1 Başlangıçta dünyadaki bütün insanlar aynı dili konuşur, aynı sözleri kullanırlardı.
The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
2 Doğuya göçerlerken Şinar bölgesinde bir ova bulup oraya yerleştiler.
As they traveled east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there.
3 Birbirlerine, “Gelin, tuğla yapıp iyice pişirelim” dediler. Taş yerine tuğla, harç yerine zift kullandılar.
They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.
4 Sonra, “Kendimize bir kent kuralım” dediler, “Göklere erişecek bir kule dikip ün salalım. Böylece yeryüzüne dağılmayız.”
They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”
5 RAB insanların yaptığı kentle kuleyi görmek için aşağıya indi.
Adonai came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.
6 “Tek bir halk olup aynı dili konuşarak bunu yapmaya başladıklarına göre, düşündüklerini gerçekleştirecek, hiçbir engel tanımayacaklar” dedi,
Adonai said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.
7 “Gelin, aşağı inip dillerini karıştıralım ki, birbirlerini anlamasınlar.”
Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not sh'ma ·hear understand obey· one another’s speech.”
8 Böylece RAB onları yeryüzüne dağıtarak kentin yapımını durdurdu.
So Adonai scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.
9 Bu nedenle kente Babil adı verildi. Çünkü RAB bütün insanların dilini orada karıştırmış ve onları yeryüzünün dört bucağına dağıtmıştı.
Therefore its name was called Babel [Confusion], because there Adonai confused the language of all the earth. From there, Adonai scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.
10 Sam'ın soyunun öyküsü: Tufandan iki yıl sonra Sam 100 yaşındayken oğlu Arpakşat doğdu.
This is the history of the generations of Shem [Name]: Shem [Name] was one hundred years old when he became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood.
11 Arpakşat'ın doğumundan sonra Sam 500 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
Shem [Name] lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
12 Arpakşat 35 yaşındayken oğlu Şelah doğdu.
Arpachshad lived thirty-five years and became the father of Shelah.
13 Şelah'ın doğumundan sonra Arpakşat 403 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
Arpachshad lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Shelah, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
14 Şelah 30 yaşındayken oğlu Ever doğdu.
Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber.
15 Ever'in doğumundan sonra Şelah 403 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
Shelah lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Eber, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
16 Ever 34 yaşındayken oğlu Pelek doğdu.
Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg.
17 Pelek'in doğumundan sonra Ever 430 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
Eber lived four hundred thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
18 Pelek 30 yaşındayken oğlu Reu doğdu.
Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu.
19 Reu'nun doğumundan sonra Pelek 209 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
Peleg lived two hundred nine years after he became the father of Reu, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
20 Reu 32 yaşındayken oğlu Seruk doğdu.
Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug.
21 Seruk'un doğumundan sonra Reu 207 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
Reu lived two hundred seven years after he became the father of Serug, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
22 Seruk 30 yaşındayken oğlu Nahor doğdu.
Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor.
23 Nahor'un doğumundan sonra Seruk 200 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
24 Nahor 29 yaşındayken oğlu Terah doğdu.
Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah.
25 Terah'ın doğumundan sonra Nahor 119 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
Nahor lived one hundred nineteen years after he became the father of Terah, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
26 Yetmiş yaşından sonra Terah'ın Avram, Nahor ve Haran adlı oğulları oldu.
Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Avram [Exalted father], Nahor, and Haran [Mountaineer].
27 Terah soyunun öyküsü: Terah Avram, Nahor ve Haran'ın babasıydı. Haran'ın Lut adlı bir oğlu oldu.
Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Avram [Exalted father], Nahor, and Haran [Mountaineer]. Haran [Mountaineer] became the father of Lot [Veil, Covering].
28 Haran, babası Terah henüz sağken, doğduğu ülkede, Kildaniler'in Ur Kenti'nde öldü.
Haran [Mountaineer] died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 Avram'la Nahor evlendiler. Avram'ın karısının adı Saray, Nahor'unkinin adı Milka'ydı. Milka Yiska'nın babası Haran'ın kızıydı.
Avram [Exalted father] and Nahor married wives. The name of Avram [Exalted father]’s wife was Sarai [Mockery], and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran [Mountaineer] who was also the father of Iscah.
30 Saray kısırdı, çocuğu olmuyordu.
Sarai [Mockery] was barren. She had no child.
31 Terah, oğlu Avram'ı, Haran'ın oğlu olan torunu Lut'u ve Avram'ın karısı olan gelini Saray'ı yanına aldı. Kenan ülkesine gitmek üzere Kildaniler'in Ur Kenti'nden ayrıldılar. Harran'a gidip oraya yerleştiler.
Terah took Avram [Exalted father] his son, Lot [Veil, Covering] the son of Haran [Mountaineer], his son’s son, and Sarai [Mockery] his daughter-in-law, his son Avram [Exalted father]’s wife. They went from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan [Humbled]. They came to Haran [Mountaineer] and lived there.
32 Terah iki yüz beş yıl yaşadıktan sonra Harran'da öldü.
The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran [Mountaineer].
