1 Pea ko e kau mātuʻa ko e tamai ʻae ngaahi faʻahinga ʻoe fānau ʻa Kiliati ko e foha ʻo Mekili ko e foha ia ʻo Manase, ʻoe ngaahi faʻahinga ʻoe fānau ʻa Siosefa, naʻa nau ʻunuʻunu mai ʻonau lea ʻi he ʻao ʻo Mōsese, mo e ʻao ʻoe houʻeiki, ko e kau mātuʻa tuʻukimuʻa ʻi he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli:
The heads of the fathers’ households of the family of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near and spoke before Moses and before the princes, the heads of the fathers’ households of the children of Israel.
2 Pea naʻa nau pehē, “Naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova ki heʻeku ʻeiki ke foaki ʻae fonua ʻi he talotalo, ko e tofiʻa ki he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli: pea naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova ki heʻeku ʻeiki ke foaki ʻae tofiʻa ʻo Silofitati ko homau tokoua ki hono ngaahi ʻofefine.
They said, “The LORD commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the children of Israel. My lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother to his daughters.
3 Pea kapau tenau mali mo e niʻihi ʻi he ngaahi foha ʻoe ngaahi faʻahinga ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻe toki tō ai honau tofiʻa mei he tofiʻa ʻo ʻemau ngaahi tamai, pea ʻe tuku ia ki he tofiʻa ʻoe faʻahinga ʻaia kuo nau ʻalu ki ai: pea ʻe mole pehē ia mei he talotalo ʻo homau tofiʻa.
If they are married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of our fathers, and will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they shall belong. So it will be taken away from the lot of our inheritance.
4 Pea ʻoka hoko ʻae siupeli ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻe lau ai honau tofiʻa ki he tofiʻa ʻoe faʻahinga ʻaia kuo nau maʻu ʻakinautolu: pea ʻe mole pehē ʻa honau tofiʻa mei he tofiʻa ʻoe faʻahinga ʻo ʻemau ngaahi tamai.”
When the jubilee of the children of Israel comes, then their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they shall belong. So their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.”
5 Pea naʻe fekau ʻe Mōsese ki he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻo fakatatau ki he folofola ʻa Sihova, ʻo ne pehē, “Kuo lea totonu ʻae faʻahinga ʻoe ngaahi foha ʻo Siosefa.
Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the LORD’s word, saying, “The tribe of the sons of Joseph speak what is right.
6 Ko e meʻa eni kuo fekau ʻe Sihova koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi ʻofefine ʻo Silofitati, ʻo pehē, Tuku ʻakinautolu kenau fakamaʻu mo kinautolu ʻoku nau manako ki ai; ka tenau fakamaʻu ʻi he fānau ʻoe faʻahinga pe ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai.
This is the thing which the LORD commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, ‘Let them be married to whom they think best, only they shall marry into the family of the tribe of their father.
7 Pea ko ia ʻe ʻikai hiki ai ʻae tofiʻa ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli mei ha faʻahinga ki ha faʻahinga: ka tenau taki taha pikitai ki he tofiʻa ʻoe faʻahinga ʻo ʻene ngaahi tamai.
So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel move from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall all keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
8 Pea ko e ʻofefine kotoa pē, ʻoku ne maʻu ha tofiʻa ʻi ha faʻahinga ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻe hoko ia ko e uaifi ʻo ha tokotaha ʻi he fānau ʻoe faʻahinga ʻo ʻene tamai, koeʻuhi ke maʻu ʻe he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻe he tangata taki taha ʻae tofiʻa ʻo ʻene ngaahi tamai.
Every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel shall be wife to one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may each possess the inheritance of his fathers.
9 Kaeʻoua ʻe hiki ʻae tofiʻa mei ha faʻahinga ʻe taha ki ha faʻahinga kehe; kae taki taha pikitai ʻae faʻahinga ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ki hono tofiʻa ʻoʻona.”
So shall no inheritance move from one tribe to another tribe; for the tribes of the children of Israel shall each keep his own inheritance.’”
10 ‌ʻO hangē ko ia naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova kia Mōsese, naʻe fai pehē ʻae ngaahi ʻofefine ʻo Silofitati:
The daughters of Zelophehad did as the LORD commanded Moses:
11 He naʻe fakamaʻu ʻa Mala, mo Tilisa, mo Hokila, mo Milika, mo Noa, ko e ngaahi ʻofefine ʻo Silofitati, mo e ngaahi foha ʻoe tokoua ʻo ʻenau tamai.
for Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married to their father’s brothers’ sons.
12 Pea naʻa nau fakamaʻu ki he ngaahi fānau ʻoe ngaahi foha ʻo Manase ko e foha ʻo Siosefa, pea naʻe maʻu honau tofiʻa ʻi he faʻahinga ʻoe fānau ʻo ʻenau tamai.
They were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph. Their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.
13 Ko e ngaahi fekau eni mo e ngaahi fono, ʻaia naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova ʻi he nima ʻo Mōsese ki he fanau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻi he ngaahi potu tafangafanga ʻo Moape ʻoku ofi ki Soatani, pea ofi ki Seliko.
These are the commandments and the ordinances which the LORD commanded by Moses to the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
