< Saame 18 >
1 Ki he Takimuʻa ko e Saame ʻa Tevita, ko e tamaioʻeiki ʻa Sihova, ʻaia naʻe lea ʻaki kia Sihova ʻae ngaahi lea ʻoe hiva ni, ʻi he ʻaho ko ia naʻe fakamoʻui ia ʻe Sihova mei he nima ʻo hono ngaahi fili kotoa pē, pea mei he nima ʻo Saula: ʻo pehē, Te u ʻofa kiate koe, ʻE Sihova, ko ʻeku mālohi.
For the leader. Of David, the servant of the Lord, who recited the words of this song to the Lord after the Lord had saved him from the power of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love you, O Lord, my strength.
2 Ko hoku makatuʻu ʻa Sihova, mo ʻeku kolo, mo hoku fakamoʻui; ko hoku ʻOtua, ko hoku mālohi, ʻaia te u falala ki ai; ko hoku fakaū, mo e mālohi ʻo ʻeku moʻui, mo hoku hūfanga māʻolunga.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, deliverer, my God, my rock, where I take refuge, my shield, my defender, my tower.
3 Te u ui kia Sihova, ʻaia ʻoku ngali mo ia ʻae fakafetaʻi: ko ia te u moʻui ai mei hoku ngaahi fili.
Worthy of praise is the Lord whom I call on, he rescues me from all my foes.
4 Naʻe kāpui au ʻe he ngaahi mamahi ʻoe mate. pea naʻe fakamanavahēʻi au ʻe he lōmaki mai ʻoe kau tangata angakovi.
The waves of death broke about me, fearful floods of chaos.
5 Naʻe kāpui au ʻe he ngaahi mamahi ʻo hētesi: naʻe talia au ʻe he ngaahi tauhele ʻoe mate. (Sheol )
Sheol threw cords around me, snares of death came to meet me. (Sheol )
In distress I cried to the Lord, and shouted for help to my God; in his temple he heard my voice, into his ears came my cry.
7 Naʻe ngalulu ai ʻa māmani ʻo tetetete; naʻe ngaue mo lulululu foki ʻae tuʻunga ʻoe ngaahi moʻunga, koeʻuhi ko ʻene houhau.
Then the earth shook and quaked, mountains trembled to their foundations, and quaked because of his wrath.
8 Naʻe ʻalu hake ʻae kohu ʻi hono houhau, pea naʻe keina ʻe he afi mei hono ngutu: naʻe tutuʻaki ia ʻae fefie.
Smoke went up from his nostrils, devouring fire from his mouth, coals were kindled by it.
9 Naʻa ne ofeʻi hifo foki ʻae ngaahi langi, ʻo hāʻele hifo: pea naʻe ʻi hono lalo vaʻe ʻae poʻuli.
Then he bent the sky and came down, thick darkness was under his feet.
10 Naʻe heka ia ki he selupi, pea hāʻele ia: ʻio, naʻe hāʻele ia ʻi he ngaahi kapakau ʻoe matangi.
He rode on a cherub and flew, darting on wings of wind,
with his screen of darkness about him, in thick dark clouds of water.
12 ʻI he ulo mei hono ʻao naʻe mole atu ai ʻa ʻene ngaahi ʻao matolu, ʻae ʻuha maka mo e ngaahi malalaʻi afi.
At the radiance before him there passed hailstones and coals of fire.
13 Naʻe mana foki ʻe Sihova ʻi he ngaahi langi, pea fakahā hono leʻo ʻe he Fungani Māʻolunga; ko e ʻuha maka mo e ngaahi malalaʻi afi.
The Lord thundered from heaven, the Most High uttered his voice.
He shot his arrows and scattered them, flashed lightnings, and routed them.
15 Naʻe toki hā ai ʻae ngaahi tafeʻanga ʻoe vai, pea fakahā ai ʻae ngaahi tuʻunga ʻo māmani ʻi ho houhau, ʻE Sihova, ʻi he matangi ʻoe mānava ʻo ho houhau.
The channels of the sea were revealed, the world was laid bare to its base, at your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.
16 Naʻa ne fekau mei ʻolunga, naʻa ne toʻo au, naʻa ne toʻo hake au mei he ngaahi vai lahi.
He stretched from on high, he seized me, drew me up from the mighty waters,
and saved me from those who hated me – fierce foes, too mighty for me.
18 Naʻa nau fakatangaʻi au ʻi he ʻaho ʻo ʻeku tuʻutāmaki: ka ko hoku tokoni ʻa Sihova.
In my day of distress they assailed me, but the Lord proved my support.
19 Naʻa ne ʻomi au ki he potu ʻataʻatā lahi; naʻa ne fakahaofi au, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene fiemālie ʻiate au.
To a spacious place he brought me, and, for love of me, he saved me.
20 Naʻe totongi ʻe Sihova kiate au ʻo fakatatau ki heʻeku māʻoniʻoni; ʻo fakatatau ki he maʻa ʻa hoku nima kuo ne totongi kiate au.
The Lord repays my innocence, he rewards my cleanness of hands.
21 He naʻaku tauhi ʻae ngaahi hala ʻo Sihova, pea naʻe ʻikai te u ʻalu ʻi he angakovi mei hoku ʻOtua.
For I kept the ways of the Lord, nor have wickedly strayed from my God.
22 He naʻe ʻi hoku ʻao ʻa ʻene ngaahi fakamaau kotoa pē, pea naʻe ʻikai te u liʻaki ʻene ngaahi fekau ʻiate au.
His commandments were all before me, his statutes I put not away.
23 Pea naʻaku angatonu foki ʻi hono ʻao, pea ne u taʻofi au mei heʻeku hia.
And I was blameless before him, guarding myself from sin.
24 Ko ia kuo totongi ai au ʻe Sihova ʻo fakatatau ki heʻeku māʻoniʻoni, pea fakatatau ki he maʻa ʻa hoku nima ʻi hono ʻao.
So the Lord repaid my innocence, my cleanness of hands in his sight.
25 ʻI he kakai loto ʻofa te ke fakahā koe ko e ʻaloʻofa; ki he tangata angatonu te ke fakahā koe ko e angatonu;
With the loyal you are loyal, and with the blameless blameless.
26 Ki he māʻoniʻoni te ke fakahā koe ʻae māʻoniʻoni; pea ki he tangata angatuʻu temo fekuki mo ia.
With the pure you show yourself pure, but shrewd with the devious.
For the lowly people you save, but haughty eyes you abase.
28 Pea te ke tutu ʻeku maama: ʻo huluʻaki ʻeku fakapoʻuli ʻe Sihova ko hoku ʻOtua.
You are my lamp, Lord, my God who enlightens my darkness.
29 He ko e meʻa ʻiate koe naʻaku halaua ʻae tau ʻo hao; pea ʻi hoku ʻOtua ne u puna kituʻa ʻi he ʻā maka.
With you I can storm a rampart, with my God I can leap a wall.
30 Pea ko e ʻOtua, ʻoku haohaoa hono hala: ʻoku ʻahiʻahiʻi ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova: ko e fakaū ia kiate kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku falala kiate ia.
As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is pure. He is shield to all who take refuge in him.
31 He ko hai ʻoku ʻOtua ka ko Sihova pē? Pe ko hai ʻae makatuʻu ka ko hotau ʻOtua pē?
For who is God but the Lord? And who is a rock but our God?
32 Ko e ʻOtua ia ʻoku ne nonoʻo ʻaki au ʻae mālohi, ʻo fakahaohaoa hoku ʻaluʻanga.
The God who arms me with strength, who cleared and smoothed my way.
He made my feet like hinds’ feet, and set me up on the heights.
34 ʻOku ne akonakiʻi hoku nima ke tau, ko ia ʻoku fesiʻi ai ʻe hoku nima ʻae kaufana ukamea.
He taught my hands how to fight, and my arms how to bend a bronze bow.
35 Pea kuo ke foaki foki kiate au ʻae fakaū ʻo hoʻo fakamoʻui: pea kuo poupou hake au ʻe ho nima toʻomataʻu, pea ʻi hoʻo angamalū kuo ke hakeakiʻi au.
The shield of your help you gave me, your right hand supports me, you stoop down to make me great.
36 Kuo ke fakaʻataʻatā hoku ʻaluʻanga ʻi lalo ʻiate au, ko ia naʻe ʻikai hekea ai hoku vaʻe.
In your strength I took giant strides, and my feet never slipped.
So I chased the foe till I caught them, and turned not, till I made an end of them.
38 Kuo nau makafokafo ʻiate au, ko ia naʻe ʻikai ai tenau faʻa tuʻu hake: kuo nau tō ki hoku lalo vaʻe.
I smashed them, they could not rise, they fell beneath my feet.
39 He naʻa ke nonoʻo ʻaki au ʻae mālohi ki he tau: kuo ke fakavaivai ki lalo ʻiate au ʻakinautolu naʻe tuʻu hake kiate au.
You did arm me with strength for war, you did bow my assailants beneath me.
40 Pea kuo ke foaki foki kiate au ʻae kia ʻo hoku ngaahi fili; koeʻuhi ke u fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu ʻoku fehiʻa kiate au.
You made my foes turn their back to me, and those who did hate me I finished.
They cried for help, but none saved them; to the Lord, but he answered them not.
42 Pea ne u toki tali ʻakinautolu ʻo momosi ʻo hangē ko e efu ʻoku vilingia ʻi he matangi: naʻaku lī ʻakinautolu kituʻa ʻo hangē ko e pelepela ʻi he ngaahi hala.
I beat them like dust of the market-place, stamped them like mud of the streets.
43 Kuo ke fakamoʻui au mei he ngaahi fekeʻikeʻi ʻoe kakai; pea kuo ke ngaohi au ko e ʻulu ki he hiteni: ko e kakai naʻe ʻikai te u ʻiloʻi te nau tauhi au.
From the strife of the peoples you saved me, you made me head of the nations, peoples I knew not did serve me.
44 ʻOka nau ka fanongo kiate au, te nau talangofua leva kiate au: ko e kau muli te nau fakavaivai ʻakinautolu kiate au.
On the instant they hear, they obey me, foreigners come to me cringing.
45 ʻE fakaʻaʻau ʻo ʻosi ʻae ngaahi muli, pea te nau manavahē mei honau ngaahi potu lilo.
Foreigners lose courage, and come out of their strongholds trembling.
46 ʻOku moʻui ʻa Sihova; pea fakafetaʻi ki hoku makatuʻu; pea tuku ke hakeakiʻi ʻae ʻOtua ʻo ʻeku moʻui.
The Lord is alive! Blest be my rock! Exalted be God, my protector!
The God who gave me revenge, and brought down nations beneath me,
48 ʻOku ne fakamoʻui au mei hoku ngaahi fili: ʻio, ʻoku ke hiki au ke u māʻolunga ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku angatuʻu kiate au: kuo ke fakamoʻui au mei he tangata angamālohi.
who saved me from angry foes, and set me above my assailants, safe from the violent.
49 Ko ia te u fakafetaʻi ai kiate koe, ʻE Sihova, ʻi he ʻao ʻoe hiteni, pea te u hivaʻaki ʻae fakafetaʻi ki ho huafa.
For this I will praise you among the nations, making music, O Lord, to your name:
50 ʻOku ne tuku ʻae fakamoʻui lahi ki heʻene tuʻi; ʻo ne fakahā ʻae ʻaloʻofa kiate ia kuo ne pani ʻaki ʻae lolo, kia Tevita, mo hono hako ʻo taʻengata.
for great triumphs he grants to his king, and faithful love he shows his anointed, to David and his seed evermore.
