1 Ko e ngaahi lea fakatātā ʻa Solomone. ʻOku fakafiefiaʻi ʻae tamai ʻe he foha ʻoku poto: ka ko e tama vale ko e fakaongosia ia ki heʻene faʻē.
THE PARABLE OF SALOMON. A wise sonne maketh a glad father: but a foolish sonne is an heauines to his mother.
2 ʻOku ʻikai ʻaonga ʻae koloa ʻoe angahala ka ʻoku fakamoʻui mei he mate ʻe he māʻoniʻoni.
The treasures of wickednesse profite nothing: but righteousnesse deliuereth from death.
3 ʻE ʻikai tuku ʻe Sihova ke fiekaia ʻae laumālie ʻoe māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻoku liʻaki ʻe ia ʻae koloa ʻae angahala.
The Lord will not famish the soule of the righteous: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
4 Ko ia ʻoku fai ʻaki ʻae nima vaivai ʻe fakaʻaʻau ia ke masiva: ka ʻoku fakakoloaʻia ʻe he nima ʻoku faʻa ngāue.
A slouthfull hand maketh poore: but the hand of the diligent maketh riche.
5 Ko e foha poto ia ʻaia ʻoku utu mai ʻi he faʻahitaʻu mafana: ka ko ia ʻoku mohe ʻi he lolotonga ʻae ututaʻu ko e foha ia ʻoku [tau ]mā ai.
He that gathereth in sommer, is the sonne of wisdome: but he that sleepeth in haruest, is the sonne of confusion.
6 ʻOku hilifaki ʻae ngaahi tāpuaki ki he ʻulu ʻoe angatonu: ka ʻoku tāpuni ʻaki ʻae fakamālohi ʻae ngutu ʻoe angakovi.
Blessings are vpon the head of the righteous: but iniquitie shall couer the mouth of the wicked.
7 ʻOku monūʻia ʻae fakamanatu ki he angatonu: ka ʻe popo ʻae hingoa ʻoe angahala.
The memoriall of the iust shalbe blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rotte.
8 ʻE maʻu ʻae ngaahi fekau ʻekinautolu ʻoku loto poto: ka ʻe hinga ʻae vale ʻoku faʻa lau.
The wise in heart will receiue commandements: but the foolish in talke shalbe beaten.
9 ʻOku ʻalu mālohi ia ʻaia ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi he angatonu: ka ko ia ʻoku femioʻaki hono ngaahi hala ʻe ʻiloa ia.
He that walketh vprightly, walketh boldely: but he that peruerteth his wayes, shalbe knowen.
10 ʻOku tupu ʻae mamahi ʻiate ia ʻoku kakamo ʻaki hono mata: pea ʻe hinga ʻae vale ʻoku faʻa lau.
He that winketh with the eye, worketh sorowe, and he yet is foolish in talke, shalbe beaten.
11 Ko e ngutu ʻoe tangata māʻoniʻoni ko e matavai ʻoe moʻui: ka ʻoku tāpuni ʻaki ʻae fakamālohi ʻae ngutu ʻoe angakovi.
The mouth of a righteous man is a welspring of life: but iniquitie couereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 ʻOku tupu mei he fehiʻa ʻae fekeʻikeʻi: ka ʻoku ʻufiʻufi ʻe he ʻofa ʻae angahala kotoa pē.
Hatred stirreth vp contentions: but loue couereth all trespasses.
13 ʻOku ʻilo ʻae poto ʻi he loungutu ʻoʻona ʻoku faʻa ʻilo: ka ko e meʻa tā ki he tuʻa ʻoʻona ʻoku masiva fakakaukau.
In the lippes of him that hath vnderstanding wisdome is founde, and a rod shalbe for the backe of him that is destitute of wisedome.
14 ʻOku tokonaki ʻe he kakai poto ʻae ʻilo: ka ʻoku ofi ʻae ngutu ʻoe vale ki he fakaʻauha.
Wise men lay vp knowledge: but ye mouth of the foole is a present destruction.
15 Ko e kolo mālohi ʻoe tangata koloaʻia ko ʻene koloa: ka ʻe ʻauha ʻae masiva ko ʻenau masiva.
The riche mans goodes are his strong citie: but the feare of the needie is their pouertie.
16 ʻOku tautonu ki he moʻui ʻae ngāue ʻae māʻoniʻoni: ka ko e fua ʻoe kakai angakovi ki he angahala.
The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: but the reuenues of the wicked to sinne.
17 Ko ia ʻoku ne maʻu ʻae tala fakapoto ʻoku ʻi he hala ki he moʻui: ka ko ia ʻoku liʻaki ʻae valoki ʻoku hē ia.
He that regardeth instruction, is in the way of life: but he that refuseth correction, goeth out of the way.
18 Ko ia ʻoku fufū ʻene fehiʻa ʻaki ʻae loungutu loi, mo ia ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae meʻa fakakoviʻi, ʻoku fakatou vale.
He that dissembleth hatred with lying lips, and he that inuenteth slaunder, is a foole.
19 ʻI he lahi ʻoe lea ʻoku ʻikai ke masiva ia ʻi he angahala: ka ko e poto ia ʻaia ʻoku taʻofi ki hono loungutu.
In many wordes there cannot want iniquitie: but he that refrayneth his lippes, is wise.
20 ʻOku tatau mo e siliva lelei ʻae ʻelelo ʻoe angatonu: ka ʻoku taʻeʻaonga ʻae loto ʻoe angahala.
The tongue of the iust man is as fined siluer: but the heart of the wicked is litle worth.
21 ʻOku fafangaʻi ʻae toko lahi ʻe he loungutu ʻoe māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻoku mate ʻae kakai vale koe meʻa ʻi heʻenau masiva poto.
The lippes of the righteous doe feede many: but fooles shall die for want of wisedome.
22 Ko e tāpuaki meia Sihova, ʻoku ne fakamaʻumeʻaʻi, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ne ʻomi mo ia ha mamahi.
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh riche, and he doeth adde no sorowes with it.
23 ʻOku hangē ko e meʻa vaʻinga ki he vale ʻa ʻene fai kovi: ka ʻoku ʻi he tangata faʻa fakakaukau ʻae poto.
It is as a pastime to a foole to doe wickedly: but wisedome is vnderstanding to a man.
24 ʻE hoko mai pe ki he angahala ʻa ʻene manavahē: ka ʻe foaki ki he māʻoniʻoni ʻae meʻa ʻoku ne holi ki ai.
That which the wicked feareth, shall come vpon him: but God wil graunt the desire of the righteous.
25 ʻO hangē ko e mole atu ʻae ʻahiohio, ʻoku pehē ʻae angahala: ka ʻoku ʻi he māʻoniʻoni ʻae tuʻunga taʻengata.
As the whirlewinde passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is as an euerlasting foundation.
26 ʻO hangē ko e vaimahi ki he nifo, mo e ʻohuafi ki he mata, ʻoku pehē ʻae fakapikopiko kiate kinautolu ʻoku nau fekaua ia.
As vineger is to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the slouthful to them that send him.
27 ʻOku fakalahi ʻae ngaahi ʻaho ʻe he manavahē kia Sihova: ka ʻe fakanounou ʻae ngaahi taʻu ʻoe angahala.
The feare of the Lord increaseth the dayes: but the yeeres of the wicked shalbe diminished.
28 Ko e ʻamanaki lelei ʻoe māʻoniʻoni ko e fiefia ia: ka ʻe ʻauha ʻae ʻamanaki ʻoe angahala.
The patient abiding of the righteous shall be gladnesse: but the hope of the wicked shall perish.
29 Ko e hala ʻo Sihova ko e mālohi ia ki he angatonu: ka ʻe hoko ʻae fakaʻauha kiate kinautolu ʻoku ngāue ʻi he angahala.
The way of the Lord is strength to the vpright man: but feare shall be for the workers of iniquitie.
30 ʻE ʻikai ʻaupito faʻa ueʻi ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻo taʻengata: pea ʻe ʻikai nofo ʻi māmani ʻae kakai angahala.
The righteous shall neuer be remooued: but the wicked shall not dwell in the land.
31 ʻOku ʻomi mei he ngutu ʻoe angatonu ʻae poto: ka ʻe motuhi ʻae ʻelelo ʻoe talangataʻa.
The mouth of the iust shall be fruitfull in wisdome: but the tongue of the froward shall be cut out.
32 ʻOku ʻilo ʻe he loungutu ʻoe māʻoniʻoni ʻae meʻa ʻoku lelei: ka ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae kovi ʻe he ngutu ʻoe angahala.
The lips of the righteous knowe what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh froward things.
