< Lea Fakatātā 3 >

1 ‌ʻE hoku foha, ʻoua naʻa fakangaloʻi ʻa ʻeku fono; ka ke tauhi ʻe ho loto ʻa ʻeku ngaahi fekau:
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 He koeʻuhi ʻe fakalahi ʻaki ia kiate koe ʻae ngaahi ʻaho lōloa, mo e moʻui fuoloa, pea mo e melino.
For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Ke ʻoua naʻa mahuʻi ʻiate koe ʻae manavaʻofa mo e moʻoni: nonoʻo ia ki ho kia; tohi ia ki he kakano ʻo ho loto:
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 Ko ia te ke ʻilo ai ʻae lelei, pea ʻe tāpuekina koe ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua mo e tangata.
So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of Elohim and man.
5 Falala kia Sihova ʻaki ho loto kotoa; pea ʻoua naʻa ke faʻaki ki ho poto ʻoʻou.
Trust in YHWH with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 Ke ke fakaongoongo kiate ia ʻi ho hala kotoa pē, pea ʻe fakatonutonu ʻe ia ho ngaahi ʻaluʻanga.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 ‌ʻOua naʻa ke pehē ʻi ho mata ʻoʻou, ʻoku ke poto: ka ke manavahē kia Sihova, pea tafoki mei he kovi.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear YHWH, and depart from evil.
8 ‌ʻE hoko ia ko e moʻui ki ho pito, mo e uho ki ho ngaahi hui.
It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Fakaʻapaʻapa kia Sihova ʻaki hoʻo koloa, pea mo e ʻuluaki fua ʻo hoʻo meʻa kotoa pē kuo tupu:
Honour YHWH with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 Ko ia ʻe fonu ai ho ngaahi feleoko ʻi he mahu, pea ʻe hā ʻae uaine foʻou mei hoʻo ngaahi tataʻoʻanga.
So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
11 ‌ʻE hoku foha, ʻoua naʻa ke manukiʻi ʻae tautea meia Sihova; pea ʻoua naʻa ke fiu ʻi heʻene valoki:
My son, despise not the chastening of YHWH; neither be weary of his correction:
12 He ko ia ʻoku ʻofa ki ai ʻa Sihova ʻoku ne tautea; ʻo hangē pe ko e tamai ki he foha ʻoku ne fiemālie ai.
For whom YHWH loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
13 ‌ʻOku monūʻia ʻae tangata ko ia ʻoku ne maʻu ʻae poto, mo e tangata ʻoku ne lavaʻi ʻae ʻilo.
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14 He ʻoku maʻongoʻonga hake ia ʻi he fakatau ʻoe siliva, mo hono mahuʻinga ʻi he koula lelei.
For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15 ‌ʻOku mahuʻinga hake ia ʻi he ngaahi maka koloa: pea ʻoku ʻikai tatau mo ia ʻae ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ke faʻa holi ki ai.
She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
16 ‌ʻOku ʻi hono nima toʻomataʻu ʻae ngaahi ʻaho lōloa; pea ʻoku ʻi hono nima toʻohema ʻae koloa mo e ongoongolelei.
Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
17 Ko hono ngaahi hala ko e hala ʻoe fiemālie, pea ʻoku melino ʻa hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga kotoa pē.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 Ko e ʻakau ia ʻoe moʻui kiate kinautolu ʻoku puke kiate ia: pea ʻoku monūʻia ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku kuku ia ke maʻu.
She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
19 Kuo fokotuʻu ʻe Sihova ʻae tuʻunga ʻo māmani ʻi he poto; pea ʻi he ʻilo kuo ne teuteu ai ʻae ngaahi langi.
YHWH by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
20 Ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene faʻa ʻilo ʻoku mapunopuna hake ai ʻae ngaahi loloto, pea ʻoku toʻi ʻae hahau mei he ngaahi ʻao.
By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21 E hoku foha, ʻoua naʻa ke tuku ke mole atu ia mei ho ʻao: tauhi ke maʻu ʻae poto moʻoni mo e ʻiloʻilo.
My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22 Pea ʻe hoko ai ia ko e moʻui ki ho laumālie, mo e teunga lelei ki ho kia.
So shall they be life unto thy soul, and favour to thy neck.
23 Pea te ke toki ʻalu lelei ʻi ho hala, pea ʻe ʻikai tūkia ho vaʻe.
Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
24 ‌ʻOka ke ka tokoto ki lalo, ʻe ʻikai te ke manavahē: ʻio, te ke tokoto hifo, pea ʻe melie hoʻo mohe kiate koe.
When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
25 ‌ʻOua naʻa ke manavahē ki ha meʻa fakailifia ʻoku fakafokifā mai; pe ki he fakaʻauha ʻoe angahala, ʻoka hoko mai ia.
Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
26 He ko ho falalaʻanga ʻa Sihova, pea ʻe fakahaofi ʻe ia ho vaʻe ke ʻoua naʻa ʻefihia.
For YHWH shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
27 ‌ʻOua naʻa taʻofi ʻae lelei meiate kinautolu ʻoku totonu ke ʻatu ia ki ai, ʻo kapau ʻoku ʻi ho nima hono mafai.
Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
28 ‌ʻOua naʻa ke pehē ki ho kaungāʻapi, “ʻAlu, pea ke toe haʻu, pea te u foaki ia kiate koe ʻapongipongi;” kae ʻosi ʻoku ke maʻu pe ʻae meʻa ʻiate koe.
Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
29 ‌ʻOua naʻa ke filioʻi kovi ki ho kaungāʻapi, he ʻoku ne nofo falala pe kiate koe.
Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.
30 ‌ʻOua naʻa fekuki mo ha taha taʻehanoʻuhinga, ʻo kapau kuo ʻikai ke fai ʻe ia ha kovi kiate koe.
Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
31 ‌ʻOua naʻa ke meheka ki he tangata fakamālohi, pea ʻoua naʻa ke fili ki hono ngaahi hala ʻoʻona.
Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
32 He ko e angahala ʻoku fakalielia ia kia Sihova: ka ʻoku ʻi he māʻoniʻoni ʻa hono finangalo fufū.
For the froward is abomination to YHWH: but his secret is with the righteous.
33 ‌ʻOku ʻi he fale ʻoe angahala ʻae fakamalaʻia meia Sihova: ka ʻoku ne tāpuakiʻi ʻae nofoʻanga ʻoe angatonu.
The curse of YHWH is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
34 Ko e moʻoni ʻoku ne manukiʻi ʻae kau manuki: ka ʻoku foaki ʻe ia ʻae lelei ki he angavaivai.
Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth favour unto the lowly.
35 ‌ʻE maʻu ʻe he poto ʻae ongoongolelei: ka ko e hakeakiʻi ʻoe vale ko e meʻa fakamā.
The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
