1 Asɛm a ɛfa nnuane a wɔde ma ahoni ho nso nie: Ɛyɛ nokorɛ pefee sɛ, “Yɛn nyinaa wɔ nimdeɛ.” Nanso, saa nimdeɛ no ma onipa yɛ ahantan; ɔdɔ deɛ, ɛma nkɔsoɔ.
NOW as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 Onipa a ɔgye ne ho di sɛ ɔnim biribi no nnim sɛdeɛ anka ɛsɛ sɛ ɔhunu.
And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 Nanso, onipa a ɔdɔ Onyankopɔn no, Onyankopɔn nim no.
But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4 Enti, nnuane a wɔde ma ahoni a wɔdi no, yɛnim sɛ ohoni wɔ hɔ ma biribi a ɛnte ase. Yɛnim sɛ Onyankopɔn baako pɛ na ɔwɔ hɔ.
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5 Nneɛma bebree wɔ soro ne asase so a yɛfrɛ wɔn anyame ne awuranom, nanso wɔn mu biara nyɛ anyame anaasɛ awuranom.
For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many, )
6 Yɛwɔ Onyame baako pɛ a ɔyɛ Agya. Ɔno na ɔbɔɔ adeɛ nyinaa, na yɛte ase ma no. Yesu Kristo ne yɛn Awurade a Agya no nam ne so yɛɛ adeɛ nyinaa, na ɔmaa yɛn nkwa.
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7 Nanso, ɛnyɛ obiara na ɔnim saa nokwasɛm yi. Nnipa bi de wɔn ho ama ahoni no ara kɔsi sɛ, sɛ wɔdi saa nnuane no a, wɔnim pefee sɛ ohoni aduane na wɔredi. Esiane wɔn ahonim a ɛyɛ mmerɛ enti, wɔgye di nso sɛ aduane no gu wɔn ho fi.
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8 Ɛnyɛ aduane a yɛdie no na ɛtwe yɛn bɛn Onyankopɔn. Sɛ yɛanni saa aduane no a, yɛntɔ sin, ɛnna sɛ yɛdi nso a, yɛn mmoro so.
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9 Monhwɛ yie na moamma mo ahofadie no antwetwe wɔn a wɔyɛ mmerɛ wɔ gyidie mu no ankɔ bɔne mu.
But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10 Sɛ ɛba sɛ obi a nʼahonim yɛ mmerɛ wɔ saa asɛm yi mu hunu sɛ wo a wowɔ “nimdeɛ” redidi wɔ ohoni dan mu a, ɛrenhyɛ no nkuran mma ɔno nso nkɔdi aduane a wɔde ama ahoni no bi anaa?
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11 Enti, saa onipa a ɔyɛ mmerɛ yi a ɔyɛ wo nua a Kristo wu maa no yi, ɛsiane wo “nimdeɛ” enti ɔbɛyera!
And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 Na ɛnam saa ɛkwan yi so bɛma woayɛ bɔne atia wo nuanom. Sɛ ɛba saa a, woyɛ bɔne tia Kristo nso, ɛfiri sɛ wonam wɔn adwenem mmerɛ so adaadaa wɔn.
But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13 Enti, sɛ aduane ma me nua yɛ bɔne a, merenwe ɛnam bio sɛdeɛ ɛbɛyɛ a ɛremma me nua nkɔ bɔne mu. (aiōn g165)
Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. (aiōn g165)
