< Lea Fakatātā 15 >

1 ‌ʻOku tekeʻi atu ʻae houhau ʻe he tali fakavaivai: ka ʻoku fakatupu ʻae ʻita ʻi he lea fakamamahi.
A soft answer turns back fury, And a grievous word raises up anger.
2 ‌ʻOku ngāue totonu ʻaki ʻae ʻilo ʻe he ʻelelo ʻoe poto: ka ʻoku malingi ʻae vale mei he ngutu ʻoe vale.
The tongue of the wise makes knowledge good, And the mouth of fools utters folly.
3 ‌ʻOku ʻi he potu kotoa pē ʻae fofonga ʻo Sihova, ʻo ne ʻafioʻi ʻae kovi mo e lelei.
The eyes of YHWH are in every place, Watching the evil and the good.
4 Ko e ʻelelo fakamoʻui ko e ʻakau ia ʻoe moʻui: pea ka talangataʻa ia ko e maumau ia ʻoe laumālie.
A healed tongue [is] a tree of life, And perverseness in it—a breach in the spirit.
5 ‌ʻOku fehiʻa ʻae vale ki he akonaki ʻa ʻene tamai: ka ʻoku fakapotopoto ia ʻaia ʻoku tokanga ki he valoki.
A fool despises the instruction of his father, And whoever is regarding reproof is prudent.
6 ‌ʻOku ai ʻae koloa lahi ʻi he fale ʻoe māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻoku ai ʻae mamahi ʻi he koloa ʻae angahala.
Abundant strength [is in] the house of the righteous, And in the increase of the wicked—trouble.
7 ‌ʻOku tufa atu ʻae poto ʻe he loungutu ʻoe poto: ka ʻoku ʻikai ke fai pehē ʻe he loto ʻoe vale.
The lips of the wise scatter knowledge, And the heart of fools [is] not right.
8 Ko e meʻa fakalielia kia Sihova ʻae feilaulau ʻae angahala: ka ko e lotu ʻae angatonu ʻoku ne fiemālie ai.
The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to YHWH, And the prayer of the upright [is] His delight.
9 Ko e meʻa fakalielia kia Sihova ʻae hala ʻoe angakovi: ka ʻoku ne ʻofa kiate ia ʻoku muimui ki he māʻoniʻoni.
The way of the wicked [is] an abomination to YHWH, And He loves whoever is pursuing righteousness.
10 Ko e meʻa fakamamahi ʻae tautea kiate ia kuo liʻaki ʻae hala: pea ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki he valoki ʻe mate ia.
Discipline [is] grievous to him who is forsaking the path, Whoever is hating reproof dies.
11 ‌ʻOku ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ʻa hētesi pea mo e fakaʻauha: kae muʻa hake ʻae loto ʻoe fānau ʻae tangata! (Sheol h7585)
Sheol and destruction [are] before YHWH, Surely also the hearts of the sons of men. (Sheol h7585)
12 ‌ʻOku ʻikai ʻofa ʻae tangata manuki kiate ia ʻoku valokiʻi ia: pea ʻoku ʻikai fie ʻalu atu ia ki he poto.
A scorner does not love his reprover, He does not go to the wise.
13 ‌ʻOku fakafiefiaʻi ʻae mata ʻe he loto ʻoku fiemālie: ka ʻoku maumauʻi ʻae laumālie ʻe he mamahi ʻoe loto.
A joyful heart makes the face glad, And the spirit is struck by grief of heart.
14 ‌ʻOku kumi ki he poto ʻe he loto ʻoʻona ʻoku faʻa ʻilo: ka ʻoku kai ʻae vale ʻe he ngutu ʻoe kakai vale.
The heart of the intelligent seeks knowledge, And the mouth of fools enjoys folly.
15 ‌ʻOku kovi ʻae ʻaho kotoa pē ʻonautolu ʻoku mamahi: ka ʻoku fai kātoanga maʻuaipē ia ʻaia ʻoku loto fiemālie.
All the days of the afflicted [are] evil, And gladness of heart [is] a perpetual banquet.
16 ‌ʻOku lelei lahi hake ʻae meʻa siʻi mo e manavahē kia Sihova, ʻi he koloa lahi ʻoku maʻu mo e kovi.
Better [is] a little with the fear of YHWH, Than much treasure, and tumult with it.
17 ‌ʻOku lelei hake ʻae meʻakai ʻaki ʻae louʻakau pea ai mo e ʻofa, ʻi he kai ha pulu kuo fafanga, kae maʻu mo e fehiʻa.
Better [is] an allowance of green herbs and love there, Than a fatted ox, and hatred with it.
18 ‌ʻOku fakatupu ʻe he tangata faʻa ʻita ʻae feʻiteʻitani: ka ʻoku lolomi ʻae feʻiteʻitani ʻe ia ʻoku fakatotoka ki he ʻita.
A man of fury stirs up contention, And the slow to anger appeases strife.
19 ‌ʻOku tatau ʻae hala ʻoe tangata fakapikopiko mo e ʻā ʻakau talatala: ka ʻoku hangamālie ʻae hala ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
The way of the slothful [is] as a hedge of briers, And the path of the upright is raised up.
20 ‌ʻOku fakafiefiaʻi ʻae tamai ʻe he foha ʻoku poto: ka ʻoku fehiʻa ʻae tangata vale ki heʻene faʻē.
A wise son makes a father glad. And a foolish man is despising his mother.
21 Ko e vale ko e fakafiefia ia kiate ia ʻoku taʻemaʻu ʻae poto: ka ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi he angatonu ʻae tangata ʻoku faʻa ʻilo.
Folly is joy to one lacking heart, And a man of intelligence directs [his] going.
22 ‌ʻOku ʻikai hoko ʻae ngaahi meʻa kuo tuʻutuʻuni, ko e meʻa ʻi he masiva fakakaukau: ka ʻi he tokolahi hono kau fakakaukauʻi ʻoku toki maʻu ai ia.
The making void of purposes [is] without counsel, And in a multitude of counselors it is established.
23 ‌ʻOku maʻu ʻe he tangata ʻae fiefia ʻi he lea ʻa hono ngutu: pea ko e lea ʻoku fai ʻi hono kuonga totonu, hono ʻikai lelei fau ia!
Joy [is] to a man in the answer of his mouth, And a word in its season—how good!
24 ‌ʻOku māʻolunga ʻae hala ʻoe moʻui kiate kinautolu ʻoku poto, koeʻuhi ke nau hao mei heli ʻoku ʻi lalo. (Sheol h7585)
A path of life [is] on high for the wise, To turn aside from Sheol beneath. (Sheol h7585)
25 ‌ʻE fakaʻauha ʻe Sihova ʻae fale ʻoe fielahi: ka ʻe fokotuʻumaʻu ʻe ia ʻae kauhala ʻoe fefine kuo mate hono husepāniti.
YHWH pulls down the house of the proud, And He sets up the border of the widow.
26 Ko e meʻa fakalielia kia Sihova ʻae ngaahi mahalo ʻae angakovi: ka ko e ngaahi lea ʻae māʻoniʻoni ko e ngaahi lea ia ʻoku lelei.
Thoughts of wickedness [are] an abomination to YHWH, And sayings of pleasantness [are] pure.
27 Ko ia ʻoku manumanu ki he koloa, ʻoku fakafiuʻi ʻe ia hono fale ʻoʻona; ka ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki he ngaahi meʻa foaki ʻe moʻui ia.
A dishonest gainer is troubling his house, And whoever is hating gifts lives.
28 ‌ʻOku fakakaukau ʻe he loto ʻoe māʻoniʻoni ʻae lea te ne tali ʻaki: ka ʻoku malingi mei he ngutu ʻoe angahala ʻae ngaahi meʻa kovi.
The heart of the righteous meditates to answer, And the mouth of the wicked utters evil things.
29 ‌ʻOku mamaʻo ʻaupito ʻa Sihova mei he angahala: ka ʻoku ne ongoʻi ʻae lotu ʻae māʻoniʻoni.
YHWH [is] far from the wicked, And He hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 ‌ʻOku fiefia ʻae loto ʻi he maama ʻoe mata: pea ʻoku tupu ʻi he ongoongolelei ʻae huhuʻa ʻoe hui.
The light of the eyes makes the heart glad, A good report makes the bone fat.
31 Ko e telinga ʻoku fakafanongo ki he valoki fakamoʻui, ʻe nofomaʻu ia ʻi he haʻohaʻonga ʻoe poto.
An ear that is hearing the reproof of life Lodges among the wise.
32 Ko ia ʻoku manuki ki he akonaki, ʻoku ne fehiʻa ki hono laumālie ʻoʻona: ka ko ia ʻoku fanongo ki he valoki, ʻoku maʻu ʻe ia ʻae loto poto.
Whoever is refusing instruction is despising his soul, And whoever is hearing reproof Is getting understanding.
33 Ko e manavahē kia Sihova, ko e akonaki ia ʻoe poto; pea ʻoku muʻomuʻa ʻae angavaivai ʻi he hakeakiʻi.
The fear of YHWH [is] the instruction of wisdom, And humility [is] before honor!
