1 Na Israel nyinaa kɔɔ Dawid nkyɛn wɔ Hebron kɔka kyerɛɛ no se, “Yɛn nyinaa yɛ wʼabusuafo.

And all Israel is gathered to David at Hebron, saying, “Behold, we [are] your bone and your flesh;

2 Mmere tenten bi a atwa mu, mpo bere a Saulo di yɛn so hene no, na wone obi a nokware na wudi Israel anim. Na Awurade, wo Nyankopɔn, aka kyerɛ wo se, ‘Wobɛyɛ oguanhwɛfo ama me nkurɔfo Israel. Wobɛyɛ wɔn sodifo!’”

even in time past, even in Saul’s being king, it is you who are taking out and bringing in Israel, and your God YHWH says to you: You feed My people Israel, and you are leader over My people Israel.”

3 Enti Hebron hɔ, Dawid ne Israel ntuanofo yɛɛ apam wɔ Awurade anim. Wɔsraa no ngo, sii no Israelhene sɛnea Awurade nam Samuel so hyɛɛ ho bɔ no.

And all [the] elderly of Israel come to the king at Hebron, and David makes a covenant with them in Hebron before YHWH, and they anoint David for king over Israel, according to the word of YHWH by the hand of Samuel.

4 Na Dawid ne Israel nyinaa kɔɔ Yerusalem anaa Yebus, sɛnea na wɔfrɛ hɔ kan no, efisɛ Yebusifo na wɔkɔtenaa asase no so kan kyekyeree.

And David goes, and all Israel, to Jerusalem—it [is] Jebus—and the Jebusite [is] there, the inhabitants of the land.

5 Nnipa a wofi Yebus no ka kyerɛɛ Dawid se, “Worentumi mma ha da biara da.” Nanso Dawid faa aban a na ɛwɔ Sion a wɔfrɛ no Dawid Kurow no.

And the inhabitants of Jebus say to David, “You do not come in here”; and David captures the fortress of Zion—it [is] the City of David.

And David says, “Whoever strikes the Jebusite first becomes head and prince”; and Joab son of Zeruiah goes up first and becomes head.

7 Dawid tenaa aban no mu, na ɛno nti na wɔfrɛɛ hɔ Dawid kurow no.

And David dwells in the fortress, therefore they have called it the City of David;

8 Dawid kyekyeree kurow no, trɛw mu fi Milo de twaa ho hyiae, bere a na Yoab nso rekyekyere Yerusalem nkae no.

and he builds the city all around, from Millo, and to the circumference, and Joab restores the rest of the city.

9 Na Dawid tumi yɛɛ kɛse, efisɛ na Asafo Awurade ka ne ho.

And David goes, going on and becoming great, and YHWH of Hosts [is] with him.

10 Eyinom ne Dawid dɔmmarima ntuanofo. Wɔne Israel nyinaa bɔɔ mu, sii gyinae sɛ wɔde Dawid bɛyɛ wɔn so hene sɛnea Awurade ahyɛ bɔ afa Israel ho no.

And these [are] heads of the mighty ones whom David has, who are strengthening themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to cause him to reign, according to the word of YHWH, over Israel.

11 Dawid dɔmmarima no ho nsɛm ni: Nea odi kan no ne Yasobeam a ɔyɛ Hakmonini a na ɔda Baasa no ano sɛ ɔsahene—Baasa no yɛ dɔmmarima akatakyi a na wɔwɔ Dawid asraafo mu. Bere bi ɔde ne peaw kunkum atamfo ahaasa wɔ akodi baako mu.

And this [is] an account of the mighty ones whom David has: Jashobeam son of a Hachmonite [is] head of the thirty; he is lifting up his spear against three hundred—wounded, at one time.

12 Nea ɔto so abien wɔ Baasa no mu no yɛ Dodo babarima Eleasar a ɔyɛ Ahoa aseni.

And after him [is] Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite, he [is] among the three mighty;

13 Bere a Dawid sɔre tiaa Filistifo wɔ Pas-Damim no, na ɔka ne ho. Ɔko no sii wɔ baabi a na ɛyɛ atokofuw nko, na Israel asraafo no guanee.

he has been with David in Pas-Dammim, and the Philistines have been gathered there to battle, and a portion of the field is full of barley, and the people have fled from the face of the Philistines,

14 Nanso Eleasar ne Dawid gyinaa wɔn anan so wɔ afuw no mfimfini, bɔɔ Filistifo no gui. Na Awurade ma wodii nkonim de gyee wɔn.

and they station themselves in the midst of the portion, and deliver it, and strike the Philistines, and YHWH saves [with] a great salvation.

15 Da bi a Dawid wɔ ɔbotan bi a ɛbɛn Adulam ɔbodan ho no, na Filistifo asraafo akyere nsraban wɔ Refaim bon mu. Baasa no a na wɔka Aduasa no a wonim de wɔ Dawid asraafo mu no sian kohyiaa no wɔ hɔ.

And three of the thirty heads go down on the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam, and the host of the Philistines is encamping in the Valley of Rephaim,

and David [is] then in the fortress, and the station of the Philistines [is] then in Beth-Lehem,

17 Dawid fi akɔnnɔ mu kae se, “Ao me kɔn dɔ nsu pa a ɛwɔ abura a ɛwɔ Betlehem no bi; nea ɛbɛn ɔpon ano no bi.”

and David longs and says, “Who gives me water to drink from the well of Beth-Lehem that [is] at the gate!”

18 Enti Baasa no bɔ wuraa Filistifo no mu, kɔsaw abura no mu nsu no bi de brɛɛ Dawid. Nanso Dawid annom. Mmom, ohwie guu Awurade anim

And the three break through the camp of the Philistines, and draw water from the well of Beth-Lehem that [is] at the gate, and carry and bring [it] to David, and David has not been willing to drink it, and pours it out to YHWH,

19 teɛɛ mu se, “Ɛmpare me sɛ mɛnom saa nsu yi. Ɛsom bo sɛ saa mmarima yi a wɔde wɔn ho bɔɔ afɔre kɔsaw brɛɛ me no mogya.” Enti Dawid annom. Eyi yɛ Baasa no mmaninsɛm no bi nhwɛso.

and says, “Far be it from me, by my God, to do this; do I drink the blood of these men with their lives? For with their lives they have brought it”; and he was not willing to drink it; these [things] the three mighty ones did.

20 Yoab nuabarima Abisai na na otua Aduasa no ano. Ɔko baako bi mu no, ɔde ne peaw kunkum atamfo no mu ahaasa. Saa mmaninsɛm yi nti na ogyee din sɛ Baasa no.

And Abishai brother of Joab, he has been head of the three: and he is lifting up his spear against three hundred—wounded, and has a name among three.

21 Abisai na na ne din ahyeta yiye wɔ Aduasa no mu sɛ wɔn sahene, nso na ɔnka Baasa no ho.

Of the three he is more honored than the [other] two, and becomes their head; but he has not come to the [first] three.

22 Na Yehoiada babarima Benaia a ofi Kabseel no nso wɔ hɔ. Na ɔno nso di mmarimasɛm. Ɔyɛɛ bebree a emu baako ne sɛ okunkum Moab akofo akɛse baanu bi. Bere foforo bi nso, ɔtaa gyata maa aboa no kɔtɔɔ amoa mu. Na sukyerɛmma ama fam ayɛ toro nanso ɔkyeree gyata no kum no.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada, son of a man of valor, of great deeds, from Kabzeel: he has struck the two lion-like Moabites, and he has gone down and struck the lion in the midst of the pit, in the day of snow.

And he has struck the man, the Egyptian, a man of [great] measure—five by the cubit—and in the hand of the Egyptian [is] a spear like a weavers’ beam, and he goes down to him with a rod, and violently takes away the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slays him with his own spear.

24 Eyinom na Yehoiada babarima Benaia yɛe, ma ogyee din te sɛ Baasa no.

These [things] Benaiah son of Jehoiada has done, and has a name among the three mighty ones.

25 Wɔhyɛɛ no anuonyam sen nkae a wɔka Aduasa no ho no, nso na ɔmfra Baasa no mu. Na Dawid yɛɛ no ne ho awɛmfo no so sahene.

Of the thirty, behold, he [is] honored, but he has not come to the [first] three, and David sets him over his guard.

26 Nnipa a na wɔka Dawid dɔmmarima no ho ni: Yoab nuabarima Asahel; Dodo babarima Elhanan a ofi Betlehem;

And the mighty ones of the forces [are] Asahel brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo of Beth-Lehem,

27 Samot a ofi Harori; Heles a ofi Pelon;

Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,

28 Ikes babarima Ira a ofi Tekoa; Abieser a ofi Anatot;

Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abi-Ezer the Annethothite,

29 Sibekai a ofi Husa; Salmon a ofi Ahoa;

Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,
