Daniel 1
1 Yahuda Kralı Yehoyakim'in krallığının üçüncü yılında Babil Kralı Nebukadnessar Yeruşalim'in üzerine yürüyüp kenti kuşattı.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, against Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 Rab, Yahuda Kralı Yehoyakim'i ve Tanrı'nın Tapınağı'ndaki bazı eşyaları Nebukadnessar'ın eline teslim etti. Nebukadnessar bunları Şinar ülkesine götürüp kendi ilahının tapınağının hazinesine yerleştirdi.
And the Lord gave Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.
3 Kral İsrailliler arasından kral soyundan gelme ya da soylu bazı gençlerin seçilip saraya getirilmesi için saray görevlilerinin yöneticisi Aşpenaz'a buyruk verdi. Bu gençler kusursuz, yakışıklı, her konuda bilge, bilgili, öğrenmeye yetenekli, sarayda görev almaya uygun nitelikte kişiler olmalıydı. Aşpenaz onlara Kildaniler'in dilini ve yazısını öğretecekti.
And the king commanded Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the sons of Israel of the king's race, and of the princes,
youths in whom was no blemish, and well favored, and skilful in all wisdom, and having knowledge and intelligence and strength, to stand as servants in the king's palace, and be taught the writing and the language of the Chaldaeans.
5 Kral bu gençler için kendi sofrasından gündelik yiyecek ve şarap ayırdı. Üç yıl eğitildikten sonra gençler kralın önüne çıkarılacaklardı.
And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank; so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand as servants before the king.
6 Seçilen gençler arasında Yahudalılar'dan Daniel, Hananya, Mişael ve Azarya da vardı.
Now among these were, of the sons of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 Saray görevlilerinin yöneticisi onlara yeni adlar koydu. Daniel'e Belteşassar, Hananya'ya Şadrak, Mişael'e Meşak, Azarya'ya Abed-Nego adını verdi.
And the prince of the eunuchs gave them other names. To Daniel he gave the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
8 Daniel dinsel açıdan kendini kirletmemek için kralın onlara ayırdığı yemeklerden yemeyi de şaraptan içmeyi de istemedi. Bu yoldan kendini kirletmemek için saray görevlilerinin yöneticisine ricada bulundu.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
9 Tanrı saray görevlileri yöneticisinin Daniel'e sevgiyle, sevecenlikle davranmasını sağladı.
And God gave Daniel favor and kindness from the prince of the eunuchs.
10 Adam Daniel'e, “Yiyecek içecek payınızı ayıran efendimiz kraldan korkarım” dedi, “Eğer yüzünüzü yaşıtınız olan öbür gençlerin yüzünden daha solgun görürse, başımı tehlikeye sokmuş olursunuz.”
And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink; for he might see your faces in worse condition than the youths of your age; then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
11 Daniel, saray görevlileri yöneticisinin Hananya, Mişael, Azarya ve kendisinin başına koyduğu gözeticiye gidip, “Lütfen kullarınıza on gün olanak tanıyın” dedi, “Bu on gün içinde bize yemek için sebze, içmek için de su verilsin.
Then said Daniel to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
Try thy servants ten days, and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
13 Sonra yüzlerimizi kralın yemeklerini yiyen öbür gençlerin yüzleriyle kıyaslayın ve kullarınıza gördüğünüze göre davranın.”
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenances of the youths that eat of the portion of the king's meat; and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
14 Gözetici bu isteği kabul etti ve onlara on gün deneme fırsatı verdi.
And he consented to them in this matter, and tried them ten days.
15 On gün sonra dört genç kralın yemeklerini yiyen öbür gençlerin hepsinden daha sağlıklı, daha iyi beslenmiş görünüyordu.
And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the portion of the king's meat.
16 Böylece gözetici o günden sonra kralın gençler için ayırdığı yemekle şarabı kaldırdı ve onlara sebze vermeyi sürdürdü.
So the steward took away the portion of their meat, and the wine which they should drink, and gave them pulse.
17 Tanrı bu dört gence her konuda bilgi, beceri, bilgelik verdi. Daniel her çeşit görümü ve düşü yorumlayabiliyordu.
And God gave these four youths knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 Kralın belirlediği süre tamamlanınca, saray görevlileri yöneticisi gençleri Nebukadnessar'a götürdü.
And at the end of the days, when the king had commanded him to bring them before him, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Kral onlarla görüştü; içlerinde Daniel, Hananya, Mişael, Azarya gibisi yoktu. Bu yüzden kralın hizmetine onlar atandı.
And the king conversed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood as servants before the king.
20 Kral bilgelik ve anlayışla ilgili konularda onları sınadı ve dört genci ülkesindeki bütün sihirbazlardan, falcılardan on kat üstün buldu.
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the scribes and magicians that were in all his realm.
21 Kral Koreş'in krallığının birinci yılına dek Daniel sarayda kaldı.
And Daniel lived even to the first year of Cyrus the king.
