< 2 Beresosɛm 10 >
1 Rehoboam kɔɔ Sekem, efisɛ na Israel nyinaa ahyia hɔ sɛ wɔrebesi no hene.
And Rehoboam went to Shechem. For all Israel came to Shechem to make him king.
2 Bere a Nebat babarima Yeroboam tee sɛ Salomo awu no, ofi Misraim bae, efisɛ oguan fii ɔhene Salomo nsam kɔtenaa Misraim.
And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, from where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon), that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
3 Israel mpanyimfo soma ma wɔkɔfaa Yeroboam, na ɔne Israel nyinaa kɔɔ sɛ wɔne Rehoboam rekɔkasa.
And they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
4 Wɔkae se, “Wʼagya hyɛɛ yɛn ma yɛyɛɛ adwumaden. Yɛsrɛ wo, tew saa adwumaden ne sonkahiri adesoa duruduru a wʼagya de soaa yɛn no so. Woyɛ saa a, yɛbɛsom wo nokware mu.”
Thy father made our yoke grievous. Now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
5 Rehoboam buae se, “Momma me nnansa na menwene mo asɛm yi ho. Ɛno akyi, mommra mmegye me mmuae.” Enti nnipa no san kɔe.
And he said to them, Come again to me after three days. And the people departed.
6 Na Ɔhene Rehoboam kɔɔ ne mpanyimfo bi a na wotu nʼagya Salomo fo ne wɔn kosusuw asɛm no ho. Obisaa wɔn se, “Moka asɛm no ho dɛn? Mmuae bɛn na memfa mma saa nnipa yi?”
And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel do ye give me to return an answer to this people?
7 Mpanyimfo yi buae se, “Sɛ woyɛ nnipa no yiye, na woyɛ ayamye kyerɛ wɔn ma ɛsɔ wɔn ani a, wɔn nso bɛyɛ wo nkurɔfo nokwafo.”
And they spoke to him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants forever.
8 Nanso Rehoboam amfa afotu a mpanyimfo no maa no no. Mmom, ɔkɔɔ nʼatipɛnfo mmabun bi a ɔne wɔn sii so a na wotu no fo no nkyɛn.
But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that grew up with him, who stood before him.
9 Obisaa wɔn se, “Mo nso mo adwene ne dɛn? Mmuae bɛn na memfa nkɔma nnipa a wɔpɛ sɛ metew adesoa a mʼagya de soaa wɔn no so?”
And he said to them, What counsel do ye give, that we may return an answer to this people who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father put upon us lighter?
10 Mmerante no buae se, “Asɛm a ɛsɛ sɛ woka kyerɛ wɔn ne se, ‘Me nsateaa ketewa no mu piw sen mʼagya asen mu. Na sɛ modwene sɛ na ɔyɛ den wɔ mo so a, montwɛn na mubehu sɛnea mete.’
And the young men that grew up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall thou say to the people who spoke to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter to us. Thus shall thou say to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.
11 Yiw, na mʼagya yɛ den wɔ mo so, nanso me de, mɛyɛ nea ɛkyɛn saa. Sɛ mʼagya kaa mo mpire a, me de, mede nkekantwɛre na ɛbɛhwe mo.”
And now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I with scorpions.
12 Nnansa akyi no, Yeroboam ne nnipa no nyinaa san baa sɛ wɔrebetie Rehoboam mmuae sɛnea ɔkae no.
So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.
13 Na Rehoboam de ahantan kasa kyerɛɛ wɔn. Wamfa mpanyimfo no afotu,
And the king answered them roughly. And king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
14 na ɔfaa mmerante no afotu. Ɔka kyerɛɛ nnipa no se, “Na mʼagya ma moyɛ adwumaden, na me de, mɛkyɛn saa! Sɛ mʼagya kaa mo mpire a, me de, mede nkekantwɛre na ɛbɛhwe mo!”
and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto. My father chastised you with whips, but I with scorpions.
15 Enti ɔhene no anyɛ nnipa no abisade no ho hwee. Saa nsɛm a esisii yi yɛ Onyankopɔn nhyehyɛe, efisɛ ɛmaa Awurade nkɔm a ɔnam odiyifo Ahiya a ofi Silo no hyɛɛ Nebat babarima Yeroboam no baa mu.
So the king did not hearken to the people. For it was brought about by God, that Jehovah might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16 Bere a Israel huu sɛ ɔhene no anyɛ wɔn abisade amma wɔn no, wɔteɛteɛɛ mu se, “Dawid ne nʼadedi ntoaso no mfa wɔn ho. Yɛne Yisai babarima no nni twaka biara. Israel, momma yɛnkɔ yɛn afi. Dawid, kɔhwehwɛ wʼankasa wo fi.” Enti Israel nyinaa san kɔɔ fie.
And when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to your tents, O Israel. Now see to thine own house, David. So all Israel departed to their tents.
17 Na Rehoboam kɔɔ so dii Israelfo a na wɔtete Yuda nkurow so no so hene.
But as for the sons of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18 Ɔhene Rehoboam somaa Hadoram a na ɔhwɛ adwumayɛfo so no sɛ ɔnkɔhwɛ mma ɔman no nyɛ dinn, nanso Israelfo no siw no abo kum no. Bere a ɔhene Rehoboam tee saa asɛm no, ntɛm ara, ohuruw tenaa ne teaseɛnam mu, guan kɔɔ Yerusalem.
Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to task work. And the sons of Israel stoned him to death with stones. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19 Israel mmusuakuw a wɔwɔ atifi fam no ampene sɛ Dawid aseni biara bedi wɔn so, de besi nnɛ.
So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.
