1 Ko e tala mamafa ki Ninive. Ko e tohi ʻoe meʻa hā mai kia Nehumi, ko e tangata ʻElikosi.
The doom of Nineveh, The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2 ‌ʻOku fuaʻa ʻae ʻOtua, pea ʻoku totongi ʻe Sihova; ʻoku totongi ʻe Sihova, pea ʻoku houhau vela ia; ʻe totongi ʻe Sihova ki hono ngaahi fili, pea ʻoku ne fakatoe [ʻae houhau ]maʻa hono ngaahi fili.
A God watchful and avenging is the Lord; an avenger is the Lord, and full of fury; the Lord taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and keepeth in mind the deeds of his enemies.
3 ‌ʻOku tuai ʻa Sihova ki he houhau, mo lahi ʻi he mālohi, pea ʻe ʻikai siʻi fakatonuhiaʻi ʻa e [angahala]: ʻoku ai ʻae hāʻeleʻanga ʻo Sihova ʻi he ʻahiohio, pea ʻi he afā, pea ko e ngaahi ʻao, ko e efu ia ʻo hono vaʻe.
The Lord is long-suffering, and great in power, but he will by no means clear the guilty: the Lord—in the whirlwind and in the storm is his way, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 ‌ʻOku ne valokiʻi ʻae tahi, pea ʻoku ne fakamōmoaʻi ia, pea ʻoku ne fakamatuʻu ʻae ngaahi vaitafe kotoa pē; ʻoku mae ʻa Pesani, mo Kameli, mo e kakala ʻo Lepanoni ʻoku mae.
He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and all the rivers he drieth up: Bashan then withereth, with Carmel, and the flowers of Lebanon wither.
5 ‌ʻOku ngalulu ʻae ngaahi moʻunga koeʻuhi ko ia, pea ʻoku vai ʻae ngaahi tafungofunga, pea ʻoku vela ʻa māmani ʻi hono ʻao, ʻio, ʻa māmani mo kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku nofo ai.
Mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away; and the earth is lifted up at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
6 Ko hai ʻe faʻa tuʻu ʻi he ʻao ʻo hono houhau? Pea ko hai ʻe tuʻumaʻu ʻoka ne ka houhau vela? ʻoku huaʻi ʻene lili hangē ko e afi, pea ʻoku ne lī hifo ʻae ngaahi maka lalahi.
Before his indignation who can stand? and who can subsist before the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken down by him.
7 ‌ʻOku lelei ʻa Sihova, ko e hūfanga mālohi ia ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe mamahi; pea ʻoku ne ʻiloʻi ʻakinautolu ʻoku falala kiate ia.
The Lord is good, a strong-hold on the day of distress; and he knoweth those that trust in him.
8 Ka ʻi he fuʻu malofa te ne fakaʻauha ʻaupito ʻa hono potu, pea ʻe tuli ʻe he poʻuli ʻa hono ngaahi fili.
But with an overflowing flood will he utterly destroy the place of [Nineveh], and his enemies will he pursue with darkness.
9 Ko e hā ʻoku mou filioʻi kia Sihova? Te ne fakaʻauha ʻaupito; ʻe ʻikai toe tupu ʻae mamahi ʻo liunga ua.
What will you devise against the Lord? he is bringing about an utter destruction, the distress shall not rise up twice.
10 He lolotonga ʻenau fepikitaki, ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi ʻakau talatala, pea ʻi heʻenau kei kona, hangē ha kau kona, ʻe vela ʻo ʻosi ʻakinautolu, ʻo hangē ko e veve kuo mōmoa ʻaupito.
For they, like thorns interwoven, and as men made drunken in their drinking bout, shall be entirely consumed as dry stubble.
11 Kuo tupu ha tokotaha meiate koe ʻoku filioʻi kovi kia Sihova, ko e tangata ako kovi.
There is gone forth out of thee he that devised evil against the Lord, the counsellor of infamous things.
12 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Neongo ʻoku longo pe mo tokolahi foki, ʻe pehē ʻae tuʻusi hifo ʻakinautolu, ʻoka ne ka laka atu. Neongo kuo u fakamamahiʻi koe, ʻe ʻikai te u toe fakamamahiʻi koe.
Thus hath said the Lord, Though they be complete, and ever so many, nevertheless shall they be cut down, and it shall be over [with them]: and if even I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
13 He ko eni, te u maumauʻi ʻa ʻene haʻamonga meiate koe, pea motuhi ho ngaahi haʻi.”
For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and thy bonds will I tear asunder.
14 Pea kuo tuku ʻe Sihova ha fekau kiate koe, “Ke ʻoua naʻa toe tūtuuʻi ha niʻihi ʻi ho hingoa: mei he fale ʻo ho ngaahi ʻotua, te u motuhi ʻae tamapua kuo tongi, mo e tamapua kuo haka: te u keli ho tanuʻanga, he ʻoku ke kovi.”
But against thee hath the Lord decreed, that no heir of thy name shall be any more: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven and the molten image; I will prepare thy grave [there]; for thou art made vile.
15 Vakai, ʻi he ngaahi moʻunga ʻae vaʻe ʻo ia ʻoku ʻomi ʻae ongoongolelei, ʻaia ʻoku fakahā ʻae melino! ʻE Siuta, tauhi ki hoʻo ngaahi kātoanga mamafa, fai hoʻo ngaahi fuakava: koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai kei laka ʻiate koe ʻae angahala; kuo motuhi ʻaupito ia.
Behold, upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace, Celebrate thy feasts, O Judah, fulfill thy vows; for never more shall the wicked pass again through thee, he is utterly cut off.
