mpa no so a abirekyie ho nwi na ɛkata so.
And the messengers come, and, behold, the images [were] on the bed, and the goat's liver at his head.
17 Saulo bisaa Mikal sɛ, “Adɛn enti na woadaadaa me, ama me ɔtamfoɔ adwane?” Mikal buaa no sɛ, “Na ɛsɛ sɛ meyɛ saa ɛfiri sɛ ɔka kyerɛɛ me sɛ, ‘Mammoa no a, ɔbɛkum me.’”
And Saul said to Melchol, Why have you thus deceived me, and suffered my enemy to depart, and he has escaped? and Melchol said to Saul, He said, let me go, and if not, I will kill you.
18 Ɛberɛ a Dawid dwaneeɛ no, ɔkɔɔ Samuel nkyɛn wɔ Rama kɔkaa deɛ Saulo ayɛ noɔ no nyinaa kyerɛɛ no. Enti, Samuel de Dawid kɔtenaa Naiot.
So David fled, and escaped, and comes to Samuel to Armathaim, and tells him all that Saul had done to him: and Samuel and David went, and lived in Navath in Rama.
19 Ɛberɛ a Saulo tee sɛ Dawid te Naiot a ɛwɔ Rama no,
And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David [is] in Navath in Rama.
20 ɔsomaa akodɔm sɛ wɔnkɔkye no mmra. Nanso, wɔduruiɛ a wɔhunuu Samuel ne adiyifoɔ bi sɛ wɔrehyɛ nkɔm no, Onyankopɔn honhom baa Saulo mmarima no so, maa wɔn nso hyɛɛ nkɔm.
And Saul sent messengers to take David, and they saw the assembly of the prophets, and Samuel stood [as] appointed over them; and the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they prophesy.
21 Saulo tee asɛm a aba no, ɔsane somaa akodɔm foforɔ, nanso wɔn nso kɔhyɛɛ nkɔm! Asɛm korɔ no ara sii ne mprɛnsa so.
And it was told Saul, and he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied: and Saul sent again a third set of messengers, and they also prophesied.
22 Akyire no koraa, Saulo no ankasa kɔɔ Rama, kɔduruu abura kɛseɛ bi a ɛwɔ Seku ho. Ɔbisaa sɛ, “Samuel ne Dawid wɔ he?” Obi ka kyerɛɛ no sɛ, “Wɔn baanu wɔ Naiot a ɛwɔ Rama hɔ.”
And Saul was very angry, and went himself also to Armathaim, and he comes as far as the well of the threshing floor that is in Sephi; and he asked and said, Where [are] Samuel and David? And they said, Behold, in Navath in Rama.
23 Na ɔrekɔ Naiot no, ɛkwan no so na Onyankopɔn honhom baa Saulo so, na ɔno nso hyɛɛ aseɛ hyɛɛ nkɔm.
And he went thence to Navath in Rama: and there came the Spirit of God upon him also, and he went on prophesying till he came to Navath in Rama.
24 Ɔsunsuanee nʼatadeɛ mu, de ne ho too fam, daa hɔ ɛda mu ne anadwo mu nyinaa, hyɛɛ nkɔm wɔ Samuel anim. Nnipa a wɔrehwɛ no no teateaam sɛ, “Asɛm ni? Enti, daa yi Saulo nso yɛ odiyifoɔ?”
And he took off his clothes, and prophesied before them; and lay down naked all that day and all that night: therefore they said, [Is] Saul also among the prophets?
