< Lea Fakatātā 11 >
1 Ko e fai kākā ʻi he fakamamafa meʻa ko e fakalielia kia Sihova: ka ʻoku ne leleiʻia ʻi he fakamamafa totonu.
Balances of deceit [are] an abomination to Jehovah, And a perfect weight [is] His delight.
2 ʻOka hoko ʻae fielahi, ʻoku hoko foki mo e mā: ka ʻoku ʻi he angavaivai ʻae poto.
Pride hath come, and shame cometh, And with the lowly [is] wisdom.
3 ʻE fakahinohinoʻi ʻae angatonu ʻe heʻenau fai totonu: ka ʻe fakaʻauha ʻae angahala ʻe heʻenau talangataʻa.
The integrity of the upright leadeth them, And the perverseness of the treacherous destroyeth them.
4 ʻOku ʻikai ʻaonga ʻae koloa ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe houhau: ka ʻoku fakahaofi mei he mate ʻae māʻoniʻoni.
Wealth profiteth not in a day of wrath, And righteousness delivereth from death.
5 ʻE fakatonutonu ʻae hala ʻoe haohaoa ʻi heʻene māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻe hinga ʻae angahala ʻi heʻene angahala ʻaʻana.
The righteousness of the perfect maketh right his way, And by his wickedness doth the wicked fall.
6 ʻE fakamoʻui ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi heʻenau angatonu: ka ʻe moʻua ʻae angahala ʻi heʻenau kovi ʻanautolu.
The righteousness of the upright delivereth them, And in mischief the treacherous are captured.
7 ʻOka mate ʻae tangata angahala, ʻe ʻauha ai ʻene ʻamanaki: pea ʻoku ʻauha mo e ʻamanaki ʻoe taʻeangatonu.
In the death of a wicked man, hope perisheth, And the expectation of the iniquitous hath been lost.
8 ʻOku fakamoʻui ʻae māʻoniʻoni mei he mamahi, pea kuo tongia ia ʻe he tangata angahala.
The righteous from distress is drawn out, And the wicked goeth in instead of him.
9 ʻOku fakamalaʻia ʻe he tangata kākā ʻa hono kāinga ʻaki hono ngutu: ka ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻilo ʻe fakamoʻui ʻae angatonu.
With the mouth a hypocrite corrupteth his friend, And by knowledge the righteous are drawn out.
10 ʻOku fiefia ʻae kolo ʻi he monūʻia ʻae māʻoniʻoni: pea ʻi he mate ʻae angahala ʻoku ai ʻae mavava.
In the good of the righteous a city exulteth, And in the destruction of the wicked [is] singing.
11 ʻOku hakeakiʻi ʻae kolo ʻi he tāpuaki ʻoe angatonu: ka ʻoku holoki hifo ia ʻe he ngutu ʻoe angahala.
By the blessing of the upright is a city exalted, And by the mouth of the wicked thrown down.
12 Ko ia ʻoku masiva poto ʻoku ne fehiʻa ki hono kaungāʻapi: ka ʻoku fakalongo pē ʻae tangata poto.
Whoso is despising his neighbour lacketh heart, And a man of understanding keepeth silence.
13 ʻOku fakahā ʻae ngaahi tala fufū ʻe ia ʻoku fakalanga lau: ka ko ia ʻoku loto totonu ʻoku ne ʻufiʻufi ʻae meʻa.
A busybody is revealing secret counsel, And the faithful of spirit is covering the matter.
14 ʻI he ʻikai ha faʻa fakakaukau ʻoku hinga ʻae kakai: ka ʻoku ai ʻae maluʻi ʻi he fakakaukau ʻae toko lahi.
Without counsels do a people fall, And deliverance [is] in a multitude of counsellors.
15 Ko ia ʻoku ne tongia ha taha foʻou ʻe mamahi ai ia: pea ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ke fai ʻae fetongi ʻe tuʻutuʻumālie ia.
Evil [one] suffereth when he hath been surety [for] a stranger, And whoso is hating suretyship is confident.
16 ʻOku maʻu ʻi he fefine angalelei ʻae ongoongolelei: pea ʻoku maʻu pe ki he kakai mālohi ʻenau koloa.
A gracious woman retaineth honour, And terrible [men] retain riches.
17 ʻOku fai lelei ʻe he tangata angaʻofa ki hono laumālie ʻoʻona: ka ko ia ʻoka anga fakamālohi ʻoku ne fakamamahiʻi hono kakano ʻoʻona.
A kind man is rewarding his own soul, And the fierce is troubling his own flesh.
18 ʻOku fai ʻe he angahala ʻae ngāue fakakākaaʻi: ka ʻe maʻu ʻae totongi moʻoni ʻe ia ʻoku tūtuuʻi ʻae māʻoniʻoni.
The wicked is getting a lying wage, And whoso is sowing righteousness — a true reward.
19 ʻO hangē ʻoku fakatau ʻae māʻoniʻoni ki he moʻui: ʻoku pehē, ko ia ʻoku tulituli pau ki he kovi ʻoku ne fai ia ke ne mate ai ia.
Rightly [is] righteousness for life, And whoso is pursuing evil — for his own death.
20 Ko kinautolu ʻoku loto pikopiko ʻoku fakalielia kia Sihova: ka ʻoku fiemālie ia ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku totonu honau hala.
An abomination to Jehovah [are] the perverse of heart, And the perfect of the way [are] His delight.
21 Neongo ʻae fepukeaki ʻae nima ʻoe kakai angahala ʻe ʻikai taʻetautea ʻakinautolu: ka ʻe fakamoʻui ʻae hako ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
Hand to hand, the wicked is not acquitted, And the seed of the righteous hath escaped.
22 ʻO hangē ko e mama koula ʻi he ihu ʻoe puaka, ʻoku pehē ʻae fefine hoihoifua ʻoku ʻikai ke anga fakapotopoto.
A ring of gold in the nose of a sow — A fair woman and stubborn of behaviour.
23 ʻOku lelei maʻu pe ʻae holi ʻae kakai māʻoniʻoni: ka ko e houhau ʻoku ʻamanaki ki ai ʻae angahala.
The desire of the righteous [is] only good, The hope of the wicked [is] transgression.
24 ʻOku ai ʻaia ʻoku faʻa foaki, kae maʻu ai ʻo lahi: pea ʻoku ai ʻoku taʻofi ʻi he meʻa ʻoku totonu ke fai, ka ʻoku tupu ai ʻa ʻene masiva.
There is who is scattering, and yet is increased, And who is keeping back from uprightness, only to want.
25 ʻE fakamaʻumeʻaʻi ʻae loto ʻoku faʻa ʻofa: pea ko ia ʻoku faʻa fakaviviku ʻe fakaviviku ia foki.
A liberal soul is made fat, And whoso is watering, he also is watered.
26 ʻE fakamalaʻia ia ʻe he kakai ʻaia ʻoku taʻofi ʻae meʻakai: ka ʻe hilifaki ʻae monūʻia ki hono ʻulu ʻaia ʻoku faʻa fakatau ia.
Whoso is withholding corn, the people execrate him, And a blessing [is] for the head of him who is selling.
27 ʻOku maʻu ʻae ongoongolelei ʻe ia ʻoku kumi fakamātoato ki he lelei: ka ko ia ʻoku kumi ki he kovi, ʻe hoko mai pe ia kiate ia.
Whoso is earnestly seeking good Seeketh a pleasing thing, And whoso is seeking evil — it meeteth him.
28 ʻE hinga ia ʻaia ʻoku falala ki heʻene koloa: ka ʻe tupu ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻo hangē ko e vaʻa.
Whoso is confident in his wealth he falleth, And as a leaf, the righteous flourish.
29 Ko ia ʻoku faʻa fakafiuʻi ʻa hono fale ʻoʻona, ʻe maʻu pe ʻe ia ʻae matangi: pea ʻe hoko ʻae vale ko e tamaioʻeiki kiate ia ʻoku poto hono loto.
Whoso is troubling his own house inheriteth wind, And a servant [is] the fool to the wise of heart.
30 Ko e fua ʻoe māʻoniʻoni ʻoku hangē ko e ʻakau ʻoe moʻui; pea ko ia ʻoku lavaʻi ʻae ngaahi laumālie ʻoku poto ia.
The fruit of the righteous [is] a tree of life, And whoso is taking souls [is] wise.
31 Vakai, ʻe maʻu totongi ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi he māmani: ka ʻe lahi hake ʻene maʻu totongi ʻe he angakovi mo e angahala.
Lo, the righteous in the earth is recompensed, Surely also the wicked and the sinner!
