1 Mfe abiɛsa akyi no, Awurade asɛm baa Elia nkyɛn se, “Fa wo ho kɔkyerɛ ɔhene Ahab na ka kyerɛ no se ɛrenkyɛ biara, mɛma osu atɔ asase no so.”
And the days are many, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Elijah in the third year, saying, 'Go, appear unto Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground;'
2 Elia de ne ho kɔkyerɛɛ ɔhene Ahab. Na ɔkɔm no ano yɛɛ den yiye wɔ Samaria.
and Elijah goeth to appear unto Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria,
3 Ahab frɛɛ Obadia a na ɔhwɛ nʼahemfi so no. Na Obadia gye Awurade di yiye.
and Ahab calleth unto Obadiah, who [is] over the house — and Obadiah hath been fearing Jehovah greatly,
4 Bere a na Isebel rekunkum Awurade adiyifo no, Obadia faa adiyifo no ɔha de wɔn kosiee abodan abien mu a, wɔn mu aduonum biara da ɔbodan baako mu. Na ɔmaa wɔn aduan ne nsu.
and it cometh to pass, in Jezebel's cutting off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah taketh a hundred prophets, and hideth them, fifty men in a cave, and hath sustained them with bread and water —
5 Ahab ka kyerɛɛ Obadia se, “Kɔ na kɔhwehwɛ asase no so mmura ne abon nyinaa sɛ ebia yebenya sare ama apɔnkɔ ne mfurum yi awe sɛnea wɔrenwuwu.”
and Ahab saith unto Obadiah, 'Go through the land, unto all fountains of waters, and unto all the brooks, if so be we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the cattle.'
6 Enti wɔkyɛɛ asase no mu maa wɔn ho. Ahab faa fa na Obadia nso faa fa.
And they apportion to themselves the land, to pass over into it; Ahab hath gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah hath gone in another way by himself;
7 Obadia nam no, Elia hyiaa no. Obadia huu no, kaee no nti, ɔkotow no wɔ fam kae se, “Enti wo ni, me wura Elia?”
and Obadiah [is] in the way, and lo, Elijah — to meet him; and he discerneth him, and falleth on his face, and saith, 'Art thou he — my lord Elijah?'
8 Elia buae se, “Yiw, kɔka kyerɛ wo wura se, ‘Elia wɔ ha.’”
And he saith to him, 'I [am]; go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah.'
9 Obadia bisae se, “Me wura, dɛn bɔne na mayɛ a enti woresoma me Ahab nkyɛn ama wɔakum me yi?
And he saith, 'What have I sinned, that thou art giving thy servant into the hand of Ahab — to put me to death?
10 Mmere dodow a Awurade, wo Nyankopɔn te ase yi, ɔman anaa ahemman biara nni hɔ a me wura nsomaa obi wɔ so sɛ ɔnhwehwɛ wo. Na ɔman anaa ahemman biara a wɔbɛka sɛ wunni so no, ɔma wɔka ntam, ka se wɔanhu wo.
Jehovah thy God liveth, if there is a nation and kingdom whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it doth not find thee;
11 Na afei, woka kyerɛ me sɛ menkɔ me wura nkyɛn nkɔka nkyerɛ no se, ‘Elia wɔ ha.’
and now, thou art saying, Go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah;
12 Minnim baabi a sɛ migyaw wo hɔ kɔ a, Awurade honhom bɛpagyaw wo akosi. Sɛ mekɔka kyerɛ Ahab, na wanhu wo a, obekum me. Nanso me, wo somfo, masom Awurade fi me mmofraase.
and it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth.
13 Me wura, wontee nea meyɛɛ bere a na Isebel rekunkum Awurade adiyifo no ana? Mede Awurade adiyifo no ɔha siee abodan abien mu a, na wɔn mu aduonum wɔ ɔbodan baako biara mu. Memaa wɔn aduan ne nsu nso.
'Hath it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel's slaying the prophets of Jehovah, that I hide of the prophets of Jehovah a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?
14 Na afei, woka kyerɛ me se menkɔ me wura nkyɛn nkɔka nkyerɛ no se, ‘Elia wɔ ha!’ Obekum me!”
and now thou art saying, Go, say to my lord, Lo, Elijah — and he hath slain me!'
15 Elia kaa se, “Mmere dodow a Awurade a mesom no te ase yi, nea ɛbɛyɛ biara, mede me ho bɛma Ahab nnɛ.”
And Elijah saith, 'Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely to-day I appear unto him.'
16 Enti Obadia kohyiaa Ahab, ka kyerɛɛ no, na Ahab kohyiaa Elia.
And Obadiah goeth to meet Ahab, and declareth [it] to him, and Ahab goeth to meet Elijah,
17 Ohuu Elia no, obisaa no se, “Wo ni, wo a wohaw Israelfo?”
and it cometh to pass at Ahab's seeing Elijah, that Ahab saith unto him, 'Art thou he — the troubler of Israel?'
18 Elia buae se, “Menhaw Israel ɔkwan biara so. Na mmom, wo ne wʼagya fifo na moahaw Israel. Moagyae Awurade mmara so di, akodi Baal akyi.
And he saith, 'I have not troubled Israel, but thou and the house of thy father, in your forsaking the commands of Jehovah, and thou goest after the Baalim;
19 Enti frɛ Israel nnipa nyinaa na wommehyia me Karmel bepɔw so. Na fa Baal adiyifo ahannan aduonum ne Asera adiyifo ahannan a wodidi Isebel didipon so no nso bra.”
and now, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto the mount of Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the shrine, four hundred — eating at the table of Jezebel.'
20 Na Ahab soma kɔɔ Israel nyinaa kɔboaboaa adiyifo no ano wɔ Karmel bepɔw so.
And Ahab sendeth among all the sons of Israel, and gathereth the prophets unto the mount of Carmel;
21 Elia dii nnipa no anim kae se, “Moadwene bɛyɛ ntanta wɔ saa asɛm yi ho akosi da bɛn? Sɛ Awurade yɛ Onyankopɔn a, munni nʼakyi, na sɛ Baal nso yɛ Onyankopɔn a, munni nʼakyi.” Nanso nnipa no yɛɛ dinn.
and Elijah cometh nigh unto all the people, and saith, 'Till when are ye leaping on the two branches? — if Jehovah [is] God, go after Him; and if Baal, go after him;' and the people have not answered him a word.
22 Elia ka kyerɛɛ ɔman no se, “Me nko ara ne Awurade odiyifo a maka, nanso Baal wɔ adiyifo ahannan aduonum.
And Elijah saith unto the people, 'I — I have been left a prophet of Jehovah — by myself; and the prophets of Baal [are] four hundred and fifty men;
23 Momma yɛn anantwinini abien. Momma wonyi mu baako, na wontwitwa no asinasin mfa ngu nnyina so, nsɔ wɔn mu gya. Nantwinini baako a waka no, mɛyɛ ne ho adwuma de agu nnyina so a merento mu gya.
and let them give to us two bullocks, and they choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and place [it] on the wood, and place no fire; and I — I prepare the other bullock, and have put [it] on the wood, and fire I do not place; —
24 Na mobɛfrɛ mo nyame na me nso mafrɛ Awurade. Onyame a ɔnam ogya so gye so no, ɔno ne Onyankopɔn.” Ɔmanfo no nyinaa penee so.
and ye have called in the name of your god, and I — I call in the name of Jehovah, and it hath been, the god who answereth by fire — He [is] the God.' And all the people answer and say, 'Good [is] the word.'
25 Elia ka kyerɛɛ Baal adiyifo no se, “Momfa anantwinini no baako, na munni kan nsiesie no, efisɛ mo dɔɔso. Momfrɛ mo nyame a, monnto mu gya.”
And Elijah saith to the prophets of Baal, 'Choose for you the one bullock, and prepare first, for ye [are] the multitude, and call ye in the name of your god, and place no fire.'
26 Enti wɔfaa nantwinini a wɔkae se wɔmfa no no, siesiee no too afɔremuka no so. Afei, wɔfrɛɛ Baal, frɛɛ no, frɛɛ no fi anɔpa mu nyinaa se, “Ao, Baal! Tie yɛn oo!” Wɔteɛteɛɛ mu saa ara, nanso wɔannya mmuae biara! Afei wɔde anibere saw faa afɔremuka a wɔasi no ho hyiae.
And they take the bullock that [one] gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, 'O Baal, answer us!' and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.
27 Eduu owigyinae no, Elia dii wɔn ho fɛw se, “Monteɛteɛ mu den! Ɔyɛ onyame! Ebia, ɔredwen biribi ho denneennen anaa ɔregye nʼahome, onyaa adagyew anaa watu kwan. Ebi nso a, na wada a ɛsɛ sɛ wonyan no.”
And it cometh to pass, at noon, that Elijah playeth on them, and saith, 'Call with a loud voice, for he [is] a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, an doth awake.'
28 Enti wɔteɛteɛ mu den, de afoa twitwaa wɔn ho wɔn ho, wowɔɔ wɔn ho wɔn ho peaw sɛnea wɔn amanne te, maa mogya pram wɔn.
And they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, till a flowing of blood [is] on them;
29 Owigyinae no twaa mu mpo no wɔtoaa wɔn nkɔmhyɛ no so, kosii anwummere afɔrebɔ bere no mu. Nanso mmuae biara amma. Wɔante obiara nne na obiara annye wɔn so.
and it cometh to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets till the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending.
30 Afei, Elia ka kyerɛɛ ɔmanfo no nyinaa se, “Mommra me nkyɛn ha.” Wɔkɔɔ ne nkyɛn, na osiesiee Awurade afɔremuka a na abubu no.
And Elijah saith to all the people, 'Come nigh unto me;' and all the people come nigh unto him, and he repaireth the altar of Jehovah that is broken down;
31 Elia faa abo dumien a baako biara gyina hɔ ma Israel abusuakuw baako,
and Elijah taketh twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah was, saying, 'Israel is thy name;'
32 na ɔde abo no san sii Awurade afɔremuka no. Na otwaa amoa a ne trɛw bɛyɛ anammɔn abiɛsa faa afɔremuka no ho hyiae.
and he buildeth with the stones an altar, in the name of Jehovah, and maketh a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, round about the altar.
33 Ɔde nnyansin guu afɔremuka no so, twitwaa nantwinini no asinasin guu so. Afei ɔkae se, “Monhyɛ nhina akɛse no nsu ma ma, na munhwie ngu afɔrebɔde no ne nnyansin no so.” Wɔyɛɛ nea ɔkae no wiei no,
And he arrangeth the wood, and cutteth in pieces the bullock, and placeth [it] on the wood, and saith, 'Fill ye four pitchers of water, and pour on the burnt-offering, and on the wood;
34 ɔkae se, “Monyɛ saa ara bio!” Na wɔyɛɛ saa wiei no, ɔkae se, “Monyɛ saa ne mprɛnsa so.” Wɔyɛɛ sɛnea ɔkae no,
and he saith, 'Do [it] a second time;' and they do [it] a second time; and he saith, 'Do [it] a third time;' and they do [it] a third time;
35 maa nsu no sen faa afɔremuka no ho, maa mpo, ebu faa amoa no so.
and the water goeth round about the altar, and also, the trench he hath filled with water.
36 Eduu bere a ɛsɛ sɛ wɔbɔ anwummere afɔre, sɛnea wɔn amanne kyerɛ no, odiyifo Elia kɔɔ afɔremuka no so, bɔɔ mpae se, “Awurade, Abraham, Isak ne Yakob Nyankopɔn, kyerɛ nnɛ sɛ woyɛ Nyankopɔn wɔ Israel, na meyɛ wo somfo. Kyerɛ sɛ, nea mereyɛ yi nyinaa fi wo.
And it cometh to pass, at the going up of the [evening -]present, that Elijah the prophet cometh nigh and saith, 'Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that Thou [art] God in Israel, and I Thy servant, that by Thy word I have done the whole of these things;
37 Awurade, tie me! Tie me na saa nnipa yi nyinaa nhu sɛ, Awurade, woyɛ Onyankopɔn a woatwe wɔn asan aba wo nkyɛn.”
answer me, O Jehovah, answer me, and this people doth know that Thou [art] Jehovah God; and Thou hast turned their heart backward.'
38 Nʼano sii pɛ, na ogya a efi Awurade nkyɛn tew fii soro bɛhyew nantwinini ba no, nnyansin no, abo no ne mfutuma no. Mpo, ɛyow amoa no mu nsu no nyinaa.
And there falleth a fire of Jehovah, and consumeth the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that [is] in the trench it hath licked up.
39 Nnipa no hui no, wɔde wɔn anim butubutuw fam, teɛteɛɛ mu se, “Awurade yɛ Onyankopɔn! Awurade yɛ Onyankopɔn!”
And all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, 'Jehovah, He [is] the God, Jehovah, He [is] the God.'
40 Na Elia hyɛe se, “Monkyere Baal adiyifo no nyinaa. Mommma wɔn mu baako koraa nguan.” Enti ɔmanfo no kyekyeree wɔn nyinaa. Na Elia de wɔn kɔɔ Kison bon mu kokunkum wɔn wɔ hɔ.
And Elijah saith to them, 'Catch ye the prophets of Baal; let not a man escape of them;' and they catch them, and Elijah bringeth them down unto the stream Kishon, and doth slaughter them there.
41 Elia ka kyerɛɛ Ahab se, “Kɔ na kodi aduan pa, ma wo ho ntɔ wo! Na mate sɛ osu kɛse bi rebɛtɔ.”
And Elijah saith to Ahab, 'Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.'
42 Enti Ahab too pon. Na Elia foro kɔɔ Karmel bepɔw atifi, kobutuw fam, bɔɔ mpae.
And Ahab goeth up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah hath gone up unto the top of Carmel, and he stretcheth himself out on the earth, and he placeth his face between his knees,
43 Na ɔka kyerɛɛ ne somfo se, “Kɔ na fa wʼani kyerɛ po so.” Ɔsomfo no kɔ kɔhwɛɛ hɔ, na ɔba bɛka kyerɛɛ Elia se, “Manhu hwee.” Elia kaa saa kyerɛɛ no mpɛn ason sɛ ɔmfa nʼani nkɔkyerɛ hɔ. Ɔno nso kɔɔ mpɛn ason.
and saith unto his young man, 'Go up, I pray thee, look attentively the way of the sea;' and he goeth up and looketh attentively, and saith, 'There is nothing;' and he saith, 'Turn back,' seven times.
44 Ne mpɛn ason so no, ne somfo no ka kyerɛɛ no se, “Mihuu omununkum bi a ɛte sɛ onipa abasa a apue afi po no so reforo.” Ɛhɔ ara na Elia teɛɛ mu se, “Ntɛm! Kɔ Ahab nkyɛn kɔka kyerɛ no. ‘Foro wo teaseɛnam no, na san kɔ fie. Sɛ woanka wo ho a, osu no besiw wo kwan.’”
And it cometh to pass, at the seventh, that he saith, 'Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.' And he saith, 'Go up, say unto Ahab, 'Bind — and go down, and the shower doth not restrain thee.'
45 Ankyɛ biara na osu munaa tumm. Osuframa bɔe, na osu kɛse tɔe, na ntɛm so, Ahab kɔɔ Yesreel.
And it cometh to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black — thick clouds and wind — and the shower is great; and Ahab rideth, and goeth to Jezreel,
46 Afei, Awurade maa Elia ahoɔden sononko bi. Ɔkekaa nʼatade hyɛɛ nʼabɔso mu, na odii Ahab teaseɛnam no kan ara kosii Yesreel kwan ano.
and the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel.
