1 Awurade hyɛɛ Onyame nipa bi ma ɔkɔɔ Bet-El, na oduu hɔ bere a na Yeroboam rekɔ afɔremuka no ho akɔbɔ afɔre.
And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Beth-el: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.
2 Na ɔde Awurade nsɛm mu teɛɛ mu guu afɔremuka no so se, “Afɔremuka! Afɔremuka! Sɛnea Awurade se ni: ‘Wɔbɛwo ɔbabarima bi a wɔbɛto no din Yosia ato Dawid fi, na wo so na ɔde asɔfo a wofi nsɔree so ha a wɔhyew aduhuam ne nnipa nnompe no bɛbɔ afɔre!’”
And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.
3 Da no ara, Onyankopɔn nipa no yɛɛ nsɛnkyerɛnne, na ɔkae se, “Eyi ne nsɛnkyerɛnne a Awurade ada no adi. Afɔremuka no mu bɛpae abien, na nsõ a egu so no ahwie agu.”
And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This [is] the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that [are] upon it shall be poured out.
4 Ɔhene Yeroboam bo fuw Onyame nipa yi sɛ wakasa atia afɔremuka yi. Enti ɔteɛɛ ne nsa wɔ ne so, teɛɛ mu se, “Monkyere no!” Nanso ne nsa a ɔteɛɛ wɔ ɔbarima no so no sinsenii a wantumi anyɛ ho hwee.
And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Beth-el, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
5 Na afɔremuka no mu paee abien, na nsõ a egu so no hwie gui, sɛnea nsɛnkyerɛnne a Onyankopɔn nipa nam Awurade nsɛm so daa no adi kyerɛɛ no.
The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
6 Afei, ɔhene no srɛɛ Onyankopɔn nipa no se, “Srɛ Awurade, wo Nyankopɔn, ma me na me nsa no nya ahoɔden.” Enti Onyankopɔn nipa no srɛɛ Awurade maa no, na ɔhene no nsa nyaa ahoɔden ma ɛyɛɛ sɛnea na ɛte kan no.
And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored him again, and became as [it was] before.
7 Afei, ɔhene no ka kyerɛɛ Onyankopɔn nipa no se, “Ma yɛnkɔ fie, na kodidi, na mɛma wo akyɛde bi.”
And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.
8 Nanso Onyankopɔn nipa no buaa no se, “Mpo, sɛ wode wʼagyapade mu fa bɛkyɛ me koraa a, me ne wo renkɔ, na brodo nso, merenni na manom nsu wɔ ha.
And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:
9 Awurade asɛm so na wɔnam hyɛɛ me se, ‘Ɛnsɛ sɛ wudi brodo anaa wonom nsu wɔ hɔ. Afei, nsan mfa ɔkwan a wofaa so kɔɔ Bet-El no so.’”
For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.
10 Enti ofi Bet-El faa ɔkwan foforo so sɛ ɔrekɔ fie.
So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Beth-el.
11 Na ɛbaa sɛ na odiyifo akwakoraa bi te Bet-El. Ne mmabarima bɛkaa nea Onyankopɔn nipa no ayɛ wɔ Bet-El da no nyinaa kyerɛɛ no. Afei, wɔkaa asɛm a waka akyerɛ ɔhene no nyinaa kyerɛɛ wɔn agya no.
Now there dwelt an old prophet in Beth-el; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Beth-el: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
12 Odiyifo akwakoraa no bisaa wɔn se, “Na ɔfaa he?” Na ne mmabarima no kyerɛɛ no ɔkwan a Onyankopɔn nipa no faa so kɔe.
And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah.
13 Ɔka kyerɛɛ ne mmabarima no se, “Monhyehyɛ afurum no mma me ntɛm.” Na wɔhyehyɛɛ afurum no maa no no, ohuruw tenaa ne so
And he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. So they saddled him the ass: and he rode thereon,
14 tiw Onyankopɔn nipa no. Ɔkɔtoo no sɛ ɔte odum bi ase, na odiyifo akwakoraa no bisaa no se, “Wone Onyankopɔn nipa a wufi Yuda no ana?” Obuaa no se, “Yiw, ɛyɛ me.”
And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, [Art] thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I [am].
15 Afei, odiyifo no ka kyerɛɛ no se, “Ma yɛnkɔ fie, na kodidi.”
Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.
16 Onyankopɔn nipa no ka kyerɛɛ no se, “Merentumi nsan mʼakyi. Minni ho kwan sɛ mididi anaa menom nsu wɔ ha.
And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:
17 Awurade hyɛɛ me se, ‘Ɛnsɛ sɛ wudi aduan biara anaa wonom nsu bere a wowɔ hɔ, anaa wofa ɔkwan a wofaa so kɔɔ hɔ no so san wʼakyi.’”
For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.
18 Odiyifo akwakoraa no buae se, “Me nso, meyɛ odiyifo sɛ wo ara. Na ɔbɔfo bi kaa Awurade asɛm kyerɛɛ me se, ‘Fa no san bra wo fi, na ommedidi na ɔnnom nsu.’” Nanso na odiyifo akwakoraa no redaadaa no.
He said unto him, I [am] a prophet also as thou [art; ] and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. [But] he lied unto him.
19 Enti Onyankopɔn nipa no ne no san kɔe, kodidi nomee wɔ ne fi.
So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.
20 Bere a wɔte didipon ho redidi no, nkra fi Awurade nkyɛn baa odiyifo akwakoraa no so.
And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:
21 Ɔteɛɛ mu guu Onyankopɔn nipa a ofi Yuda no so se, “Sɛɛ na Awurade ka: Woabu Awurade asɛm so, na woanni ahyɛde a Awurade, wo Nyankopɔn, hyɛɛ wo no so.
And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,
22 Wosan baa ha bedii aduan, nom nsu, nanso ɔka kyerɛɛ wo se nni hwee, nnom hwee. Esiane eyi nti, wɔrensie wʼamu wɔ wʼagyanom da mu.”
But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which [the Lord] did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.
23 Na Onyankopɔn nipa no didi nom wiei no, odiyifo no hyehyɛɛ nʼafurum no maa no,
And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, [to wit], for the prophet whom he had brought back.
24 na Onyankopɔn nipa no sii kwan so bio. Na ɔrekɔ no ara, gyata bi ba bekum no. Nʼamu no daa ɔkwan mu a, na afurum no ne gyata no gyinagyina ho.
And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.
25 Nnipa ba bɛtoo so sɛ amu no da ɔkwan mu a gyata no gyina ho. Enti wɔkɔbɔɔ amanneɛ wɔ Bet-El baabi a odiyifo akwakoraa no te hɔ.
And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they came and told [it] in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
26 Bere a odiyifo akwakoraa no tee asɛm no, ɔkae se, “Ɛyɛ Onyankopɔn nipa no a wanni Awurade ahyɛde so no. Awurade ama nʼasɛm no aba mu sɛ ɔmaa gyata tow hyɛɛ no so, kum no.”
And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard [thereof], he said, It [is] the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
27 Na odiyifo no ka kyerɛɛ ne mmabarima no se, “Monhyehyɛ afurum no mma me.” Na wɔhyehyɛɛ afurum no.
And he spake to his sons, saying, Saddle me the ass. And they saddled [him].
28 Ɔkɔ kohuu sɛ amu no da ɔkwan mu. Na afurum no ne gyata no da so gyinagyina ne ho, a gyata no nwee amu no, nto nhyɛɛ afurum no nso so.
And he went and found his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcase: the lion had not eaten the carcase, nor torn the ass.
29 Enti odiyifo no faa Onyankopɔn nipa no amu no de no too nʼafurum no so, san de no kɔɔ kurom, kosuu no, siee no.
And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him.
30 Ɔde amu no too nʼankasa ne da mu, fii awerɛhow mu, suu no se, “Ao, me nua!”
And he laid his carcase in his own grave; and they mourned over him, [saying], Alas, my brother!
31 Akyiri no, odiyifo no ka kyerɛɛ ne mmabarima no se, “Sɛ mewu a, munsie me wɔ ɔda a woasie Onyankopɔn nipa wɔ mu no mu. Momfa me nnompe ngu ne nnompe ho.
And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God [is] buried; lay my bones beside his bones:
32 Na asɛm a Awurade ka kyerɛɛ no se ɔnka ntia afɔremuka a ɛwɔ Bet-El ne abosomfi no a ɛwowɔ Samaria nkurow so no, ɛbɛba mu.”
For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Beth-el, and against all the houses of the high places which [are] in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.
33 Nanso eyi akyi koraa no, Yeroboam annan ne ho amfi nʼakwammɔne no so. Ɔkɔɔ so yii asɔfo fi nnipa no mu. Obiara a ɔpɛ no, otumi yɛɛ ɔsɔfo wɔ abosomfi hɔ.
After this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became [one] of the priests of the high places.
34 Eyi bɛyɛɛ bɔne kɛse, na ɛnam so sɛee Yeroboam ahemman, maa ne fifo nyinaa wuwui.
And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut [it] off, and to destroy [it] from off the face of the earth.
