1 Yakup yoluna devam ederek doğu halklarının ülkesine vardı.
Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.
2 Kırda bir kuyu gördü. Kuyunun yanıbaşında üç davar sürüsü yatıyordu. Sürülere o kuyudan su verilirdi. Kuyunun ağzında büyük bir taş vardı.
And he looked, and behold, a well in the field, and lo, there [were] three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone [was] upon the well's mouth.
3 Bütün sürüler oraya toplanınca, çobanlar kuyunun ağzındaki taşı yuvarlar, davarlarını suvardıktan sonra taşı yine yerine, kuyunun ağzına koyarlardı.
And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in its place.
4 Yakup çobanlara, “Kardeşler, nerelisiniz?” diye sordu. Çobanlar, “Harranlı'yız” diye yanıtladılar.
And Jacob said to them, My brethren, whence [are] ye? And they said, We [are] from Haran.
5 Yakup, “Nahor'un torunu Lavan'ı tanıyor musunuz?” diye sordu. “Tanıyoruz” dediler.
And he said to them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? and they said, We know [him].
6 Yakup, “İyi midir?” diye sordu. “İyidir. İşte kızı Rahel davarlarla birlikte geliyor.”
And he said to them, [Is] he well? And they said, [He is] well: and behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.
7 Yakup, “Akşama daha çok var” dedi, “Sürülerin toplanma vakti değil. Davarlarınızı suvarın, götürüp otlatın.”
And he said, Lo, [it is] yet high day, neither [is it] time that the cattle should be collected: water ye the sheep, and go [and] feed [them].
8 Çobanlar, “Bütün sürüler toplanmadan, kuyunun ağzındaki taşı yuvarlamadan olmaz” dediler, “Ancak o zaman davarları suvarabiliriz.”
And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks are collected, and [till] they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.
9 Yakup onlarla konuşurken Rahel babasının davarlarını getirdi. Rahel çobanlık yapıyordu.
And while he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them.
10 Yakup dayısı Lavan'ın kızı Rahel'i ve davarları görünce, gidip kuyunun ağzındaki taşı yuvarladı, dayısının davarlarını suvardı.
And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother; that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
11 Rahel'i öperek hıçkıra hıçkıra ağladı.
And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
12 Rahel'e baba tarafından akraba olduklarını, Rebeka'nın oğlu olduğunu anlattı. Rahel koşup babasına haber verdi.
And Jacob told Rachel that he [was] her father's brother, and that he [was] Rebekah's son; and she ran and told her father.
13 Lavan, yeğeni Yakup'un geldiğini duyunca, onu karşılamaya koştu. Ona sarılıp öptü, evine getirdi. Yakup bütün olanları Lavan'a anlattı.
And it came to pass when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
14 Lavan, “Sen benim etim, kemiğimsin” dedi. Yakup Lavan'ın yanında bir ay kaldıktan sonra,
And Laban said to him, Surely thou [art] my bone and my flesh: and he abode with him the space of a month.
15 Lavan, “Akrabamsın diye benim için bedava mı çalışacaksın?” dedi, “Söyle, ne kadar ücret istiyorsun?”
And Laban said to Jacob, Because thou [art] my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for naught? tell me, what [shall] thy wages [be]?
16 Lavan'ın iki kızı vardı. Büyüğünün adı Lea, küçüğünün adı Rahel'di.
And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder [was] Leah, and the name of the younger [was] Rachel.
17 Lea'nın gözleri alımlıydı, Rahel ise boyu bosu yerinde, güzel bir kızdı.
Leah [was] tender-eyed, but Rachel was beautiful and well-favored.
18 Yakup Rahel'e aşıktı. Lavan'a, “Küçük kızın Rahel için sana yedi yıl hizmet ederim” dedi.
And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.
19 Lavan, “Onu sana vermek başkasına vermekten daha iyidir” dedi, “Yanımda kal.”
And Laban said, [It is] better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.
20 Yakup Rahel için yedi yıl çalıştı. Rahel'i sevdiği için, yedi yıl ona birkaç gün gibi geldi.
And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed to him [but] a few days, for the love he had to her.
21 Lavan'a, “Zaman doldu, kızını ver, evleneyim” dedi.
And Jacob said to Laban, Give [me] my wife (for my days are fulfilled) that I may go in to her.
22 Lavan bütün yöre halkını toplayıp bir şölen verdi.
And Laban assembled all the men of the place, and made a feast.
23 Gece kızı Lea'yı Yakup'a götürdü. Yakup onunla yattı.
And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in to her.
24 Lavan cariyesi Zilpa'yı kızı Lea'nın hizmetine verdi.
And Laban gave to his daughter Leah, Zilpah his maid [for] a handmaid.
25 Sabah olunca Yakup bir de baktı ki, yanındaki Lea! Lavan'a, “Nedir bana bu yaptığın?” dedi, “Ben Rahel için yanında çalışmadım mı? Niçin beni aldattın?”
And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it [was] Leah: and he said to Laban, What [is] this thou hast done to me? did I not serve with thee for Rachel? why then hast thou deceived me?
26 Lavan, “Bizim buralarda adettir. Büyük kız dururken küçük kız evlendirilmez” dedi,
And Laban said, it must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the first-born.
27 “Bu bir haftayı tamamla, Rahel'i de sana veririz. Yalnız ona karşılık yedi yıl daha yanımda çalışacaksın.”
Fulfill her week, and we will give thee this also, for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.
28 Yakup kabul etti. Lea'yla bir hafta geçirdi. Sonra Lavan kızı Rahel'i de ona verdi.
And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel, his daughter, for a wife also.
29 Cariyesi Bilha'yı Rahel'in hizmetine verdi.
And Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter, Bilhah, his handmaid, to be her maid.
30 Yakup Rahel'le de yattı. Onu Lea'dan çok sevdi. Lavan'a yedi yıl daha hizmet etti.
And he went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
31 RAB Lea'nın sevilmediğini görünce, çocuk sahibi olmasını sağladı. Oysa Rahel kısırdı.
And when the LORD saw that Leah [was] hated, he made her fruitful: but Rachel [was] barren.
32 Lea hamile kalıp bir erkek çocuk doğurdu. Adını Ruben koydu. “Çünkü RAB mutsuzluğumu gördü” dedi, “Kuşkusuz artık kocam beni sever.”
And Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.
33 Yine hamile kaldı ve bir erkek çocuk daha doğurdu. “RAB sevilmediğimi duyduğu için bana bu çocuğu verdi” diyerek adını Şimon koydu.
And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I [was] hated, he hath therefore given me this [son] also: and she called his name Simeon.
34 Üçüncü kez hamile kalıp bir daha erkek çocuk doğurdu. “Artık kocam bana bağlanacak” dedi, “Çünkü ona üç erkek çocuk doğurdum.” Onun için çocuğa Levi adı verildi.
And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said, Now this time will my husband adhere to me, because I have borne him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.
35 Dördüncü kez hamile kaldı ve bir erkek çocuk daha doğurdu. “Bu kez RAB'be övgüler sunacağım” dedi. Onun için çocuğa Yahuda adını verdi. Bir süre doğum yapmadı.
And she conceived again, and bore a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah, and left bearing.
