1 Na Onyankopɔn ka kyerɛɛ Yakob se, “Kɔ Bet-El kɔtena hɔ. Sɛ wudu hɔ a, si afɔremuka ma me. Me na miyii me ho adi kyerɛɛ wo bere a na woreguan afi wo nua Esau nkyɛn no.”
God said to Jacob [Supplanter], “Arise, go up to Beth-el [House of God], and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau [Hairy] your brother.”
2 Enti Yakob ka kyerɛɛ ne fifo ne wɔn a wɔka ne ho nyinaa se, “Monsɛe mo anyame a mode wɔn fi amannɔne bae no nyinaa. Munnwira mo ho, na monsesa mo ntade nso.”
Then Jacob [Supplanter] said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign deities that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments.
3 Ɔtoaa so se, “Yɛrebetu kwan akɔ Bet-El. Na sɛ yedu hɔ a, yebesi afɔremuka ama Onyankopɔn a otiee me mpaebɔ wɔ mʼamanehunu mu, na ɔkaa me ho wɔ mʼakwantu mu no.”
Let us arise, and go up to Beth-el [House of God]. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me on the way which I went.”

They gave to Jacob [Supplanter] all the foreign deities which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob [Supplanter] hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
5 Na wosii mu. Wɔrekɔ no, Onyankopɔn bɔɔ nkurow a wɔfaa so no nyinaa mu nnipa no hu a ɛno nti obiara antumi antaa wɔn.
They traveled, and a terror of God was on the cities that were around them, and they didn’t pursue the sons of Jacob [Supplanter].
6 Yakob ne ne nkurɔfo a wɔka ne ho no beduu Lus a ɛno ara ne Bet-El a ɛwɔ Kanaan asase so no.
So Jacob [Supplanter] came to Luz (that is, Beth-el [House of God]), which is in the land of Canaan [Humbled], he and all the people who were with him.
7 Osii afɔremuka wɔ hɔ, too hɔ din El-Bet-El, efisɛ ɛhɔ na bere a ɔreguan afi ne nua Esau nkyɛn no, Onyankopɔn yii ne ho adi kyerɛɛ no.
He built an altar there, and called the place El Beit-El [God of House of God]; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
8 Eyi akyi no, Debora a ɔyɛ Rebeka bagyigyefo no wu ma wosiee no wɔ odum bi a ɛwɔ Bet-El bon mu no ase. Efi saa bere no, wɔtoo beae hɔ din Alon-Bakut, a ne nkyerɛase ne Agyaadwotwa Dum.
Deborah, Rebekah [Securely bound]’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Beth-el [House of God] under the oak; and its name was called Allon Bacuth.
9 Yakob fi Paddan-Aram beduu Bet-El no, Onyankopɔn san yii ne ho adi kyerɛɛ no, hyiraa no.
God appeared to Jacob [Supplanter] again, when he came from Paddan Aram [Elevated], and blessed him.
10 Onyankopɔn ka kyerɛɛ no se, “Ɛwɔ mu sɛ wɔfrɛ wo Yakob de, nanso efi nnɛ, wɔremfrɛ wo Yakob bio, na mmom, wɔbɛfrɛ wo Israel a ne nkyerɛase ne Onipa a ɔne Onyankopɔn adi asi.” Enti Onyankopɔn too ne din se Israel.
God said to him, “Your name is Jacob [Supplanter]. Your name shall not be Jacob [Supplanter] any more, but your name will be Israel [Wrestles with God / God prevails].” He named him Israel [God prevails].
11 Onyankopɔn ka kyerɛɛ Yakob se, “Mene Onyankopɔn tumfo no. Wʼase nnɔ, na wʼase mfɛe. Ɔman ne aman asafo befi wo mu aba. Saa ara na ahemfo nso befi wo mu aba.
God said to him, “I am El Shaddai [God Almighty]. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your body.
12 Mede asase a mede maa Abraham ne Isak no bɛma wo. Yiw, mede saa asase koro yi ara bɛma wʼasefo.”
The land which I gave to Abraham [Father of a multitude] and Isaac [Laughter], I will give it to you, and to your offspring after you will I give the land.”
13 Na Onyankopɔn fii faako a na ɔne Yakob rekasa hɔ no kɔɔ ɔsoro.
God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.
14 Yakob sii ɔbodum wɔ hɔ, hwiee afɔresa guu so, de bɔɔ Onyankopɔn afɔre. Ɔsan de afɔrengo sraa odum no ho.
Jacob [Supplanter] set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.
15 Yakob too beae a Onyankopɔn ne no kasae no Bet-El, a ne nkyerɛase ne Onyankopɔn fi.
Jacob [Supplanter] called the name of the place where God spoke with him “Beth-el [House of God]”.
16 Yakob ne ne fifo sii mu fii Bet-El, de wɔn ani kyerɛɛ Efrat. Wɔrekɔ no, awo kaa Rahel wɔ akwantemfi.
They traveled from Beth-el [House of God]. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel [Ewe sheep] travailed. She had hard labor.
17 Bere a ɔreko awo no, ɔbea ɔwogyefo no ka kyerɛɛ no se, “Nsuro na worebɛwo ɔbabarima bio.”
When she was in hard labor, the midwife said to her, “Don’t be afraid, for now you will have another son.”
18 Nanso Rahel koo awo tɔe. Na bere a ne kra refi ne mu na ɔreyɛ awu no, ɔtoo ne babarima a wawo no no din Ben-Oni, a ne nkyerɛase ne Mʼawerɛhow Mu Ba. “Nanso nʼagya san too no din Benyamin a, ne nkyerɛase ne Me dɔba.”
As her soul was departing (for she died), she named him Benoni, but his father named him Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south].
19 Rahel wu ma wosiee no Efrat a ɛno ara ne Betlehem no akwantemfi.
Rachel [Ewe sheep] died, and was buried on the way to Ephrath (also called Bethlehem [House of Bread]).
20 Yakob yɛɛ nkaedum sii Rahel da no so a ɛda so wɔ hɔ besi nnɛ.
Jacob [Supplanter] set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel [Ewe sheep]’s grave to this day.
21 Israel toaa nʼakwantu no so, kosii ne ntamadan wɔ Edir abantenten no akyi nohɔ baabi.
Israel [God prevails] traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
22 Bere a Israel te saa asase no so no, ɔtee sɛ ne ba panyin Ruben ne Bilha a ɔyɛ nʼagya afenaa a waware no no akɔda. Na Yakob wɔ mmabarima dumien:
While Israel [God prevails] lived in that land, Reuben [See, a son!] went and lay with Bilhah [Bashful], his father’s concubine, and Israel [God prevails] sh'ma ·heard obeyed· of it. Now the sons of Jacob [Supplanter] were twelve.
23 Lea mma na wɔn din didi so yi: Ruben a ɔno ne Israel abakan, Simeon, Lewi, Yuda, Isakar ne Sebulon.
The sons of Leah [Weary]: Reuben [See, a son!] (Jacob [Supplanter]’s firstborn), Simeon [Hearing], Levi [United with], Judah [Praised], Issachar [Hire, Reward], and Zebulun [Living together].
24 Rahel nso mmabarima baanu no ne Yosef ne Benyamin.
The sons of Rachel [Ewe sheep]: Joseph [May he add] and Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south].
25 Rahel afenaa Bilha mmabarima baanu no ne Dan ne Naftali
The sons of Bilhah [Bashful] (Rachel [Ewe sheep]’s servant): Dan [He judged] and Naphtali [My wrestling].
26 Lea afenaa Silpa nso mmabarima baanu no ne Gad ne Aser. Eyinom ne Yakob mmabarima a wɔwoo wɔn wɔ Paddan-Aram no.
The sons of Zilpah [Frailty] (Leah [Weary]’s servant): Gad [Good fortune] and Asher [Happy]. These are the sons of Jacob [Supplanter], who were born to him in Paddan Aram [Elevated].
27 Akyiri yi no, Yakob baa nʼagya Isak nkyɛn wɔ Mamrɛ wɔ Kiriat-Arba, a ɛno ara ne Hebron, faako a Abraham ne Isak tenaa sɛ ahɔho no.
Jacob [Supplanter] came to Isaac [Laughter] his father, to Mamre [Bitter, Fatness], to Kiriath Arba (which is Hebron), where Abraham [Father of a multitude] and Isaac [Laughter] lived as foreigners.
28 Isak dii mfe ɔha ne aduɔwɔtwe.
The days of Isaac [Laughter] were one hundred eighty years.
29 Isak wu ma wɔfaa no kɔkaa ne mpanyimfo ho; na wabɔ akwakoraa posoposo. Ne mmabarima Esau ne Yakob na wosiee no.
Isaac [Laughter] gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esau [Hairy] and Jacob [Supplanter], his sons, buried him.
