< Mmebusɛm 10 >
Solomon's proverbs. A wise son makes his father happy, but a stupid son only brings his mother grief.
2 Ɔkwan bɔne so ahonya nni bo, nanso trenee gye onipa fi owu mu.
Wealth gained through evil does you no good; but living right saves you from death.
3 Awurade remma ɔkɔm nne ɔtreneeni na omumɔyɛfo de, ɔka nʼadepa gu.
The Lord doesn't let good people go hungry, but he stops the wicked from getting what they want.
4 Nsa a ɛnyɛ adwuma ma onipa di hia, nanso nsiyɛfo nsa de ahonya ba.
Lazy hands make you poor, but hard-working hands make you rich.
5 Nea ɔboaboa nnɔbae ano wɔ ahuhurubere no yɛ ɔba nyansafo na nea ɔda wɔ twabere mu no yɛ ɔba nimguaseni.
A son who gathers crops during the summer is sensible, but the one who sleeps during harvest brings disgrace.
Those who are good are blessed, but what the wicked say hides their violent nature.
The good are remembered as a blessing, but the reputation of the wicked will rot.
8 Koma mu nyansafo tie ɔhyɛ nsɛm, na ɔkwasea kasafo hwe ase.
Those who think wisely pay attention to instruction, but a stupid chatterbox ends up in disaster.
9 Ɔnokwafo nantew dwoodwoo, na nea ɔfa akwan kɔntɔnkye so no ho bɛda adi.
Honest people will live in safety, but those who behave deceitfully will be caught out.
People who wink slyly cause trouble, but someone who gives a strong rebuke brings peace.
11 Ɔtreneeni anom yɛ nkwa asuti, na akakabensɛm ayɛ omumɔyɛfo anom ma.
What good people say is a spring that gives life, but what the wicked say hides their violent nature.
12 Ɔtan kanyan mpaapaemu, nanso ɔdɔ kata mfomso nyinaa so.
Hatred causes conflict, but love covers all wrongs.
13 Wohu nyansa wɔ nhumufo anom, na abaa fata nea onni adwene akyi.
Wisdom comes from people with good judgment, but stupid people are punished with a rod.
14 Anyansafo kora nimdeɛ, nanso ɔkwasea ano frɛfrɛ ɔsɛe.
Wise people accumulate knowledge, but the chattering of stupid people is a prelude to disaster.
15 Adefo ahonya yɛ wɔn kuropɔn a wɔabɔ ho ban, nanso ahiafo hia yɛ wɔn asehwe.
The wealth of the rich provides them protection, while the poverty of the poor ruins them.
16 Atreneefo akatua de nkwa brɛ wɔn, na nea amumɔyɛfo nya no de asotwe brɛ wɔn.
If you do right you're rewarded with life, but if you're wicked all you gain is sin.
17 Nea otie ntetew pa no kyerɛ nkwa kwan, na nea ɔpo nteɛso no di afoforo anim yera kwan.
If you accept instruction, you're on the path to life, but if you reject correction you'll go astray.
18 Nea ɔkata nitan so no yɛ ɔtorofo, na nea odi nseku no yɛ ɔkwasea.
Anyone who hides their hatred is lying, and anyone who spreads slander is stupid.
19 Mfomso mpa ɔkasa bebree mu, na nea ɔkora ne tɛkrɛma no yɛ onyansafo.
If you talk too much, you'll say something wrong. Be wise and take care what you say.
20 Ɔtreneeni tɛkrɛma yɛ dwetɛ ankasa nanso omumɔyɛfo koma nni bo.
What good people say is like the best silver, but the mind of the wicked isn't worth much.
Advice from good people helps feed many others, but stupid people die because they have no sense.
The Lord's blessing makes you rich, and he doesn't add any sadness to accompany it.
23 Bɔneyɛ yɛ anigyede ma ɔkwasea, nanso nea ɔwɔ nimdeɛ anigye wɔ nyansa mu.
Stupid people think it's fun to do wrong, but someone who has wisdom understands what's right.
24 Nea amumɔyɛfo suro no bɛba wɔn so; na nea atreneefo pɛ no, wɔde bɛma wɔn.
What the wicked fear will happen to them, while what good people hope for will be granted.
25 Sɛ ahum no betwa mu a, amumɔyɛfo yera, nanso atreneefo gyina hɔ pintinn afebɔɔ.
When the storm hits, the wicked are no more, but the good are safe and secure forever.
26 Sɛnea nsa keka ɛse, na wusiw kɔ aniwa no, saa ara na ɔkwadwofo yɛ ma wɔn a wɔsoma no.
In the same way vinegar irritates the teeth and smoke irritates the eyes, lazy people irritate their employers.
27 Awurade suro ma nkwa tenten, nanso wotwa amumɔyɛfo nkwa so.
Honoring the Lord makes your life longer, but the years the wicked live will be cut short.
28 Atreneefo anidaso de ahotɔ ba, nanso amumɔyɛfo anidaso nkosi hwee.
Good people look forward to happiness, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
29 Awurade kwan yɛ guankɔbea ma ɔtreneeni, nanso ɛyɛ ɔsɛe ma wɔn a wɔyɛ bɔne.
The way of the Lord protects those who do right, but he destroys those who do evil.
30 Wɔrentɔre atreneefo ase da, nanso amumɔyɛfo renka asase no so.
The good will never be removed from the land, but the wicked will not remain there.
31 Nyansa fi ɔtreneeni anom ba nanso tɛkrɛma a ɛdaadaa no, wobetwa akyene.
What good people say produces wisdom, but liars will have their tongues cut out.
32 Ɔtreneeni ano nim ade a ɛfata na omumɔyɛfo ano nim nea ɛyɛ nnaadaasɛm nko ara.
Good people know the right thing to say, but the wicked always lie.
