1 Ko e Hiva ʻae ʻalu hake. ‌ʻI he toe liliu ʻe Sihova ʻae pōpula ʻo Saione, naʻa tau tatau mo kinautolu ʻoku misi.
A Canticle in steps. When the Lord turned back the captivity of Zion, we became like those who are consoled.
2 Pea naʻe toki fakapito ʻaki hotau ngutu ʻae kata, mo hotau ʻelelo ʻi he hiva: pea naʻe toki pehē ʻe he hiteni, “Kuo fai ʻe Sihova ʻae ngaahi meʻa lahi maʻanautolu.”
Then our mouth was filled with gladness and our tongue with exultation. Then they will say among the nations: “The Lord has done great things for them.”
3 Kuo fai ʻe Sihova ʻae ngaahi meʻa lahi maʻatautolu; pea ʻoku tau fiefia ai.
The Lord has done great things for us. We have become joyful.
4 ‌ʻE Sihova, ke ke toe liliu ʻemau pōpula, ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi vaitafe ʻi he feituʻu tonga.
Convert our captivity, O Lord, like a torrent in the south.
5 Ko kinautolu ʻoku tūtuuʻi ʻi he loʻimata te nau tuʻusi ʻi he fiefia.
Those who sow in tears shall reap in exultation.
6 Ko ia ʻoku ne ʻalu atu ʻo tangi, pea ʻave ʻae tenga mahuʻinga, te ne toe haʻu ʻi he fiefia, mo ʻomi ʻene ngaahi ū uite fakataha mo ia.
When departing, they went forth and wept, sowing their seeds. But when returning, they will arrive with exultation, carrying their sheaves.
