1 Rehoboam kɔɔ Sekem, efisɛ na Israelfo nyinaa akɔ hɔ sɛ wɔrekosi no hene.

And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for al Israel were come to Sheche, to make him king

2 Bere a Nebat babarima Yeroboam tee sɛ Salomo awu no, ofi Misraim bae, efisɛ oguan fii ɔhene Salomo nsam kɔtenaa Misraim.

And whe Ieroboam ye sonne of Nebat heard of it (who was yet in Egypt, whither Ieroboam had fled from king Salomon, and dwelt in Egypt)

3 Enti Israel mpanyimfo soma ma wɔkɔfaa Yeroboam, na Israel nnipadɔm no nyinaa kɔɔ Rehoboam nkyɛn, ne no kɔkasae se,

Then they sent and called him: and Ieroboam and all the Congregation of Israel came, and spake vnto Rehoboam, saying,

4 “Wʼagya hyɛɛ yɛn ma yɛyɛɛ adwumaden. Yɛsrɛ wo, tew saa adwumaden ne sonkahiri adesoa duruduru a wʼagya de soaa yɛn no so. Woyɛ saa a, yɛbɛsom wo nokware mu.”

Thy father made our yoke grieuous: now therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke which he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.

5 Rehoboam buae se, “Momma me nnansa na menwene mo asɛm yi ho. Ɛno akyi, mommra mmegye me mmuae.” Enti nnipa no san kɔe.

And he said vnto them, Depart yet for three dayes, then come againe to me. And the people departed.

6 Na Ɔhene Rehoboam kɔɔ ne mpanyimfo bi a na wotu nʼagya Salomo fo ne wɔn kosusuw asɛm no ho. Obisaa wɔn se, “Moka asɛm no ho dɛn? Mmuae bɛn na memfa mma saa nnipa yi?”

And King Rehoboam tooke counsell with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while he yet liued, and sayde, What counsell giue ye, that I may make an answere to this people?

7 Wobuaa no se, “Sɛ nnɛ yi, wopɛ sɛ woyɛ ɔsomfo ma saa nnipa yi, na woma wɔn mmuae pa a, ɛno de, daa wɔbɛsom wo nokware mu.”

And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be a seruant vnto this people this day, and serue them, and answere them, and speake kinde wordes to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.

8 Nanso Rehoboam amfa afotu a mpanyimfo no maa no no. Mmom, ɔkɔɔ nʼatipɛnfo mmabun bi a ɔne wɔn sii so a na wotu no fo no nkyɛn.

But he forsooke the counsell that the olde men had giuen him, and asked counsell of the yong men that had bene brought vp with him, and waited on him.

9 Okobisaa wɔn se, “Mo nso, mo afotu ne dɛn? Mmuae bɛn na memfa mma saa nnipa a wɔpɛ sɛ metew adesoa duruduru a mʼagya de soaa wɔn no so?”

And he said vnto them, What counsell giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke, which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?

10 Mmerante no buae se, “Asɛm a ɛsɛ sɛ woka kyerɛ wɔn ne se, ‘Me nsateaa ketewa no mu piw sen mʼagya asen mu. Na sɛ modwene sɛ na ɔyɛ den wɔ mo so a, montwɛn na mubehu sɛnea mete.’

Then the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say vnto this people, that haue spoken vnto thee, and said, Thy father hath made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter vnto vs: euen thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loynes.

11 Yiw, mʼagya yɛɛ den wɔ mo so, na mɛyɛ aboro saa. Mʼagya hwee mo mpire na me de, mede nkekantwɛre na ɛbɛhwe mo.”

Now where as my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet make your yoke heauier: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

12 Nnansa akyi no, Yeroboam ne nnipa no nyinaa san baa sɛ wɔrebetie Rehoboam mmuae sɛnea ɔkae no.

Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me againe ye thirde day.

13 Ɔhene no buaa nnipa no abufuw so. Wamfa mpanyimfo no afotu no;

And the king answered the people sharpely, and left the old mens counsell that they gaue him,

14 ɔfaa mmabun no afotu. Ɔka kyerɛɛ nnipa no se, “Mʼagya yɛɛ den wɔ mo so, na mɛyɛ aboro saa. Mʼagya hwee mo mpire na me de mede nkekantwɛre bɛkeka mo.”

And spake to them after the counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, and I will make your yoke more grieuous: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

15 Enti ɔhene no anyɛ nnipa no abisade no ho hwee. Saa nsɛm a esisii yi yɛ Onyankopɔn nhyehyɛe, efisɛ ɛmaa Awurade nkɔm a ɔnam odiyifo Ahiya a ofi Silo no hyɛɛ Nebat babarima Yeroboam no baa mu.

And the King hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of the Lord, that he might perfourme his saying, which the Lord had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite vnto Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.

16 Bere a Israel nyinaa huu sɛ ɔhene anyɛ wɔn abisade amma wɔn no, wɔteɛteɛɛ mu se, “Yɛne Dawid nni hwee yɛ! Yɛne Yisai babarima no nni hwee yɛ! Israel, momma yɛnkɔ yɛn nkyi! Dawid, hwɛ wʼankasa wo fi so!” Enti Israelfo no san kɔɔ wɔn fi.

So when all Israel sawe that the King regarded them not, the people answered the King thus, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? we haue none inheritance in the sonne of Ishai. To your tents, O Israel: nowe see to thine owne house, Dauid. So Israel departed vnto their tents.

17 Na Rehoboam kɔɔ so dii Israelfo a na wɔtete Yuda nkurow so no so hene.

Howbeit ouer the children of Israel, which dwelt in the cities of Iudah, did Rehoboam reigne still.

18 Ɔhene Rehoboam somaa Adoram a na ɔhwɛ adwumayɛfo so no sɛ ɔnkɔhwɛ mma ɔman no nyɛ dinn, nanso Israelfo no siw no abo kum no. Bere a ɔhene Rehoboam tee saa asɛm no, ntɛm ara, ohuruw tenaa ne teaseɛnam mu, guan kɔɔ Yerusalem.

Nowe the King Rehoboam sent Adoram the receiuer of the tribute, and all Israel stoned him to death: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.

19 Israel mmusuakuw a wɔwɔ atifi fam no ampene sɛ Dawid aseni biara bedi wɔn so, de besi nnɛ.

And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.

20 Bere a Israelfo tee sɛ Yeroboam fi Misraim asan aba no, wɔyɛɛ nhyiamu, sii no hene wɔ Israel nyinaa so. Enti Yuda abusuakuw no nko ara na wɔkae, som Dawid fi nokware mu.

And when all Israel had heard that Ieroboam was come againe, they sent and called him vnto the assemblie, and made him King ouer all Israel: none followed the house of Dauid, but the tribe of Iudah onely.

21 Bere a Rehoboam duu Yerusalem no, ɔboaboaa Yuda ne Benyamin asraafo ano. Oyii akofo mpem ɔha ne aduɔwɔtwe, sɛ wɔrekɔko atia Israel asraafo, na wɔafa ahemman no adi so.

And when Rehoboam was come to Ierusalem, he gathered all the house of Iudah with the tribe of Beniamin an hundreth and foure score thousand of chosen men (which were good warriours) to fight against the house of Israel, and to bring the kingdome againe to Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon.

22 Nanso Onyankopɔn ka kyerɛɛ Semaia, Onyankopɔn nipa no se,

But the worde of God came vnto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

23 “Ka kyerɛ Salomo babarima Rehoboam, Yudahene ne nnipa a wofi Yuda ne Benyamin se,

Speake vnto Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon King of Iudah, and vnto all the house of Iudah and Beniamin, and the remnant of the people, saying,

24 ‘Sɛnea Awurade se ni, Mo ne mo nuanom Israelfo nntwa mo ho nko. Monsan nkɔ mo akyi, na nea asi no nyinaa fi me!’” Enti wotiee Awurade asɛm no, san kɔɔ wɔn fi sɛnea Awurade hyɛe no.

Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go vp, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: returne euery man to his house: for this thing is done by me. They obeyed therefore the worde of the Lord and returned, and departed, according to the worde of the Lord.

25 Yeroboam kyekyeree Sekem kurow wɔ Efraim bepɔw asase so ma ɛbɛyɛɛ ne kuropɔn. Akyiri no, ɔkɔkyekyeree kurow Penuel.

Then Ieroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein, and went from thence, and built Penuel.

26 Yeroboam dwenee ho dinn, see ne koma mu se, “Sɛ manhwɛ yiye a, ahemman no bɛsan akɔ Dawid fifo adedifo nsam.

And Ieroboam thought in his heart, Nowe shall the kingdome returne to the house of Dauid.

27 Na sɛ wɔkɔ Yerusalem, kɔbɔ afɔre wɔ Awurade Asɔredan mu nso a, wɔbɛsom Yudahene Rehoboam. Ɛba saa a, wobekum me, de ɔno mmom asi wɔn so hene.”

If this people goe vp and doe sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Ierusalem, then shall the heart of this people turne againe vnto their lorde, euen to Rehoboam King of Iudah: so shall they kill me and goe againe to Rehoboam King of Iudah.

28 Enti otiee nea nʼafotufo ka, na ɔyɛɛ sikakɔkɔɔ anantwi mma abien. Ɔka kyerɛɛ nnipa no se, “Ɛyɛ ɔbrɛ bebree sɛ mobɛforo akɔ Yerusalem akɔsom. Ɛno nti, Israel, eyinom ne anyame a woyii mo fii Misraim!”

Whereupon the King tooke counsell, and made two calues of golde, and saide vnto them, It is too much for you to goe vp to Ierusalem: beholde, O Israel, thy gods, which brought thee vp out of the lande of Egypt.

29 Ɔde nantwi mma ahoni yi sisii Israel anafo ne atifi, wɔ Bet-El ne Dan.

And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other set he in Dan.

30 Eyi bɛyɛɛ bɔne kɛse, efisɛ nnipa no som ahoni no, a na mpo wotwa kwan kɔ Dan.

And this thing turned to sinne: for the people went (because of the one) euen to Dan.

31 Yeroboam sisii abosonnan wɔ nkoko so, na ɔpaw asɔfo fii nnipa no mu a na womfi Lewi asɔfo abusua mu.

Also he made an house of hie places, and made Priestes of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sonnes of Leui.

32 Yeroboam hyehyɛɛ nyamesom dapɔnna wɔ Bet-El a na wodi saa nna no Bul ɔsram (bɛyɛ Ahinime) mu a na ɛte sɛ Yuda Guankɔbea Afahyɛ no ara. Bet-El hɔ na ɔno ankasa bɔɔ afɔre maa nantwimma ahoni a wayɛ no. Na Bet-El hɔ ara nso na ɔpaw asɔfo maa abosomfi a osisii no.

And Ieroboam made a feast the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, like vnto the feast that is in Iudah, and offred on the altar. So did he in Beth-el and offered vnto the calues that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the Priestes of the hie places, which he had made.

33 Na ɔno ankasa yii da bi too hɔ, Bul ɔsram (bɛyɛ Ɔsannaa) mfimfini mu hɔ, na Yeroboam kɔbɔɔ afɔre wɔ afɔremuka so wɔ Bet-El. Ɔhyɛɛ anyamesom afahyɛ ase maa Israel, na ɔforo kɔɔ afɔremuka no so kɔhyew aduhuam.

And he offered vpon the altar, which he had made in Beth-el, the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, (euen in the moneth which he had forged of his owne heart) and made a solemne feast vnto the children of Israel: and he went vp to the altar, to burne incense.
