1 Ko e Hiva ʻae ʻalu hake. ‌ʻOku ou hanga hake hoku mata ki hoʻo ʻafio, ʻa koe ʻoku ke ʻafio ʻi he ngaahi langi.

“A song of the degrees.” Unto thee do I lift up my eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

2 Vakai, ʻoku hangē ko e sio ʻae mata ʻoe kau tamaioʻeiki ki he nima ʻo ʻenau ngaahi ʻeiki, pea hangē ko e mata ʻo ha kaunanga ki he nima ʻo ʻene ʻeiki fefine; ʻoku tatali pehē ʻa homau mata kia Sihova ko homau ʻOtua, kaeʻoua ke ne ʻaloʻofa mai kiate kimautolu.

Behold, as the eyes of servants are directed unto the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress: thus are our eyes directed unto the Lord our God, until he be gracious unto us.

3 ‌ʻE Sihova, ke ke ʻaloʻofa mai kiate kimautolu, ke ke ʻaloʻofa mai kiate kimautolu: he kuo mau fonu ʻaupito ʻi he manukia.

Be gracious unto us, O Lord! be gracious unto us; for we are overburdened with contempt.

4 ‌ʻOku fonu ʻaupito homau laumālie ʻi he manuki ʻanautolu ʻoku anga fakafiemālie, pea mo e fehiʻa ʻae fielahi.

Our soul is overburdened with the scorn of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud oppressors.
