1 Oğlum, sözlerimi yerine getir, Aklında tut buyruklarımı.
My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with you.
2 Buyruklarımı yerine getir ki, yaşayasın. Öğrettiklerimi gözünün bebeği gibi koru.
Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of your eye.
3 Onları yüzük gibi parmaklarına geçir, Yüreğinin levhasına yaz.
Bind them on your fingers, write them on the table of your heart.
4 Bilgeliğe, “Sen kızkardeşimsin”, Akla, “Akrabamsın” de.
Say to wisdom, You are my sister; and call understanding your kinswoman:
5 Zina eden kadından, Yaltaklanan ahlaksız kadından seni koruyacak olan bunlardır.
That they may keep you from the strange woman, from the stranger which flatters with her words.
6 Evimin penceresinden, Kafesin ardından dışarıyı seyrederken,
For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7 Bir sürü toy gencin arasında, Sağduyudan yoksun bir delikanlı çarptı gözüme.
And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8 Akşamüzeri, alaca karanlıkta, Akşam karanlığı çökerken, O kadının oturduğu sokağa saptığını, Onun evine yöneldiğini gördüm.
Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:
10 Derken kadın onu karşıladı, Fahişe kılığıyla sinsice.
And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtle of heart.
11 Yaygaracı, dik başlı biriydi kadın. Bir an bile durmaz evde.
(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12 Kâh sokakta, kâh meydanlardadır. Sokak başlarında pusuya yatar.
Now is she without, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner.)
13 Delikanlıyı tutup öptü, Yüzü kızarmadan ona şöyle dedi:
So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him,
14 “Esenlik kurbanlarımı kesmek zorundaydım, Adak sözümü bugün yerine getirdim.
I have peace offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows.
15 Bunun için seni karşılamaya, seni aramaya çıktım, İşte buldum seni!
Therefore came I forth to meet you, diligently to seek your face, and I have found you.
16 Döşeğime Mısır ipliğinden dokunmuş Renkli örtüler serdim.
I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17 Yatağıma mür, öd Ve tarçın serptim.
I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Haydi gel, sabaha dek doya doya sevişelim, Aşktan zevk alalım.
Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
19 Kocam evde değil, Uzun bir yolculuğa çıktı.
For the manager is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20 Yanına para torbasını aldı, Dolunaydan önce eve dönmeyecek.”
He has taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
21 Onu bir sürü çekici sözlerle baştan çıkardı, Tatlı diliyle peşinden sürükledi.
With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22 Kesimevine götürülen öküz gibi Hemen izledi onu delikanlı; Tuzağa düşen geyik gibi,
He goes after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23 Ciğerini bir ok delene kadar; Kapana koşan bir kuş gibi, Bunun yaşamına mal olacağını bilmeden.
Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and knows not that it is for his life.
24 Çocuklarım, şimdi dinleyin beni, Kulak verin söylediklerime,
Listen to me now therefore, O you children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Sakın o kadına gönül vermeyin, Onun yolundan gitmeyin.
Let not your heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 Yere serdiği bir sürü kurbanı var, Öldürdüğü kişilerin sayısı pek çok.
For she has cast down many wounded: yes, many strong men have been slain by her.
