1 Ɔdɔ na ɛsɛ sɛ mohwehwɛ akyi kwan. Momma mo koma mpere nhwehwɛ Honhom akyɛde no, ne titiriw no nkɔmhyɛ.
Follow after love, and earnestly desire spiritual things, and especially that you may prophesy.
2 Onipa a ɔka kasa foforo no nkasa nkyerɛ nnipa, na mmom ɔkasa kyerɛ Onyankopɔn, efisɛ obiara nte asɛm a ɔka no ase. Ɔnam Honhom no tumi so ka nokware mu ahintasɛm.
For the one who speaks in another language speaks not to people, but to God; for no one understands; but in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.
3 Nanso onipa a ɔhyɛ nkɔm no kasa kyerɛ nnipa, boa wɔn, hyɛ wɔn nkuran, kyekye wɔn werɛ.
But he who prophesies speaks to people for their encouragement, strengthening, and comfort.
4 Onipa a ɔka kasa foforo no boa ɔno ankasa ne ho, nanso onipa a ɔhyɛ nkɔm no boa asafo no nyinaa.
He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
5 Ɛwɔ mu sɛ mepɛ sɛ mo nyinaa ka kasa foforo de, nanso mepɛ sɛ mo nyinaa nya akyɛde a ɛbɛma mo ahyɛ nkɔm. Efisɛ onipa a ɔhyɛ nkɔm no ho hia yiye kyɛn onipa a ɔka kasa foforo no, gye sɛ obi wɔ hɔ a ɔbɛkyerɛ ase, ma aboa asafo no nyinaa.
Now I would like you all to speak in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy, and he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the church may be built up.
6 Enti anuanom, sɛ meba mo nkyɛn na meka kasa foforo a, mfaso bɛn na mubenya wɔ me ho? Morennya hwee gye sɛ meda Onyankopɔn ahintasɛm adi anaa meda osuahu bi adi, anaa meka nsɛm ma ɛkanyan mo, anaa mekyerɛkyerɛ mo.
But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with other languages, what would I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching?
7 Saa ara nso na nneɛma a nkwa nni mu, te sɛ abɛn anaa sanku a wɔde bɔ nnwom no, sɛ nnwom no bɔ no mu anna hɔ a, obiara rente ne dɛ.
Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they did not give a distinction in the sounds, how would it be known what is piped or harped?
8 Na sɛ nea ɔhyɛn akobɛn no nso anhyɛn no yiye a, hena na obesiesie ne ho akɔ ɔko?
For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war?
9 Saa ara nso na mibisa se, sɛ moka kasa foforo a emu nna hɔ a, ɛbɛyɛ dɛn na obi ate asɛm a moka no ase? Mo nsɛm no bɛyera wɔ mframa mu.
So also you, unless you uttered by the tongue words easy to understand, how would it be known what is spoken? For you would be speaking into the air.
10 Ɔkasa ahorow bebree na ɛwɔ wiase, nanso emu biara nni hɔ a ntease nni mu.
There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none is without meaning.
11 Na sɛ mente kasa a obi ka no ase a, nea ɔreka saa kasa no bɛyɛ ɔhɔho ama me, na me a meretie no nso, mayɛ ɔhɔho ama no.
If then I do not know the meaning of the sound, I would be to him who speaks a foreigner, and he who speaks would be a foreigner to me.
12 Esiane sɛ mopere sɛ mubenya Honhom no akyɛde no nti, ɛsɛ sɛ mohwehwɛ nea ɛbɛboa asafo no ama agyina yiye.
So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual things, seek that you may abound to the building up of the church.
13 Ɛsɛ sɛ obi a ɔka kasa foforo no bɔ mpae na otumi kyerɛ nsɛm a ɔka no ase.
Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret.
14 Sɛ meka kasa foforo bɔ mpae a, me honhom bɔ saa mpae no, nanso mʼadwene mmoa.
For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 Dɛn na afei ɛsɛ sɛ meyɛ? Mede me honhom bɛbɔ mpae, na mede me ntease bɛbɔ mpae nso; mede me honhom bɛto dwom, nanso mede me ntease nso bɛto bi.
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16 Sɛ wonam honhom nko so da Onyankopɔn ase a, ɛbɛyɛ dɛn na obi a ɔka nhyiamu no ho no betumi agye wʼaseda mpae no so se, “Amen” bi? Ɔkwan biara nni hɔ a ɔbɛfa so ate nea woreka no ase.
Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the unlearned say the "Amen" at your giving of thanks, seeing he does not know what you say?
17 Sɛ ɛba saa a, na wʼaseda mpae a worebɔ Onyankopɔn no ye sɛ dɛn ara mpo a, ɛremmoa onipa a ɔka wo ho no wɔ ɔkwan biara so.
For you truly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up.
18 Meda Onyankopɔn ase sɛ meka kasa foforo sen mo a mowɔ ha nyinaa.
I thank God I speak in tongues more than you all.
19 Nanso asafo mu som no, mɛpɛ sɛ mɛka kasa mmaako mmaako anum pɛ a mobɛte ase na moagyina so atumi akyerɛ afoforo ade, sen sɛ mɛka nsɛm mpempem wɔ kasa foforo mu.
However in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.
20 Monnnwene sɛ mmofra, anuanom; nanso sɛ yɛka bɔne ho asɛm de a, monyɛ mo ho sɛ mmofra. Nanso munnwen sɛ mmadwemma.
Brothers, do not be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts be mature.
21 Kyerɛwsɛm no ka se, “Menam nnipa a wɔka kasa foforo so bɛkasa akyerɛ saa nnipa yi. Menam ahɔho anofafa so bɛkasa, nanso wɔrentie me,” Awurade na ose.
In the law it is written, "By people of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people; but even then they will not listen to me," says the Lord.
22 Kasa foforo no yɛ wɔn a wonni gyidi no nsɛnkyerɛnne na Onyame asɛnka no nso yɛ gyidifo nsɛnkyerɛnne.
Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelieving; but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to those who believe.
23 Sɛ asafo no nyinaa hyia na obiara fi ase ka kasa foforo na sɛ ahɔho anaa wɔn a wonni gyidi fra mo mu a, munnye nni sɛ wɔbɛka sɛ moabobɔ adam?
If therefore the whole church is assembled together and all speak in tongues, and unlearned or unbelieving people come in, won't they say that you are crazy?
24 Nanso sɛ mo nyinaa na moka Onyankopɔn asɛm na sɛ obi a onni gyidi anaa onipa foforo bi bɛfra mo mu a, nsɛm a ɔbɛte no bɛma wanu ne ho wɔ ne bɔne ho. Nsɛm a ɔte no bebu no atɛn
But if all prophesy, and someone unbelieving or unlearned comes in, he is reproved by all, and he is judged by all.
25 na ne kokoamsɛm bɛda adi, na obebu nkotodwe asom Onyankopɔn na waka ne bɔne se, “Nokware ni, Onyankopɔn ka yɛn ho wɔ ha!”
And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed. So he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.
26 Anuanom, nsɛm a meka yi kyerɛ dɛn? Sɛ muhyia sɛ moresom a, obi to dwom; obi kyerɛkyerɛ; obi da Onyankopɔn ahintasɛm adi; obi ka kasa foforo na ɔfoforo nso akyerɛkyerɛ ase. Ɛsɛ sɛ biribiara boa asafo no nkɔso.
What is it then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has another language, has an interpretation. Let all things be done to build each other up.
27 Sɛ obi pɛ sɛ ɔka kasa foforo a, aboro so koraa no, ɛsɛ sɛ ɛyɛ nnipa bɛyɛ baanu anaa baasa. Ɔbaako kasa wie a, na ɔfoforo nso akasa, na obi nso akyerɛkyerɛ nsɛm a waka no ase.
If anyone speaks in another language, let it be two, or at the most three, and in turn; and let one interpret.
28 Na sɛ obi nni hɔ a ɔbɛkyerɛ kasa foforo yi ase de a, ɛsɛ sɛ onipa a ɔka saa kasa no yɛ komm wɔ nhyiamu no ase na ɔkasa kyerɛ ne ho ne Onyankopɔn.
But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in the church, and let him speak to himself, and to God.
29 Nnipa baanu anaa baasa a Onyankopɔn asɛm no wɔ wɔn nkyɛn no na ɛsɛ sɛ wɔkasa na wɔn a aka no nso atie adwene ho.
Let the prophets speak, two or three, and let the others discern.
30 Na sɛ obi a ɔte hɔ no nso nya asɛm fi Onyankopɔn nkyɛn a, ɛsɛ sɛ onipa a ɔrekasa no gyae kasa.
But if a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first keep silent.
31 Ɛsɛ sɛ mo nyinaa ka Onyankopɔn asɛm no mmaako mmaako sɛnea mo nyinaa benya osuahu bi ne nkuranhyɛ.
For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 Ɛsɛ sɛ nkɔmhyɛni no pene so gyae ma ɔfoforo nso kasa.
The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets,
33 Efisɛ Onyankopɔn mfrɛɛ yɛn sɛ yɛmmɛyɛ basabasa, na mmom asomdwoepɛfo. Sɛnea ɛte wɔ Onyankopɔn asafo mu no.
for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
34 Ɛsɛ sɛ mmea a wɔwɔ asafo mu no yɛ komm wɔ asafo no nhyiamu ase. Wonni ho kwan sɛ wɔkasa, sɛnea Mose mmara no kyerɛ no.
let the women keep silent in the churches, for it has not been permitted for them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as the Law also says.
35 Sɛ wɔrehwehwɛ biribi mu ahu a, wommisa wɔn kununom wɔ fie. Ɔbea kasa wɔ asafo nhyiamu ase a, ɛyɛ animguase.
If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a woman to chatter in the church.
36 Anaa mofa no sɛ Onyankopɔn asɛm no fi mo nkyɛn? Anaa mo nko ara mo nkyɛn na efi?
What? Was it from you that the word of God went out? Or did it come to you alone?
37 Sɛ obi susuw sɛ ɔyɛ odiyifo anaa ɔwɔ honhom akyɛde a, ɛsɛ sɛ ɔte ne ho ase sɛ, “Nsɛm a merekyerɛw yi, Awurade na ɔhyɛɛ me sɛ menkyerɛw.”
If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.
38 Enti sɛ ontie eyi a, ɛno de munntie ɔno nso.
But if someone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.
39 Enti anuanom, mompere sɛ mobɛhyɛ nkɔm, nanso monnnyae sɛ mobɛka kasa foforo.
Therefore, my brothers, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.
40 Ɛsɛ sɛ moyɛ biribiara wɔ ne kwan so.
Let all things be done decently and in order.
