1 Lea'yla Yakup'un kızı Dina bir gün yöre kadınlarını ziyarete gitti.
And Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had born unto Jacob, went out to look about among the daughters of the land.
2 O bölgenin beyi Hivli Hamor'un oğlu Şekem Dina'yı görünce tutup ırzına geçti.
And Shechem the son of Chamor the Hivite, the prince of the country, saw her; and he took her, and lay with her, and did her violence.
3 Yakup'un kızına gönlünü kaptırdı. Dina'yı sevdi ve ona nazik davrandı.
And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the maiden, and spoke kindly unto the maiden.
4 Babası Hamor'a, “Bu kızı bana eş olarak al” dedi.
And Shechem spoke unto Chamor his father, saying, Get me this girl for wife.
5 Yakup kızı Dina'nın kirletildiğini duyduğunda, oğulları kırda hayvanların başındaydı. Yakup onlar gelinceye kadar konuşmadı.
And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; but his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.
6 Bu arada Şekem'in babası Hamor konuşmak için Yakup'un yanına gitti.
And Chamor the father of Shechem went out unto to Jacob to speak with him.
7 Yakup'un oğulları olayı duyar duymaz kırdan döndüler. Üzüntülü ve çok öfkeliydiler. Çünkü Şekem Yakup'un kızıyla yatarak İsrail'in onurunu kırmıştı. Böyle bir şey olmamalıydı.
And the sons of Jacob came from the field when they heard it, and the men were grieved, and it excited their anger greatly; because he had wrought a disgraceful thing in Israel to lie with the daughter of Jacob, and this ought not to be done.
8 Hamor onlara, “Oğlum Şekem'in gönlü kızınızda” dedi, “Lütfen onu oğluma eş olarak verin.
And Chamor spoke with them, saying, The soul of Shechem my son longeth for your daughter; give her, I pray you, unto him for wife.
9 Bizimle akraba olun. Birbirimize kız verip kız alalım.
And intermarry with us; your daughters ye shall give unto us, and our daughters ye may take unto yourselves.
10 Bizimle birlikte yaşayın. Ülke önünüzde, nereye isterseniz yerleşin, ticaret yapın, mülk edinin.”
And with us shall ye dwell; and the land shall be open before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and acquire possessions therein.
11 Şekem de Dina'nın babasıyla kardeşlerine, “Bana bu iyiliği yapın, ne isterseniz veririm” dedi,
And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brother, Let me but find grace in your eyes, and whatever ye may say unto me, I will give.
12 “Ne kadar başlık ve armağan isterseniz isteyin, dilediğiniz her şeyi vereceğim. Yeter ki, kızı bana eş olarak verin.”
Ask of me ever so much dowry and gift, and I will give, just as ye may say unto me; but give me the maiden for wife.
13 Kızkardeşleri Dina'nın ırzına geçildiği için, Yakup'un oğulları Şekem'le babası Hamor'a aldatıcı bir yanıt verdiler.
And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Chamor his father with cunning, and spoke; because he had defiled Dinah their sister.
14 “Olmaz, kızkardeşimizi sünnetsiz bir adama veremeyiz” dediler, “Bizim için utanç olur.
And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that would be a reproach unto us.
15 Ancak şu koşulla kabul ederiz: Bütün erkekleriniz bizim gibi sünnet olursa,
But on this condition will we consent unto you; if ye will become as we are, that every male of you be circumcised:
16 birbirimize kız verip kız alabiliriz. Sizinle birlikte yaşar, bir halk oluruz.
Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters unto us; and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
17 Eğer kabul etmez, sünnet olmazsanız, kızımızı alır gideriz.”
But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised, then will we take our daughter, and go our way.
18 Bu öneri Hamor'la oğlu Şekem'e iyi göründü.
And their words were pleasing in the eyes of Chamor, and in the eyes of Shechem, the son of Chamor.
19 Ailesinde en saygın kişi olan genç Şekem öneriyi yerine getirmekte gecikmedi. Çünkü Yakup'un kızına aşıktı.
And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter; and he was the most honored of all the house of his father.
20 Hamor'la oğlu Şekem durumu kent halkına bildirmek için kentin kapısına gittiler.
And Chamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and spoke with the men of their city, saying,
21 “Bu adamlar bize dostluk gösteriyor” dediler, “Ülkemizde yaşasınlar, ticaret yapsınlar. Topraklarımız geniş, onlara da yeter, bize de. Birbirimize kız verip kız alabiliriz.
These men are peaceably inclined with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; and the land, behold, it is large enough on all sides before them; their daughters we will take unto us for wives, and our daughters we will give unto them.
22 Yalnız, şu koşulla bizimle birleşmeyi, birlikte yaşamayı kabul ediyorlar: Bizim erkeklerin de kendileri gibi sünnet olmasını istiyorlar.
Only with this condition will the men consent unto us to dwell with us, to become one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.
23 Böylece bütün sürüleri, malları, öbür hayvanları da bizim olur, değil mi? Gelin onlarla anlaşalım, bizimle birlikte yaşasınlar.”
Their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs will they not be ours? only let us consent unto them, that they may dwell with us.
24 Kent kapısından geçen herkes Hamor'la oğlu Şekem'in söylediklerini kabul etti ve kentteki bütün erkekler sünnet oldu.
And unto Chamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and all the males were circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.
25 Üçüncü gün erkekler daha sünnetin acısını çekerken, Yakup'un oğullarından ikisi –Dina'nın kardeşleri Şimon'la Levi– kılıçlarını kuşanıp kuşku uyandırmadan kente girip bütün erkekleri kılıçtan geçirdiler.
And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took each his sword, and came upon the city unresisted and slew all the males.
26 Hamor'la oğlu Şekem'i de öldürdüler. Dina'yı Şekem'in evinden alıp gittiler.
And they slew Chamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword; and they took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.
27 Sonra Yakup'un bütün oğulları cesetleri soyup kenti yağmaladılar. Çünkü kızkardeşlerini kirletmişlerdi.
The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.
28 Kentteki ve kırdaki davarları, sığırları, eşekleri ele geçirdiler.
They took their sheep and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field.
29 Bütün mallarını, çocuklarını, kadınlarını aldılar, evlerindeki her şeyi yağmaladılar.
And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives they took captive, and spoiled; and all that was in the house.
30 Yakup, Şimon'la Levi'ye, “Bu ülkede yaşayan Kenanlılar'la Perizliler'i bana düşman ettiniz, başımı belaya soktunuz” dedi, “Sayıca azız. Eğer birleşir, bana saldırırlarsa, ailemle birlikte yok olurum.”
And Jacob said unto Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me, to cause me to be hated among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and as I am but few in number, they may gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I would be destroyed, I and my house.
31 Şimon'la Levi, “Kızkardeşimize bir fahişe gibi mi davranmalıydı?” diye karşılık verdiler.
And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with a harlot?
