Lea Fakatātā 7
1 ʻE hoku foha, ke ke maʻu ʻeku ngaahi lea, pea ke tānaki kiate koe ʻa ʻeku ngaahi fekau.
My son! keep my sayings, And my commands lay up with thee.
2 Fai ki heʻeku ngaahi fekau pea moʻui ai! Pea tokangaʻi ʻa ʻeku fono ʻo hangē ko ho kanoʻi mata.
Keep my commands, and live, And my law as the pupil of thine eye.
3 Nonoʻo ia ki ho louhiʻi nima, tohi ia ki he kakano ʻo ho loto.
Bind them on thy fingers, Write them on the tablet of thy heart.
4 Ke ke lea ʻo pehē ki he poto, “Ko hoku tokoua koe;” pea ke ui ʻae ʻilo ko ho kāinga fefine:
Say to wisdom, 'My sister Thou [art].' And cry to understanding, 'Kinswoman!'
5 Koeʻuhi ke na fakamoʻui koe mei he fefine muli, mei he muli ʻoku fakaoloolo ʻaki ʻene ngaahi lea.
To preserve thee from a strange woman, From a stranger who hath made smooth her sayings.
6 He naʻaku sio atu mei he matapā ʻa hoku fale mei he matapā sioʻata.
For, at a window of my house, Through my casement I have looked out,
7 Pea naʻaku vakai ki he kakai vale, pea ne u ʻiloʻi ʻi he kau talavou ʻae tangata talavou ʻoku masiva ʻi he poto,
And I do see among the simple ones, I discern among the sons, A young man lacking understanding,
8 Naʻe ʻalu atu ʻi he hala ʻo ofi ki hono ʻapi; ʻo ne ʻalu ʻi he hala ki hono fale,
Passing on in the street, near her corner, And the way [to] her house he doth step,
9 ʻI he efiafi poʻuli, ʻi he pō ʻuliʻuli mo fakapoʻuli:
In the twilight — in the evening of day, In the darkness of night and blackness.
10 Pea vakai, naʻe fakafetaulaki mai kiate ia ʻae fefine ʻoku kofu ʻi he kofu ʻoe faʻa feʻauaki, ʻo loto kākā.
And, lo, a woman to meet him — (A harlot's dress, and watchful of heart,
11 (ʻOku faʻa longoaʻa ia mo angamālohi, ʻoku ʻikai nofo hono vaʻe ʻi hono fale:
Noisy she [is], and stubborn, In her house her feet rest not.
12 Ko eni ʻoku ʻituʻa, ko ʻena ʻoku ʻi he ngaahi hala, ʻoku ne nofo toitoi ʻi he tuliki kotoa pē.)
Now in an out-place, now in broad places, And near every corner she lieth in wait) —
13 Pea naʻa ne puke ia, pea ʻuma ki ai, pea ʻi he mata fiematamuʻa naʻa ne pehē kiate ia,
And she laid hold on him, and kissed him, She hath hardened her face, and saith to him,
14 “ʻOku ou maʻu ʻae ngaahi foaki fakalelei; pea kuo u fakamoʻoni ki heʻeku ngaahi fuakava ʻi he ʻaho ni.
'Sacrifices of peace-offerings [are] by me, To-day I have completed my vows.
15 Ko ia kuo u haʻu ai ke ta feʻilongaki mo koe, ke kumi ʻi he feinga ki ho mata, pea ko eni kuo u maʻu koe.
Therefore I have come forth to meet thee, To seek earnestly thy face, and I find thee.
16 Kuo u teuteu hoku mohenga ʻaki ʻae ngaahi puipui matamatalelei, mo e tongi fakasanisani, mo e tupenu lelei mei ʻIsipite.
[With] ornamental coverings I decked my couch, Carved works — cotton of Egypt.
17 Kuo u fakanamu kakala ʻa hoku mohenga ʻaki ʻae mula, mo e ʻalosi, pea mo e sinamoni.
I sprinkled my bed — myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Haʻu, ke ta fakafonu ʻakitaua ʻi he ʻofa ʻo aʻu ki he ʻapongipongi: ke ta fakafiemālie ʻakitaua ʻi heʻeta fai ʻofa.
Come, we are filled [with] loves till the morning, We delight ourselves in loves.
19 He ʻoku ʻikai ʻi ʻapi ʻae tangataʻeiki, kuo ʻalu ia ʻo fononga mamaʻo:”
For the man is not in his house, He hath gone on a long journey.
20 Kuo ne ʻave mo ia ʻae kato paʻanga, pea ʻe ʻikai haʻu ia kaeʻoua ke hokosia hono ʻaho kuo ne lea ki ai.
A bag of money he hath taken in his hand, At the day of the new moon he cometh to his house.'
21 Naʻa ne fakavaivaiʻi ia ʻaki ʻa ʻene ngaahi lea matamatalelei, ʻo ne maʻu ia ʻi he fakaoloolo ʻa hono ngutu.
She turneth him aside with the abundance of her speech, With the flattery of her lips she forceth him.
22 Ko ia naʻa ne ʻalu muimui leva ʻiate ia, ʻo hangē ko e pulu ke tāmateʻi, pea hangē ko e vale ki he tautea ʻoe ʻakau fakamaau vaʻe;
He is going after her straightway, As an ox unto the slaughter he cometh, And as a fetter unto the chastisement of a fool,
23 Kaeʻoua ke ʻasi ʻae ngahau ki hono ʻate; ʻio, ʻo hangē ko e manu ʻoku ʻoho vave ki he tauhele, ʻo ʻikai ke ne ʻilo ko e meʻa ke ʻosi ai ʻene moʻui.
Till an arrow doth split his liver, As a bird hath hastened unto a snare, And hath not known that it [is] for its life.
24 ʻE fānau, ke mou fanongo eni kiate au, pea mou tokanga ki he ngaahi lea ʻa hoku ngutu.
And now, ye sons, hearken to me, And give attention to sayings of my mouth.
25 ʻOua naʻa tuku ke ʻalu atu ho loto ki hono hala, ʻoua naʻa mou hē ʻi hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga.
Let not thy heart turn unto her ways, Do not wander in her paths,
26 He kuo lī hifo ʻe ia ʻae toko lahi kuo lavea; ʻio, kuo tāmateʻi ʻe ia ʻae kau tangata mālohi toko lahi.
For many [are] the wounded she caused to fall, And mighty [are] all her slain ones.
