It came about after the plague that Yahweh spoke to Moses and Eleazar son of Aaron the priest. He said,

These were the clans of Gad's descendants, who numbered 40,500 men.

Judah's sons were Er and Onan, but these men died in the land of Canaan.

The clans of Joseph's descendants were Manasseh and Ephraim.

through Asriel, the clan of the Asrielites, through Shechem, the clan of the Shechemites,

through Shemida, the clan of the Shemidaites, through Hepher, the clan of the Hepherites.

33 Pea naʻe ʻikai ha ngaahi foha ʻo Silofitati ko e foha ʻo Hefeli, ka ko e ngaahi ʻofefine pe: pea ko e hingoa eni ʻoe ngaahi ʻofefine ʻo Silofitati, ko Mala, mo Noa, mo Hokila, mo Milika, mo Tilisa.

Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons, but only daughters. The names of his daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah, and Tirzah.

These were the clans of Manasseh, who numbered 52,700 men.

The clans of Ephraim's descendants were these: Through Shuthelah, the clan of the Shuthelahites, through Beker, the clan of the Bekerites, through Tahan, the clan of the Tahanites.

36 Pea ko e ngaahi foha eni ʻo Sutila: ʻia ʻElani, ʻae faʻahinga ʻoe kau ʻElani.

The descendants of Shuthelah were, by Eran, the clan of the Eranites.

These were the clans of Ephraim's descendants, who numbered 32,500 men. These were Joseph's descendants, counted in each of their clans.

38 Ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Penisimani ʻi honau ngaahi faʻahinga: ʻIa Pila, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Pila: ʻia ʻAsipeli, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau ʻAsipeli: ʻia ʻEhilami, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau ʻEhilami:

The clans of Benjamin's descendants were these: Through Bela, the clan of the Belaites, through Ashbel, the clan of the Ashbelites, through Ahiram, the clan of the Ahiramites,

39 Pea ʻia Sifufami, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Sifufami: ʻia Hufami, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Hufami.

through Shephupham, the clan of the Shuphamites, through Hupham, the clan of the Huphamites.

40 Pea ko e ongo foha ʻo Pila, ko ʻAliti mo Neamani: ʻia ʻAliti ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau ʻAliti: pea ʻia Neamani, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Neamani.

Bela's sons were Ard and Naaman. From Ard came the clan of the Ardites, and from Naaman came the clan of the Naamites.

The clans of Dan's descendants were, by Shuham, the clans of the Shuhamites. These were the clans of Dan's descendants.

The clans of Asher's descendants were these: Through Imnah, the clan of the Imnites, through Ishvi, the clan of the Ishvites, through Beriah, the clan of the Beriites.

45 Ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Pelia: ʻIa Hepa, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Hepa: ʻia Malikieli, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Malikieli.

The descendants of Beriah were these: Through Heber, the clan of the Heberites, through Malkiel, the clan of the Malkielites.

46 Pea ko e hingoa ʻoe ʻofefine ʻo ʻAseli ko Sela.

The name of Asher's daughter was Serah.

47 Ko e ngaahi faʻahinga eni ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻAseli, ʻo fakatatau mo kinautolu naʻe lau meiate kinautolu; ko e toko nima mano mo e toko tolu afe ma fāngeau.

These were the clans of Asher's descendants, who numbered 53,400 men.

48 Ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Nafitali ʻi honau ngaahi faʻahinga: ʻIa Saseile, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Saseile: ʻia Kuni, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Kuni:

The clans of Naphtali's descendants were these: Through Jahzeel, the clan of the Jahzeelites, through Guni, the clan of the Gunites,

49 ‌ʻIa Seseli ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Seseli: ʻia Silemi, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Silemi.

through Jezer, the clan of the Jezerites, through Shillem, the clan of the Shillemites.

50 Ko e ngaahi fānau eni ʻo Nafitali ʻi honau ngaahi faʻahinga: pea ko kinautolu naʻe lau meiate kinautolu ko e toko fā mano mo e toko nima afe ma fāngeau.

These were the clans of Naphtali's descendants, who numbered 45,400 men.

51 Ko kinautolu ni naʻe lau ʻi he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ko e toko ono kilu, mo e toko taha afe, mo e toko fitungeau ma tolungofulu.

This was the complete count of men among the people of Israel: 601,730.

52 Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese, ʻo pehē,

Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,

53 “ʻE tufa ʻae fonua kiate kinautolu ni ko e tofiʻa, ʻo fakatatau ki hono lau ʻoe ngaahi hingoa.

“The land must be divided among these men as an inheritance according to the number of their names.

54 Ke ke foaki ʻae tofiʻa lahi ki he kakai tokolahi, pea mo e tofiʻa siʻi ki he kakai tokosiʻi: ʻe foaki ʻa hono tofiʻa taki taha ʻo fakatatau mo kinautolu naʻe lau ʻiate ia.

To the larger clans you must give more inheritance, and to the smaller clans you must give less inheritance. To every family you must give an inheritance according to the number of men who were counted.

55 Ka neongo ia ʻe tufa ʻae fonua ʻi he talotalo: pea tenau maʻu ia ʻo fakatatau ki he hingoa ʻoe faʻahinga ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai.

However, the land must be divided by random lots. They must inherit the land as it will be divided among their ancestors' tribes.

Their inheritance must be divided among the larger and the smaller clans, distributed to them by random lot.”

57 Pea ko kinautolu eni naʻe lau ʻoe kau Livai ʻi honau ngaahi faʻahinga: ʻIa Kesoni, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Kesoni: ʻia Kohate, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Kohate: ʻia Melali, ko e faʻahinga ʻoe kau Melali.

The Levite clans, counted clan by clan, were these: Through Gershon, the clan of the Gershonites, through Kohath, the clan of the Kohathites, through Merari, the clan of the Merarites.

The clans of Levi were these: the clan of the Libnites, the clan of the Hebronites, the clan of the Mahlites, the clan of the Mushites, and the clan of the Korahites. Kohath was the Amram's ancestor.

59 Pea ko e hingoa ʻoe uaifi ʻo ʻAmilami ko Sokapeti ko e ʻofefine ʻo Livai ʻaia naʻe fanauʻi ʻe heʻene faʻē kia Livai ʻi ʻIsipite: pea naʻe fanauʻi ʻe ia kia ʻAmilami ʻa ʻElone mo Mōsese, mo Miliame ko hona tuofefine.

The name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, a descendant of Levi, who was born to Levites in Egypt. She bore to Amram their children, who were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam their sister.

60 Pea naʻe fanauʻi kia ʻElone ʻa Natapi, mo ʻApiu, mo ʻEliesa, mo ʻItama.

To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

61 Pea naʻe mate ʻa Natapi mo ʻApiu ʻi heʻena ʻatu ʻae afi ʻikai tapu ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova.

Nadab and Abihu died when they offered before Yahweh unacceptable fire.

62 Pea ko kinautolu naʻe lau meiate kinautolu ko e toko ua mano mo e toko tolu afe, ko e kakai tangata kotoa pē mei hono taha māhina ʻo fai hake: he naʻe ʻikai lau ʻakinautolu ʻi he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai foaki ha tofiʻa kiate kinautolu ʻi he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli.

The males who were counted among them numbered twenty-three thousand, all males one month old and up. But they were not counted among Israel's descendants because no inheritance was given to them among the people of Israel.

These are the ones who were counted by Moses and Eleazar the priest. They counted the people of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.

64 Ka naʻe ʻikai ha tangata ʻiate kinautolu ni naʻe lau ʻe Mōsese mo ʻElone ko e taulaʻeiki, ʻi heʻena lau ʻae fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻi he toafa ʻo Sainai.

But among these there was no man who had been counted by Moses and Aaron the priest when the descendants of Israel were counted in the wilderness of Sinai.

65 He naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova ʻiate kinautolu, Ko e moʻoni tenau mate ʻi he toafa. Pea naʻe ʻikai ha tangata ʻe toe ʻiate kinautolu, ka ko Kelepi ko e foha ʻo Sifune, mo Siosiua, ko e foha ʻo Nuni.

For Yahweh had said that all of those people would certainly die in the wilderness. There was not a man left among them, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
