< Lea Fakatātā 5 >

1 ‌ʻE hoku foha, tokanga ki heʻeku poto, pea ke fakaongo ho telinga ki heʻeku ʻilo:
MY son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 Koeʻuhi ke ke tokangaʻi ʻae fakapotopoto, pea ke maʻu pe ʻi ho loungutu ʻae ʻilo.
That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 He ʻoku toʻi ʻae loungutu ʻoe fefine muli ʻo hangē ko e ngeʻesi ʻoe honi, pea ʻoku molemole lahi hake ʻi he lolo ʻa hono ngutu:
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4 Ka ʻoku tatau mo e kona ʻīʻī ʻa hono ikuʻanga, ʻo māsila ʻo hangē ha heletā fakatoumata.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
5 ‌ʻOku ʻalu hifo hono vaʻe ki he mate, ʻoku fakatau atu ʻa ʻene ngaahi laka ki heli. (Sheol h7585)
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. (Sheol h7585)
6 Pea telia naʻa ke fakakaukau ki he hala ʻoe moʻui, ʻoku fakafihi ʻe ia hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga, ke ʻoua naʻa ke ʻiloʻi ia.
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7 Ko ia ʻae fānau, ke mou fanongo kiate au, pea ʻoua naʻa mou hē mei he ngaahi lea ʻa hoku ngutu.
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Ke fakamamaʻo ʻaupito ho hala meiate ia, pea ʻoua naʻa ke ofi ki he matapā ʻo hono fale:
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Telia naʻa ke foaki ho ongolelei ki ha kakai kehe, pea moho ngaahi taʻu ki he kakai loto fakafasifasi:
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 Telia naʻa pito ʻae kau muli ʻi ho mālohi; pea ʻe ʻi he fale ʻoe muli hoʻo ngaahi ngāue;
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11 Pea ke tangi mamahi ʻamui, ʻoka kai ʻo ʻosi ho kakano mo ho sino,
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 ‌ʻo ke pehē ai, “ʻOiauē, naʻe lahi ʻeku fehiʻa ki he akonaki, pea naʻe manukiʻi ʻe hoku loto ʻae valoki;
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 Pea naʻe ʻikai teu talangofua ki he leʻo ʻo hoku kau akonaki, pe fakatokangaʻi hoku telinga kiate kinautolu naʻa nau ako kiate au!
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 Naʻaku meimei kau ʻi he kovi kotoa pē, ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe haʻohaʻonga mo e fakatahaʻanga.”
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Inu ʻae vai mei ho lepa pe ʻoʻou, mo e vaitafe mei he vai keli pe ʻoʻou.
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Ke tafe atu ho ngaahi mangamangaʻi vai, mo e vaitafe ʻoe ngaahi vai ki he ngaahi hala.
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Ke tuku ia ko hoʻo meʻa ʻaʻau pe, pea ʻoua naʻa kau ai mo koe ha muli.
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.
18 Ke monūʻia ho matavai: pea ke fiefia koe ʻi ho uaifi [ʻaia naʻa ke maʻu ]ʻi hoʻo kei talavou.
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Ke tatau pe ia mo e hainite ʻofa mo e kāseli fakaʻofoʻofa; pea ke fiemālie maʻuaipē koe ʻi hono fatafata; pea ke fakafiefiaʻi koe ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē ʻi heʻene ʻofa.
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 ‌ʻE hoku foha, ko e hā ka ke ka hē ai ʻi he fefine muli, pea fāʻufua ki he fatafata ʻoe muli?
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 He ʻoku tokaimaʻananga ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ʻae ngaahi hala ʻoe tangata, pea ʻoku vakai ʻe ia ʻa hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga.
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 ‌ʻE moʻua ʻae angahala ʻi heʻene ngaahi hia ʻaʻana, pea ʻe haʻisia ʻaki ia ʻae afo ʻo ʻene angahala.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 ‌ʻE mate taʻeakonekina ia; pea ʻe hē ia ko e meʻa ʻi he lahi ʻo ʻene vale.
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
