< Yeremia 38 >
1 Matan babarima Sefatia, Pashur babarima Gedalia, Selemia babarima Yukal ne Malkia babarima Pashur tee nsɛm a na Yeremia reka akyerɛ nnipa no nyinaa se,
Shephatiah the son of Mattan, Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying,
2 “Sɛɛ na Awurade se: Obiara a ɔbɛtena kuropɔn yi mu no bewu wɔ afoa, ɔkɔm anaa ɔyaredɔm ano, nanso obiara a ɔbɛkɔ Babiloniafo afa no benya nkwa. Obenya ne ti adidi mu, ɔbɛtena nkwa mu.
“The LORD says, ‘He who remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but he who goes out to the Kasdim will live. He will escape with his life and he will live.’
The LORD says, ‘This city will surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he will take it.’”
4 Ɛno nti adwumayɛfo no ka kyerɛɛ ɔhene no se, “Ɛsɛ sɛ wokum saa ɔbarima yi. Ɔde nsɛm a ɔreka no bu asraafo a wɔaka wɔ kuropɔn yi mu ne nnipa no nyinaa aba mu. Saa ɔbarima yi nhwehwɛ saa nnipa yi yiyedi na mmom wɔn sɛe.”
Then the princes said to the king, “Please let this man be put to death, because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them; for this man doesn’t seek the welfare of this people, but harm.”
5 Ɔhene Sedekia buae se, “Ɔwɔ mo nsam, ɔhene rentumi nyɛ biribiara ntia mo.”
Zedekiah the king said, “Behold, he is in your hand; for the king can’t do anything to oppose you.”
Then they took Jeremiah and threw him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king’s son, that was in the court of the guard. They let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.
7 Na Ebed-Melek Kusni odwumayɛni a ɔwɔ ahemfi hɔ tee sɛ wɔde Yeremia akɔto abura no mu. Bere a ɔhene no te Benyamin Pon hɔ no,
Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king was then sitting in Benjamin’s gate),
8 Ebed-Melek fii ahemfi hɔ kɔka kyerɛɛ no se,
Ebedmelech went out of the king’s house, and spoke to the king, saying,
9 “Ɔdɛɛfo, nea saa nnipa yi ayɛ nyinaa yɛ amumɔyɛsɛm a etia odiyifo Yeremia. Wɔatow no akyene abura mu, baabi a ɔkɔm bekum no wɔ bere a brodo asa wɔ kuropɔn yi mu.”
“My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon. He is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.”
Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.”
11 Ɛno nti Ebed-Melek faa mmarima no kaa ne ho, na wɔkɔɔ ɔdan bi a ɛwɔ adekorabea ase, wɔ ahemfi hɔ. Ɔkɔsesaw ntamagow ne ntade dedaw de kyekyeree ntampehama ho, gyaa mu maa Yeremia wɔ abura no mu.
So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
12 Na Kusni, Ebed-Melek ka kyerɛɛ Yeremia se, “Fa ntamagow ne ntade dedaw no hyehyɛ wo mmotuam, na ntampehama no ammia wo.” Na Yeremia yɛɛ saa,
Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, “Now put these rags and worn-out garments under your armpits under the cords.” Jeremiah did so.
13 Wɔde ntampehama no twetwee no yii no fii abura no mu. Na Yeremia tenaa awɛmfo adiwo hɔ.
So they lifted Jeremiah up with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
14 Na Ɔhene Sedekia soma ma wɔkɔfaa odiyifo Yeremia baa Awurade asɔredan ano kwan a ɛto so abiɛsa hɔ. Ɔhene ka kyerɛɛ Yeremia se, “Merebebisa wo asɛm bi, mfa biribiara nsie me.”
Then Zedekiah the king sent and took Jeremiah the prophet to himself into the third entry that is in the LORD’s house. Then the king said to Jeremiah, “I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me.”
15 Yeremia ka kyerɛɛ Sedekia se, “Sɛ mema wo mmuae a, worenkum me ana? Mpo sɛ mitu wo fo a, worentie me.”
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? If I give you counsel, you will not listen to me.”
16 Nanso ɔhene Sedekia kaa saa ntam yi kokoa mu kyerɛɛ Yeremia se, “Sɛ Awurade a ɔma yɛn nkwa no te ase yi, merenkum wo na meremfa wo nhyɛ wɔn a wɔpɛ sɛ wokum wo no nsa.”
So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, “As the LORD lives, who made our souls, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life.”
17 Afei Yeremia ka kyerɛɛ Sedekia se, “Sɛɛ na Asafo Awurade Nyankopɔn, Israel Nyankopɔn, no se: ‘Sɛ wode wo ho ma Babiloniahene adwumayɛfo a, wɔrenkum wo na wɔrenhyew kuropɔn yi, wo ne wʼabusuafo bɛtena nkwa mu.
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “The LORD, the God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you will go out to the king of Babylon’s princes, then your soul will live, and this city will not be burnt with fire. You will live, along with your house.
But if you will not go out to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city will be given into the hand of the Kasdim, and they will burn it with fire, and you won’t escape out of their hand.’”
19 Ɔhene Sedekia ka kyerɛɛ Yeremia se, “Misuro Yudafo a wɔkɔ Babiloniafo afa no, efisɛ ebia Babiloniafo no de me bɛma wɔn na wɔayɛ me ayayade.”
Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the Jews who have defected to the Kasdim, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.”
20 Yeremia buae se, “Wɔremfa wo mma wɔn. Tie Awurade asɛm na yɛ nea meka kyerɛ wo. Ɛno na ɛbɛma asi wo yiye na woanya nkwa.
But Jeremiah said, “They won’t deliver you. Obey, I beg you, the LORD’s voice, in that which I speak to you; so it will be well with you, and your soul will live.
21 Nanso sɛ woamfa wo ho amma Babiloniafo no de a, nea Awurade ayi akyerɛ me ni:
But if you refuse to go out, this is the word that the LORD has shown me:
22 Mmea a wɔaka wɔ Yudahene ahemfi hɔ nyinaa no, wɔde wɔn befi adi abrɛ Babiloniahene adwumayɛfo no. Saa mmea no bɛka akyerɛ wo se, “‘Wɔdaadaa wo na wodii wo so wo nnamfonom a wugye wɔn di no. Wʼanan amem wɔ dontori mu; wo nnamfonom agyaw wo hɔ kɔ.’
‘Behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah’s house will be brought out to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women will say, “Your familiar friends have turned on you, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away from you.”
23 “Wɔde wo yerenom nyinaa ne wo mma bɛbrɛ Babiloniafo no. Wo de, worentumi nguan mfi wɔn nsam, na mmom Babiloniahene bɛkyere wo, na wɔbɛhyew saa kuropɔn yi.”
They will bring out all your wives and your children to the Kasdim. You won’t escape out of their hand, but will be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon. You will cause this city to be burnt with fire.’”
24 Na Sedekia ka kyerɛɛ Yeremia se, “Mma obiara nte saa nkɔmmɔdi yi, anyɛ saa a, wubewu.
Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “Let no man know of these words, and you won’t die.
25 Sɛ adwumayɛfo no te sɛ me ne wo kasae, na wobebisa wo se, ‘Ma yɛnte nea woka kyerɛɛ ɔhene ne nea ɔhene nso ka kyerɛɛ wo; mfa nsie yɛn anyɛ saa a yebekum wo a,’
But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and tell you, ‘Declare to us now what you have said to the king; don’t hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also tell us what the king said to you;’
26 ɛno de ka kyerɛ wɔn se, ‘Na meresrɛ ɔhene sɛ ɔmmfa me nsan nkɔ Yonatan fi mma me nkowu wɔ hɔ.’”
then you shall tell them, ‘I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there.’”
27 Adwumayɛfo no nyinaa baa Yeremia hɔ bebisaa no, na ɔkaa nea ɔhene hyɛɛ no se ɔnka no nyinaa. Enti wɔanka hwee ankyerɛ no bio, efisɛ obiara ante ɔne ɔhene nkɔmmɔtwetwe no.
Then all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they stopped speaking with him, for the matter was not perceived.
So Jeremiah stayed in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.
