< Saame 89 >
1 Ko e Saame akonaki ʻa Itani ʻi he faʻahinga ʻo Esela. Te u hiva ʻaki ʻae ngaahi ʻaloʻofa ʻa Sihova ʻo taʻengata: te u fakaʻilo ʻaki hoku ngutu ʻa hoʻo moʻoni ki he toʻutangata kotoa pē.
A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing evermore of the love of the Lord, proclaiming to all generations his faithfulness.
2 He naʻaku pehē, “ʻE fokotuʻumaʻu pē ʻa e ʻaloʻofa ʻo taʻengata: ko hoʻo moʻoni te ke fakatuʻumaʻu ʻi he ngaahi langi.”
For your love you did promise to build up forever, your faithfulness firm as the heavens themselves.
3 Kuo u fai ʻae fuakava mo ʻeku fili, kuo u fuakava ki heʻeku tamaioʻeiki ko Tevita.
‘I have made with my chosen a covenant, and sworn to David my servant,
4 “Te u fakatuʻumaʻu ho hako ʻo taʻengata, te u fokotuʻu ho puleʻanga ki he toʻutangata kotoa pē.” (Sila)
to establish his seed forever, and to build up his throne to all ages.’ (Selah)
5 Pea ʻe fakamālō ʻe he ngaahi langi ki hoʻo ngaahi ngāue fakaofo, ʻE Sihova: mo hoʻo moʻoni foki ʻi he fakataha ʻoe kau māʻoniʻoni.
Then the holy assembly in heaven praised your marvellous faithfulness, Lord.
6 He ko hai ʻi he langi ʻe fakatatau ia kia Sihova? Ko hai ʻi he ngaahi foha ʻoe mālohi ʻe faʻa fakatatau kia Sihova?
For who in the skies may compare with the Lord? Who is like the Lord among the gods?
7 ʻOku totonu ke manavahē lahi ki he ʻOtua ʻi he fakataha ʻoe kau māʻoniʻoni, pea ke fakaʻapaʻapa ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku tuʻu takatakai kiate ia.
A God to be feared in the holy assembly, awful and great above all who are round him.
8 ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko hai ʻoku tatau mo koe ko Sihova māfimafi? Pea ko hoʻo moʻoni ʻoku kāpui koe.
O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty as you? Your strength and faithfulness, Lord, surround you.
9 ʻOku ke puleʻi ʻae ngaue mālohi ʻoe tahi: ʻoka hou hono ngaahi peau, ʻoku ke fakatofukī ia.
You are the Lord of the raging sea: when its waves surge, it is you who still them.
10 Kuo ke fesiʻi ʻa Lehapi ke lailai, ʻo hangē ha taha kuo tāmateʻi; kuo fakahēʻi ho ngaahi fili ʻaki ho nima mālohi.
It was you who did pierce and crush Rahab in pieces, and scatter your foes by your mighty arm.
11 ʻOku ʻoʻou ʻae ngaahi langi, pea ʻoku ʻoʻou foki mo e fonua: ko māmani mo hono fonu ʻo ia kuo ke fakatuʻumaʻu ia.
Yours are the heavens, yours also the earth, the world and its fulness, it’s you who did found them.
12 Kuo ke ngaohi ʻae potu tokelau mo e potu tonga: ko Tepoa mo Heamoni ʻe fiefia ʻi ho huafa.
The north and the south, it’s you have created them; Tabor and Hermon shout praise to your name.
13 ʻOku ʻiate koe ʻae nima māfimafi ʻoku mālohi ho nima, pea māʻolunga ho nima toʻomataʻu.
You have an arm with the might of a hero; strong is your hand, high uplifted your right hand.
14 Ko e angatonu mo e fakamaau ko e tuʻunga ia ʻo ho ʻafioʻanga: ʻe muʻomuʻa ʻi ho ʻao ʻae ʻaloʻofa mo e moʻoni.
Justice and right are the base of your throne, kindness and faithfulness ever attend you.
15 ʻOku monūʻia ʻae kakai ʻoku nau ʻiloʻi ʻae ongoongo fakafiefia: tenau ʻaʻeva, ʻE Sihova, ʻi he maama ʻo ho fofonga.
Happy the people who know the glad shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face.
16 Te nau fiefia ʻi ho huafa ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē: pea ʻi hoʻo māʻoniʻoni ʻe hakeakiʻi ai ʻakinautolu.
They exult in your name all the day, and your righteousness they extol.
17 He ko koe ko e vikivikiʻanga ʻo honau mālohi: pea ʻi hoʻo ʻofa ʻe hiki ai ki ʻolunga honau nifo.
For you are our strength and our pride. Your favour will lift us to honour.
18 He ko homau hūfanga ʻa Sihova; pea ko e tokotaha māʻoniʻoni ʻo ʻIsileli ko homau tuʻi.
For the holy Lord of Israel keeps our defender and king.
19 Pea naʻa ke toki folofola ʻi he meʻa ha mai ki hoʻo tokotaha māʻoniʻoni, ʻo pehē, “Kuo u hilifaki ʻae tokoni ki ha tokotaha ʻoku mālohi; kuo u fakahikihiki ʻae tokotaha kuo fili mei he kakai.
In a vision of old you did speak in this way to the one whom you loved: ‘A crown I have set on the hero I chose to be over the people
20 Kuo u ʻiloʻi ʻa Tevita ko ʻeku tamaioʻeiki; pea kuo u tākai ʻaki ia ʻa ʻeku lolo māʻoniʻoni:
‘I found my servant David, and anointed with holy oil.
21 ʻE tuʻumaʻu hoku nima mo ia: ko hoku nima foki ʻe fakamālohiʻi ia.
My hand will be with him forever, my arm will give him strength.
22 ʻE ʻikai fai fakamālohi kiate ia ʻe he fili; pe fakamamahiʻi ia ʻe he foha ʻoe angakovi.
‘No enemy will dare to assail him, nor the wicked to oppress him;
23 Pea te u taaʻi hifo hono ngaahi fili ʻi hono ʻao, pea tautea ʻakinautolu ʻoku fehiʻa kiate ia.
but his foes I will shatter before him, I will strike down those who hate him.
24 Ka ʻe ʻiate ia ʻa ʻeku moʻoni mo ʻeku ʻaloʻofa: pea ʻi hoku huafa ʻe hiki ki ʻolunga ai ʻa hono nifo.
‘My loyal love shall attend him, and I will lift him to honour.
25 Te u ʻai foki hono nima ki he tahi, mo hono nima toʻomataʻu ki he ngaahi vaitafe.
I will set his hand on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers.
26 ʻE tangi ia kiate au, ‘Ko koe ko ʻeku Tamai, ko hoku ʻOtua, mo e maka ʻo hoku fakamoʻui.’
‘As for him, he will call me “My father, my God, and my rock of salvation.”
27 Pea te u ngaohi foki ia ko hoku ʻuluaki foha, ʻe māʻolunga lahi ia ʻi he ngaahi tuʻi ʻo māmani.
And I will make him my firstborn, highest of kings on the earth.
28 Te u tuku ʻeku ʻaloʻofa maʻana ʻo taʻengata, pea ʻe tuʻumaʻu ʻeku fuakava mo ia.
‘My love will I keep for him ever, my covenant with him shall stand fast.
29 Te u ngaohi foki hono hako kenau tolonga ʻo taʻengata, mo hono nofoʻa ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi ʻaho ʻoe langi.
His line will I make everlasting, and his throne as the days of the heavens.
30 “Kapau ʻe liʻaki ʻeku akonaki ʻe heʻene fānau, ʻo ʻikai ʻaʻeva ʻi heʻeku ngaahi fakamaau;
‘If his children forsake my law, and walk not as I have ordained;
31 Kapau tenau maumauʻi ʻeku ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, pea ʻikai tauhi ʻeku ngaahi fekau;
if they profane my statutes, and do not keep my commandments;
32 Pea te u toki ʻaʻahi ʻenau ngaahi talangataʻa ʻaki ʻae meʻa kini, mo ʻenau hia ʻaki ʻae ngaahi tā.
‘I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with scourges.
33 Ka ʻe ʻikai te u hiki ʻaupito ʻeku manavaʻofa ʻiate ia, pe tuku taʻehoko ʻa ʻeku moʻoni.
But my love will I not take from him, nor will I belie my faithfulness.
34 ʻE ʻikai te u liʻaki ʻeku fuakava, pe fakakehe ʻae meʻa kuo ʻalu atu ʻi hoku loungutu.
‘I will not profane my covenant by changing the word that has passed my lips.
35 “Kuo u fuakava tuʻo taha ʻi heʻeku māʻoniʻoni ʻe ʻikai te u loi kia Tevita.
Once have I solemnly sworn and I would not lie to David,
36 ʻE tolonga ʻene fānau ʻo taʻengata, mo hono nofoʻa ʻo hangē ko e laʻā ʻi hoku ʻao.
‘that his line should endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me,
37 ʻE fakatuʻumaʻu ia ke taʻengata ʻo hangē ko e māhina, pea hangē ko e fakamoʻoni ʻi he langi.” (Sila)
firm as the moon which for ever and ever is fixed in the sky.’ (Selah)
38 Ka kuo liʻaki mo fākaliliʻa, mo ke houhau kiate ia naʻa ke pani.
But you have cast off in contempt, and been furious with your anointed.
39 Kuo ke fakataʻeʻaongaʻi ʻae fuakava ʻa hoʻo tamaioʻeiki: kuo ke fakakoviʻi hono tatā ʻi hoʻo lī ia ki he kelekele.
You have spurned the covenant with your servant, and his sacred crown dashed to the ground.
40 Kuo ke maumauʻi hifo hono ngaahi ʻā kotoa pē; kuo ke fakaʻauha hono ngaahi potu mālohi.
You have broken down all his walls, and laid his bulwarks in ruins.
41 Ko kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku ʻalu ʻi he hala ʻoku nau kaihaʻa ʻiate ia: ko e manukiʻanga ia ʻo hono ngaahi kaungāʻapi.
All who pass on their way despoil him, the scorn of his neighbours is he now.
42 Kuo ke hiki hake ʻae nima toʻomataʻu ʻo hono ngaahi fili; kuo ke fakafiefiaʻi ʻa hono ngaahi fili kotoa pē.
You have given his foes the victory, and made all his enemies glad.
43 Kuo ke liliu foki ʻae mata ʻo ʻene heletā, pea ʻe ʻikai te ke ngaohi ia ke tuʻu ʻi he tau.
You have turned back his sword from the foe, you did not lift him up in the battle.
44 Kuo ke fakaʻosi hono nāunau, pea lī hono nofoʻa ki he kelekele.
The sceptre you took from his hand, and his throne you did hurl to the ground.
45 Kuo ke fakafuonounou ʻae ngaahi ʻaho ʻo ʻene talavou: kuo ke ʻufiʻufi ʻaki ia ʻae mā. (Sila)
You have shortened the days of his youth, and covered him with shame. (Selah)
46 ʻE Sihova, ʻe fēfē hono fuoloa? Te ke fakafufū koe ʻo taʻengata? ʻE vela ho houhau ʻo hangē ko e afi?
How long, Lord will you hide you forever? How long are the fires of your wrath to burn?
47 Manatu ki hono fuonounou ʻo ʻeku moʻui: ko e hā kuo ke ngaohi ʻae kakai kotoa pē ke taʻeʻaonga?
Remember, Lord, the shortness of life how fleeting you made all people.
48 Ko hai ʻae tangata ko ia ʻoku moʻui, pea ʻe ʻikai te ne mamata ki he mate? ʻE fakamoʻui ʻe ia ʻa hono laumālie mei he nima ʻoe faʻitoka? (Sila) (Sheol )
Who can live without seeing death? Who can rescue their life from the clutch of Sheol? (Selah) (Sheol )
49 ʻE ʻEiki, ko e fē hoʻo ngaahi ʻaloʻofa ʻi muʻa, ʻaia naʻa ke fuakava ʻaki kia Tevita ʻi hoʻo moʻoni?
Where, Lord, is your kindness of old, which you in your faithfulness swore to David?
50 Manatu, ʻE ʻEiki, ki he manukiʻi ʻo hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki; mo ʻeku fua ʻi hoku fatafata ʻae manuki ʻae kakai mālohi kotoa pē;
Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked, how I bear in my heart the scorn of all nations
51 ʻAia kuo manuki ʻaki ʻe ho ngaahi fili, ʻE Sihova; ʻaia kuo nau manuki ʻaki ʻae ngaahi ʻaluʻanga ʻo ia kuo ke pani.
The scorn which your enemies hurl, O Lord, which they hurl at the footsteps of your anointed.
52 Fakafetaʻi kia Sihova ʻo taʻengata. ʻEmeni, mo ʻEmeni.
Blest be the Lord, for ever and ever. Amen and Amen.
