< Saame 137 >

1 Naʻa mau nofo ki lalo ʻi he veʻe vaitafe ʻo Papilone, ʻio, naʻa mau tangi ʻi heʻemau manatu ki Saione.
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down; yea, we wept when we remembered Zion.
2 Naʻa mau tautau ʻemau ngaahi haʻape, ʻi he ngaahi uilou ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo ia.
We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3 He naʻe fekauʻi ai ʻekinautolu naʻa nau fakapōpulaʻi ʻakimautolu ke mau hiva; pea ko kinautolu naʻe fakaʻosiʻosi ʻakimautolu naʻa nau fekau ke mau fiefia, ʻonau pehē, “Hiva mai kiate kimautolu ʻi he ngaahi hiva ʻo Saione.”
For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that made us wail [required] mirth, [saying, ] Sing us [one] of the songs of Zion.
4 ‌ʻE fēfē ʻemau hiva ʻaki ʻae hiva ʻa Sihova ʻi he fonua ʻoe muli?
How should we sing a song of Jehovah's upon a foreign soil?
5 Kapau te u fakangalongaloʻi koe, ʻE Selūsalema, tuku ke ngalo ʻi hoku nima toʻomataʻu hono faiva.
If I forget thee, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget [its skill];
If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to my palate: if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 Manatu, ʻE Sihova, ki he fānau ʻa ʻItomi, ʻi he ʻaho ʻo Selūsalema; naʻa nau pehē, “Fakaʻauha ia! Fakaʻauha ia, ʻo aʻu ki hono tuʻunga!”
Remember, O Jehovah, against the sons of Edom, the day of Jerusalem; who said, Lay [it] bare, Lay [it] bare, down to its foundation!
8 ‌ʻE ʻofefine ʻo Papilone, ʻe fakaʻauha koe; ʻe monūʻia ia, ʻaia te ne totongi kiate koe, ʻo hangē ko hoʻo fai kiate kimautolu.
Daughter of Babylon, who art to be laid waste, happy he that rendereth unto thee that which thou hast meted out to us.
9 ‌ʻE monūʻia ia, ʻaia te ne toʻo ʻo laiki hoʻo fānau iiki ki he maka.
Happy he that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the rock.
