1 Ki he Takimuʻa, ko e Saame ʻa Tevita. ‌ʻE Sihova, fakamoʻui au mei he tangata angakovi: fakamoʻui au mei he tangata fakamālohi;
Deliver me, Adonai, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man;
2 ‌ʻAia ʻoku mahalo kovi ʻi honau loto; ʻoku nau fakataha maʻuaipē ke tau.
those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war.
3 Kuo nau fakamāsila honau ʻelelo ʻo hangē ko e ngata; ʻoku ʻai ʻae kona ʻoe ngata ʻi honau lalo loungutu. (Sila)
They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips. (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
4 Fakahaofi au, ʻE Sihova, mei he nima ʻoe angahala; fakamoʻui au mei he tangata fakamālohi, ʻaia kuo ne fakakaukau ke tulaki hifo hoku vaʻe.
Adonai, keep me from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the violent men who have determined to trip my feet.
5 Kuo tau fufū ʻe he laukau ʻae tauhele kiate au, mo e ngaahi afo; kuo nau ʻaʻau ʻae kupenga ʻi he veʻe hala; kuo nau teuteu ʻae ngaahi hele kiate au. (Sila)
The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
6 Naʻaku pehē kia Sihova, “Ko koe ko hoku ʻOtua:” ʻE Sihova, ke ke ongoʻi ʻae leʻo ʻo ʻeku ngaahi lotu tāumaʻu.
I said to Adonai, “You are my God.” Listen to the cry of my petitions, Adonai.
7 ‌ʻE Sihova ko e ʻEiki, ko e mālohi ʻo ʻeku fakamoʻui, kuo ke maluʻi hoku ʻulu ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe tau.
Adonai the 'Adonay [Yahweh the Lord], the strength of my yishu'ah ·salvation·, you have covered my head in the day of battle.
8 ‌ʻE Sihova, ʻoua naʻa ke fai ki he ngaahi holi ʻae angahala: ʻoua naʻa ke tokoni ʻene fakakaukau kovi, telia naʻa nau hiki hake ʻakinautolu. (Sila)
Adonai, don’t grant the desires of the wicked. Don’t let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
9 Ka ko e ʻulu ʻokinautolu ʻoku nau kāpui au, tuku ke ʻufiʻufi ʻaki ʻakinautolu ʻae kovi ʻo honau loungutu.
As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
10 Ke tō kiate kinautolu ʻae malalaʻi afi ʻoku vela: tuku ke lī ʻakinautolu ki he afi; ki he ngaahi luo tau mamaʻo, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa nau toetuʻu hake.
Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, from where they never rise.
11 ‌ʻOua naʻa tuku ha tangata lea kovi ke tuʻumaʻu ʻi māmani: ʻe tuli ʻe he kovi ʻae tangata fakamālohi ke tulaki ia.
An evil speaker won’t be established in the earth. Evil will hunt the violent man to overthrow him.
12 ‌ʻOku ou ʻilo ʻe fakamaau ʻe Sihova ʻae meʻa ʻae mamahi, mo e ʻinasi totonu ʻoe masiva.
I know that Adonai will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and mishpat ·justice· for the needy.
13 Ko e moʻoni ʻe ʻatu ʻae fakafetaʻi ʻe he māʻoniʻoni ki ho huafa: ʻe nofo ʻae angatonu ʻi ho ʻao.
Surely the upright will yadah ·extend hands in thankful praise· to your name. The upright will dwell in your presence.
