< Saame 56 >
1 Ki he Takimuʻa ʻi he Sonatilemi-Lehokimi, ko e Saame mahuʻinga ʻa Tevita, ʻi he puke ia ʻe he kakai Filisitia ʻi Kata. Ke ke ʻaloʻofa kiate au, ʻE ʻOtua: he ʻoku fie folo hifo au ʻe he tangata; ʻoku ne tauʻi au ʻi he ʻaho kotoa, ʻo ne taʻomia au.
God, be merciful to me because men have harassed me; all day my enemies pursue me.
2 Ko e loto ʻo hoku ngaahi fili ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē ke folo hifo au: he ʻoku tokolahi ʻakinautolu ʻoku tauʻi au, ʻE Fungani Māʻolunga.
My enemies harass me all day long; there are many of them who proudly attack me.
3 ʻI he ʻaho ʻoku ou manavahē ai, te u falala kiate koe.
But whenever I am afraid, I trust in you.
4 Te u fakamālō ki he ʻOtua ʻi heʻene folofola; ʻoku ou falala ki he ʻOtua; ʻe ʻikai te u manavahē ki he meʻa ʻe faʻa fai ʻe he kakai kiate au.
God, I praise/thank you because you do what you have promised; I trust in you, and then I am not afraid. Ordinary humans certainly cannot [RHQ] harm me!
5 ʻOku nau fakakehe ʻeku ngaahi lea ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē: ko ʻenau fakakaukau kotoa pē ke u kovi ai au.
All day long my enemies claim that I said things that I did not say (OR, try to destroy what I am doing); they are always thinking of ways to harm me.
6 ʻOku nau fakataha ʻakinautolu, ʻoku nau fakafufū ʻakinautolu, ʻoku nau vakai hoku ʻaluʻanga, ʻi heʻenau holi ki heʻeku moʻui.
In order to cause trouble for me, they hide and watch everything that I do, waiting for [an opportunity] to kill me [MTY].
7 Te nau hao koā ʻi heʻenau hia? ʻE ʻOtua, ke ke lī ki lalo ʻae kakai ʻi he houhau.
So, God, punish them for the wicked things that they are doing; show that you are angry by defeating those people!
8 ʻOku ke lau ʻa ʻeku ʻalu fano pē: ke ke ʻutu hoku ngaahi loʻimata ki hoʻo hina: ʻikai ʻoku nau tuʻu ʻi hoʻo tohi?
You have counted [all] the times that I have been wandering alone/distressed; [it is as though] you have put [all] my tears in a bottle [in order that you can see how much I have cried]. [You have counted my tears and written] the number in your book.
9 ʻO kau ka tangi kiate koe, ʻe foki kimui ai ʻa hoku ngaahi fili: ʻoku ou ʻilo ʻae meʻa ni; he ʻoku ʻiate au ʻae ʻOtua.
When I call out to you, [my] God, my enemies will be defeated; I know that will happen, because you are fighting for me.
10 Te u fakamālō ki he ʻOtua ʻi heʻene folofola: te u fakamālō kia Sihova ʻi heʻene folofola.
I praise/thank you that you do what you have promised; Yahweh, I [will always] praise you for that [DOU].
11 Kuo u falala ki he ʻOtua: ʻe ʻikai te u manavahē ki ha meʻa ʻe faʻa fai ʻe he tangata kiate au.
I trust in you, and as a result, I will not be afraid. I know that humans cannot really [RHQ] harm me!
12 ʻE ʻOtua, ʻoku ʻiate au hoʻo ngaahi fuakava: te u ʻatu ʻae fakamālō kiate koe,
I will bring to you the offering that I promised; I will bring an offering to you to thank you,
13 He kuo ke fakamoʻui hoku laumālie mei he mate: pea ʻikai te ke fakahaofi hoku vaʻe mei he hinga, koeʻuhi ke u ʻeveʻeva ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua ʻi he maama ʻoe kakai moʻui?
because you have rescued me from being killed; you have kept me from stumbling. As a result, I will continue to live in your presence in the light that [shines on those who are still] alive (OR, in the light that [enables people to] live).
