1 Bu nedenle her kötülüğü, hileyi, ikiyüzlülüğü, kıskançlığı ve bütün iftiraları üzerinizden sıyırıp atın.
Therefore, laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envyings, and all evil speakings,
2 Yeni doğmuş bebekler gibi, hilesiz sütü andıran Tanrı sözünü özleyin ki, bununla beslenip büyüyerek kurtuluşa erişesiniz.
as new-born babes, earnestly desire the pure spiritual milk, that you may grow by it,
3 Çünkü Rab'bin iyiliğini tattınız.
if; indeed, you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 İnsanlarca reddedilmiş, ama Tanrı'ya göre seçkin ve değerli olan diri taşa, Rab'be gelin.
Coming to him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by man, but in the sight of God, chosen and precious,
5 O sizi diri taşlar olarak ruhsal bir tapınağın yapımında kullansın. Böylelikle, İsa Mesih aracılığıyla Tanrı'nın beğenisini kazanan ruhsal kurbanlar sunmak üzere kutsal bir kâhinler topluluğu olursunuz.
you, also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, that you may offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6 Çünkü Kutsal Yazı'da şöyle deniyor: “İşte, Siyon'a bir taş, Seçkin, değerli bir köşe taşı koyuyorum. O'na iman eden hiç utandırılmayacak.”
For it is contained in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner-stone, chosen, precious; and he that believes on him shall not be ashamed.
7 İman eden sizler için bu taş değerlidir. Ama imansızlar için, “Yapıcıların reddettiği taş Köşenin baş taşı,” “Sürçme taşı ve tökezleme kayası oldu.” İmansızlar Tanrı'nın sözünü dinlemedikleri için sürçerler. Zaten sürçmek üzere belirlenmişlerdir.
To you, then, who believe, is this preciousness: but the stone which the builders rejected, has become the head of the corner,
and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense to the disobedient, who stumble at the word because they are disobedient, to which stumbling they were also appointed.
9 Ama siz seçilmiş soy, Kral'ın kâhinleri, kutsal ulus, Tanrı'nın öz halkısınız. Sizi karanlıktan şaşılası ışığına çağıran Tanrı'nın erdemlerini duyurmak için seçildiniz.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people, that you should show forth the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his wonderful light:
10 Bir zamanlar halk değildiniz, ama şimdi Tanrı'nın halkısınız. Bir zamanlar merhamete erişmemiştiniz, şimdiyse merhamete eriştiniz.
who formerly were not a people, but now are the people of God; who had not received mercy, but now have received mercy.
11 Sevgili kardeşler, size yalvarırım, cana karşı savaşan benliğin tutkularından kaçının. Çünkü bu dünyada yabancı ve konuksunuz.
Beloved, I beseech you, as strangers and sojourners, that you keep yourselves from fleshly desires, which war against the soul,
12 İnanmayanlar arasında olumlu bir yaşam sürün. Öyle ki, kötülük yapanlarmışsınız gibi size iftira etseler de, iyi işlerinizi görerek Tanrı'yı, kendilerine yaklaştığı gün yüceltsinler.
maintaining an honorable mode of life am one the Gentiles, that, inasmuch as they speak against you as evil-doers, they may, on account of your good works which they witness, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13 İnsanlar arasında yetkili kılınmış her kuruma –gerek her şeyin üstünde olan krala gerekse kötülük yapanların cezalandırılması, iyilik edenlerin onurlandırılması için kral tarafından gönderilen valilere– Rab adına bağımlı olun.
Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man, for the Lord’s sake; whether it be to the king, as supreme ruler,
or to governors, as those sent by him for the punishment of evil-doers, and for the praise of those who do well.
15 Çünkü Tanrı'nın isteği, iyilik yaparak akılsızların bilgisizliğini susturmanızdır.
For such is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men;
16 Özgür insanlar olarak yaşayın, ancak özgürlüğünüzü kötülük yapmak için bahane etmeyin. Tanrı'nın kulları olarak yaşayın.
as being free, and yet not using your freedom as a cloak for malice, but as servants of God.
17 Herkese saygı gösterin. İmanlı kardeşlerinizi sevin, Tanrı'dan korkun, krala saygı gösterin.
Honor all men; love the brotherhood; reverence God; honor the king.
18 Ey hizmetkârlar, efendilerinizin yalnız iyi ve yumuşak huylu olanlarına değil, ters huylu olanlarına da tam bir saygıyla bağımlı olun.
Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the perverse.
19 Haksız yere acı çeken kişi, Tanrı bilinciyle acıya katlanırsa, Tanrı'yı hoşnut eder.
For this is praiseworthy, if any one, on account of conscience toward God, endure sorrows, suffering unjustly.
20 Çünkü günah işleyip dövüldüğünüzde dayanırsanız, bunda övülecek ne var? Ama iyilik edip acı çektiğinizde dayanırsanız, Tanrı'yı hoşnut edersiniz.
For what praise is due, if, when you are punished for your faults, you endure it patiently? But if, when you do well, and suffer for it, you endure it patiently, this is praiseworthy in the sight of God.
21 Nitekim bunun için çağrıldınız. Mesih, izinden gidesiniz diye uğrunuza acı çekerek size örnek oldu.
To this, indeed, you have been called; because even Christ suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you should follow his footsteps.
22 “O günah işlemedi, ağzından hileli söz çıkmadı.”
He did no sin, nor was guile found in his mouth.
23 Kendisine sövüldüğünde sövgüyle karşılık vermedi, acı çektiğinde kimseyi tehdit etmedi; davasını, adaletle yargılayan Tanrı'ya bıraktı.
When he was reviled, he did not revile again; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously.
24 Bizler günah karşısında ölelim, doğruluk uğruna yaşayalım diye, günahlarımızı çarmıhta kendi bedeninde yüklendi. O'nun yaralarıyla şifa buldunuz.
He himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. By his stripes you were healed.
25 Çünkü yolunu şaşırmış koyunlar gibiydiniz, şimdiyse canlarınızın Çobanı'na ve Gözetmeni'ne döndünüz.
For you were like sheep that had gone astray; but now you have returned to the shepherd and bishop of your souls.
