1 Ki he Takimuʻa, ko e Saame ʻa Tevita. Fanongo ki hoku leʻo, ʻE ʻOtua, ʻi heʻeku lotu: fakahaofi ʻeku moʻui mei he manavahē ki he fili.
For the music director. A psalm of David. God, please listen to my complaint. Protect me because my enemies scare me.
2 Fakafufū au mei he filioʻi ʻae kau angahala; mei he angatuʻu fakamaveuveu ʻoe kau fai kovi:
Shelter me from the plots of the wicked, from this evil mob.
3 ‌ʻOku nau fakamata honau ʻelelo ʻo hangē ko e heletā, ʻonau teke ʻenau kaufana ke fanaʻi ʻenau ngaahi ngahau, ʻio, ko e ngaahi lea kona.
What they say cuts like swords; they fire off poisonous words like arrows.
4 Koeʻuhi ke nau fana ʻi he lilo ki he haohaoa: ʻoku nau fana fakafokifā pe kiate ia, ʻo taʻemanavahē.
They shoot from their hiding places at innocent people—doing this without warning, not afraid of being caught.
5 ‌ʻOku nau fetokoniʻaki ʻakinautolu ʻi he meʻa kovi: ʻoku nau fakakaukau ke tau ʻae ngaahi tauhele ʻi he lilo; ʻoku nau pehē, “Ko hai te ne mamata kiate kimautolu?”
They encourage one another to do evil, planning how to secretly trap people, telling themselves, “Nobody will notice.”
6 ‌ʻOku nau kumi ke ʻilo ʻae ngaahi kovi ʻoku nau faʻa ʻeke ke lahi: ʻoku taumamaʻo ʻae mahalo mo e loto ʻokinautolu kotoa pē.
They plot wicked things. “What a great plan we've created!” they say. There are no limits to the depths to which human minds and thoughts can sink.
7 Ka ʻe fana ʻe he ʻOtua kiate kinautolu ʻaki ʻae ngahau; te nau lavea fakafokifā pe.
But God will shoot them with arrows; all of a sudden they will be wounded.
8 Ko ia tenau ngaohi honau ʻelelo ke tō kiate kinautolu: ʻe hola ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku mamata kiate kinautolu.
What they themselves say will trip them up; people who see them will mock them, shaking their heads at them.
9 Pea ʻe manavahē ʻae tangata kotoa pē, ʻonau fakahā ʻae ngāue ʻae ʻOtua; he tenau fakakaukau poto ki heʻene ngāue.
Then everyone will be frightened. They will say that this is the work of God, and they will think about what he has done.
10 ‌ʻE fiefia ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi he ʻEiki, pea falala kiate ia; pea vikiviki ai ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku angatonu ʻi loto.
Those who are right with the Lord will be happy in him, they will go to him for protection. Those who live right will praise him.
