1 Sizler bir zamanlar içinde yaşadığınız suçlardan ve günahlardan ötürü ölüydünüz.
Even you, being dead to offenses and sins,
2 Bu dünyanın gidişine ve havadaki hükümranlığın egemenine, yani söz dinlemeyen insanlarda şimdi etkin olan ruha uymaktaydınız. (aiōn g165)
in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is actively at work in the sons of disobedience: (aiōn g165)
3 Bir zamanlar hepimiz böyle insanların arasında, benliğin ve aklın isteklerini yerine getirerek benliğimizin tutkularına göre yaşıyorduk. Doğal olarak ötekiler gibi biz de gazap çocuklarıydık.
among whom also we all formerly lived in the desires of our flesh, doing the will of the flesh and of the feelings, and were by nature children of wrath, even as others:
4 Ama merhameti bol olan Tanrı bizi çok sevdiği için,
but God, being rich in mercy, on account of his great love with which he loved us,
5 suçlarımızdan ötürü ölü olduğumuz halde, bizi Mesih'le birlikte yaşama kavuşturdu. O'nun lütfuyla kurtuldunuz.
made alive with Christ even us, being dead to our offenses, (by grace you are saved, )
6 Tanrı bizi Mesih İsa'da, Mesih'le birlikte diriltip göksel yerlerde oturttu.
and raised us up, and made us sit together in heavenly places, in Christ Jesus;
7 Bunu, Mesih İsa'da bize gösterdiği iyilikle, lütfunun sonsuz zenginliğini gelecek çağlarda sergilemek için yaptı. (aiōn g165)
that he might show, in the ages to come, the exceeding riches of his grace by his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. (aiōn g165)
8 İman yoluyla, lütufla kurtuldunuz. Bu sizin başarınız değil, Tanrı'nın armağanıdır.
For by grace you have been saved through the faith; and this matter is not of yourselves; it is the gift of God:
9 Kimsenin övünmemesi için iyi işlerin ödülü değildir.
not by works, lest any one should boast.
10 Çünkü biz Tanrı'nın yapıtıyız, O'nun önceden hazırladığı iyi işleri yapmak üzere Mesih İsa'da yaratıldık.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God before prepared, that we should walk in them.
11 Bunun için, öteki uluslardan doğan sizler bir zamanlar ne olduğunuzu anımsayın: Bedende elle yapılmış sünnete sahip olup “sünnetli” diye anılanların “sünnetsiz” dedikleri sizler,
For which reason, remember that you were formerly Gen tiles, by natural descent, and that you are called Uncircumcision by the Circumcision; so called, from a mark made in the flesh by hands;
12 o zaman Mesihsiz, İsrail'de vatandaşlıktan yoksun, vaade dayanan antlaşmalara yabancı, dünyada umutsuz ve tanrısızdınız.
that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the community of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope, and having no God in the world:
13 Ama bir zamanlar uzak olan sizler, şimdi Mesih İsa'da Mesih'in kanı sayesinde yakın kılındınız.
but now, in Christ Jesus, you, who were formerly far off, have become near, by the blood of the Christ.
14 Çünkü Mesih'in kendisi barışımızdır. Kutsal Yasa'yı, buyrukları ve kurallarıyla birlikte etkisiz kılarak iki topluluğu birleştirdi, aradaki engel duvarını, yani düşmanlığı kendi bedeninde yıktı. Amacı bu iki topluluktan kendisinde yeni bir insan yaratarak esenliği sağlamak, düşmanlığı çarmıhta öldürmek ve çarmıh aracılığıyla bir bedende iki topluluğu Tanrı'yla barıştırmaktı.
For he is our peace, who has made both parties one, and broken down the partition wall that separated us,
having abolished, in his flesh, the cause of enmity, the law of commandments in ordinances, that he might, by himself, form the two into one new man, thus making peace;
and that he might reconcile both, in one body, to God, through the cross, having by it put to death the cause of enmity;
17 O gelip hem uzakta olan sizlere hem de yakındakilere esenliği müjdeledi.
and having come, he preached peace to you who were far off, and to those who were near:
18 O'nun aracılığıyla hepimiz tek Ruh'ta Baba'nın huzuruna çıkabiliriz.
for, through him, we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
19 Böylece artık yabancı ve garip değil, kutsallarla birlikte yurttaş ve Tanrı'nın ev halkısınız.
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God,
20 Elçilerle peygamberlerden oluşan temel üzerine inşa edildiniz. Köşe taşı Mesih İsa'nın kendisidir.
having been builded upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner-stone,
21 Bütün yapı Rab'be ait kutsal bir tapınak olmak üzere O'nda kenetlenip yükseliyor.
in whom the whole building, compactly fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord;
22 Siz de Ruh aracılığıyla Tanrı'nın konutu olmak üzere hep birlikte Mesih'te inşa ediliyorsunuz.
in whom you also are builded together, for a dwelling-place of God by his Spirit.
