< Lea Fakatātā 2 >

1 ‌ʻE hoku foha, kapau te ke maʻu ʻa ʻeku ngaahi lea, mo fakafufū ʻiate koe ʻa ʻeku ngaahi fekau;
My sonne, if thou wilt receiue my wordes, and hide my commandements within thee,
2 Koeʻuhi ke fakatokangaʻi ho telinga ki he poto, pea ke tokanga ai ho loto ki he faʻa fakakaukau;
And cause thine eares to hearken vnto wisdome, and encline thine heart to vnderstanding,
3 ‌ʻIo, kapau te ke tangi ki he ʻilo, pea ke hiki hake ho leʻo ke maʻu ʻae fakakaukau:
(For if thou callest after knowledge, and cryest for vnderstanding:
4 Kapau te ke kumi ki ai ʻo hangē ko e siliva, pea hakule ki ai ʻo hangē ko e koloa kuo fufū;
If thou seekest her as siluer, and searchest for her as for treasures,
5 Te ke toki ʻilo ai ʻae manavahē kia Sihova, pea maʻu ʻae ʻiloʻi ʻoe ʻOtua.
Then shalt thou vnderstand the feare of the Lord, and finde the knowledge of God.
6 He ʻoku foaki ʻe Sihova ʻae poto: ʻoku haʻu mei hono fofonga ʻae ʻilo mo e fakakaukau.
For the Lord giueth wisdome, out of his mouth commeth knowledge and vnderstanding.
7 ‌ʻOku tokonaki ʻe ia ʻae poto ʻaonga maʻa e kakai māʻoniʻoni: ko e fakaū ia kiate kinautolu ʻoku ʻaʻeva ʻi he angatonu.
He preserueth the state of the righteous: he is a shielde to them that walke vprightly,
8 ‌ʻOku ne tauhi ʻae hala ʻoe fakamaau; pea ʻoku ne maluʻi ʻae hala ʻo ʻene kakai māʻoniʻoni.
That they may keepe the wayes of iudgement: and he preserueth the way of his Saintes)
9 Pea te ke toki ʻilo ai ʻae māʻoniʻoni, mo e fakamaau, mo e fai totonu; ʻio, ʻae hala lelei kotoa pē.
Then shalt thou vnderstand righteousnes, and iudgement, and equitie, and euery good path.
10 ‌ʻOka hū ʻae poto ki ho loto, pea mālie ʻae ʻilo ki ho laumālie;
When wisdome entreth into thine heart, and knowledge deliteth thy soule,
11 ‌ʻE fakamoʻui koe ʻe he faʻa fakakaukau, pea ʻe tauhi koe ʻe he poto:
Then shall counsell preserue thee, and vnderstanding shall keepe thee,
12 Ke fakamoʻui koe mei he hala ʻoe tangata kovi, mei he tangata ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa kovi;
And deliuer thee from the euill way, and from the man that speaketh froward things,
13 ‌ʻAia ʻoku liʻaki ʻae hala ʻoe māʻoniʻoni, kae ʻalu ʻi he ngaahi hala ʻoe fakapoʻuli;
And from them that leaue the wayes of righteousnes to walke in the wayes of darkenes:
14 ‌ʻAia ʻoku fiefia ke fai kovi, pea ʻoku fiemālie ʻi he talangataʻa ʻae angahala;
Which reioyce in doing euill, and delite in the frowardnesse of the wicked,
15 Pea ʻoku pikopiko hono ngaahi hala, pea kovi ʻa hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga:
Whose wayes are crooked and they are lewde in their paths.
16 Ke fakamoʻui koe mei he fefine muli, ʻio, mei he muli ʻoku lea fakaoloolo;
And it shall deliuer thee from the strange woman, euen from the stranger, which flattereth with her wordes.
17 ‌ʻAia kuo ne liʻaki ʻae fakahinohino ʻi heʻene kei siʻi, pea kuo ne fakangalongaloʻi ʻae fuakava ʻa hono ʻOtua.
Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the couenant of her God.
18 He ʻoku tahifohifo hono fale ki he mate, pea mo hono ʻalunga ki he kakai mate.
Surely her house tendeth to death, and her paths vnto the dead.
19 ‌ʻOku ʻikai toe foki mai ha taha ʻoku ʻalu atu kiate ia, pea ʻoku ʻikai ke puke ʻekinautolu ki he ngaahi hala ʻoe moʻui.
All they that goe vnto her, returne not againe, neither take they holde of the wayes of life.
20 Koeʻuhi ke ke ʻeveʻeva koe ʻi he hala ʻae kakai angalelei, pea ke maʻu ʻae ngaahi ʻaluʻanga ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
Therefore walke thou in the way of good men, and keepe the wayes of the righteous.
21 Koeʻuhi ʻe nofo ʻae angatonu ʻi he fonua, pea ʻe nofomaʻu ʻi ai ʻae haohaoa.
For the iust shall dwell in the land, and the vpright men shall remaine in it.
22 Ka ʻe motuhi atu ʻae angahala mei he māmani, pea ʻe taʻaki fuʻu hake mei ai ʻae fai kovi.
But the wicked shalbe cut off from ye earth, and the transgressours shalbe rooted out of it.
