1 Pea kuo fakaʻosi ʻe Sisu ʻae ngaahi akonaki ni kotoa pē, pea pehē ʻe ia ki heʻene kau ākonga,
AND it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
2 “ʻOku mou ʻilo ka hili ʻae ʻaho ʻe ua ʻe hoko ʻa e [kātoanga ʻoe ]Lakaatu, pea ʻe lavakiʻi ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata ke tutuki ki he ʻakau.”
Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
3 Pea toki fakataha ai ʻae kau taulaʻeiki lahi, mo e kau tangata tohi, mo e kau mātuʻa ʻoe kakai, ki he fale ʻoe taulaʻeiki lahi naʻe ui ko Kaiafasi,
Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
4 ʻonau fakakaukau pe fēfē ʻenau puke ia, kae tāmateʻi [ia]?
And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
5 Ka naʻa nau pehē, “Kae ʻikai ʻi he kātoanga, telia naʻa ai ha maveuveu ʻi he kakai.”
But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
6 Pea naʻe ʻi Pētani ʻa Sisu, ʻi he fale ʻo Saimone ko e kilia,
Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 Mo ʻene haʻu kiate ia ha fefine, naʻe ʻomi ʻae puha ʻalapasita ʻoe lolo mahuʻinga lahi ʻaupito, ʻo ne lilingi ia ki hono fofonga, ʻi heʻene nofo ʻo taumafa.
There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
9 He naʻe mei fakatau ʻae lolo ni ʻaki ʻae koloa lahi, pea foaki ia ki he masiva.”
For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10 Pea kuo ʻiloʻi ʻe Sisu, pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “Ko e hā ʻoku mou fakamamahi ai ki he fefine? He kuo fai ʻe ia ʻae ngāue lelei kiate au.
When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
11 He ʻoku ʻiate kimoutolu maʻuaipē ʻae masiva; ka ʻoku ʻikai te mou maʻu maʻuaipē au.
For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12 Koeʻuhi ʻi heʻene lilingi ʻae lolo ni ki hoku sino, kuo ne fai ia ko e teu ki hoku putu.
For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
13 Ko ʻeku tala moʻoni atu kiate kimoutolu, Ko e potu kotoa pē ʻo māmani ʻe malangaʻaki ai ʻae ongoongolelei ni, ʻe fakahā ai foki ʻaia kuo fai ʻe he fefine ni, ko hono fakamanatuʻi.”
Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
14 Pea toki ʻalu ki he kau taulaʻeiki lahi ha taha ʻoe toko hongofulu ma toko ua, naʻe ui ko Siutasi ʻIsikaliote,
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 ʻo ne pehē, “Ko e hā te mou ʻomi kiate au, kau lavakiʻi ia kiate kimoutolu?” Pea nau alea mo ia ki he konga siliva ʻe tolungofulu.
And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 Pea talu mei ai mo ʻene lamasi ia ke tuʻumālie ʻa hono lavakiʻi.
And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17 Pea naʻe haʻu kia Sisu ʻae kau ākonga ʻi he ʻuluaki [ʻaho ]ʻoe mā taʻemeʻafakatupu, ʻonau pehē kiate ia, “ʻOku ke loto ke mau teuteu ʻi fē ke ke kai ai ʻi he Lakaatu.”
Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 Pea pehē ʻe ia, “Mou ō ki he tangata ko ia ʻi he kolo, ʻo tala kiate ia, ‘ʻOku pehē mai ʻae ʻEiki, “Kuo ofi hoku ʻaho, pea te mau kai ʻae Lakaatu ʻi ho fale mo ʻeku kau ākonga.”’”
And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
19 Pea naʻe fai ʻe he kau ākonga ʻo hangē ko e fekau ʻa Sisu kiate kinautolu; pea nau teu ʻa e [kātoanga ʻoe ]Lakaatu.
And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20 Pea kuo hoko ʻae efiafi, pea nofo ia mo e toko hongofulu ma toko ua.
Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
21 Pea ʻi heʻenau kai, naʻe pehē ʻe ia, “Ko ʻeku tala moʻoni atu kiate kimoutolu, ʻe lavakiʻi au ʻe homou tokotaha.”
And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 Pea naʻa nau mamahi lahi, ʻonau taki taha kamata fehuʻi kiate ia, [ʻo pehē], “ʻEiki, ko au ia?”
And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
23 Pea lea ia ʻo pehē, “Ko ia ʻokuma ʻai mo au homa nima ki he ipu kai, ko ia ia te ne lavakiʻi au.
And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
24 ʻOku ʻalu ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata ʻo hangē ko ia kuo tohi kiate ia: kae malaʻia ʻae tangata ko ia ʻaia ʻoku lavakiʻi ai ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata! Naʻe lelei ki he tangata ko ia ʻoka ne ʻikai fanauʻi ia.”
The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
25 Pea toki lea ʻa Siutasi, ʻaia ne lavakiʻi ia, ʻo pehēange, “ʻEiki, ko au ia?” Pea talaange ʻe ia kiate ia, “Ko ia pe.”
Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26 Pea ʻi heʻenau kai, naʻe toʻo ʻe Sisu ʻae mā, ʻo ne fakafetaʻi, mo tofitofi, pea ʻatu ki he kau ākonga, ʻo ne pehē, “Toʻo, ʻo kai; ko eni hoku sino.”
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 Pea ne toʻo ʻae ipu inu, ʻo fakafetaʻi, pea ʻoatu kiate kinautolu, mo ne pehē, “Mou inu ai kotoa pē:
And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 He ko hoku toto eni ʻoe fuakava foʻou, ʻaia ʻoku lilingi ke fakamolemole ai ʻae angahala ʻae tokolahi.
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 Ka ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, Ngata heni, ʻe ʻikai te u toe inu ʻi he fua ni ʻoe vaine, kaeʻoua ke hokosia ʻae ʻaho ko ia te u inu foʻou ia mo kimoutolu ʻi he puleʻanga ʻo ʻeku Tamai.”
But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
30 Pea kuo hili ʻenau hiva, pea nau ʻalu atu ki he moʻunga ʻoe ʻOlive.
And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
31 Pea toki pehē ai ʻe Sisu kiate kinautolu, “ʻE tūkia ʻakimoutolu kotoa pē ʻi he poōni ʻiate au: he kuo tohi, ‘Te u taaʻi ʻae tauhi, pea ʻe movetevete ai ʻae fanga sipi.’
Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
32 Kae hili ʻeku toetuʻu, te u muʻomuʻa ʻiate kimoutolu ki Kaleli.”
But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
33 Pea lea ʻa Pita, ʻo pehēange kiate ia, “Kapau ʻe tūkia kotoa pē ʻiate koe, ʻe ʻikai te u tūkia ʻo lauikuonga.
Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
34 Pea talaange ʻe Sisu kiate ia, “ʻOku ou tala moʻoni atu kiate koe, ʻE teʻeki ai ʻuʻua ʻae moa ʻi he poōni, ka ʻe liunga tolu hoʻo fakafisi ʻiate au.”
Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
35 Pea talaange ʻe Pita kiate ia, “Kapau te u mate ai mo koe, kae ʻikai te u fakafisiʻi koe.” Pea lea pehē pe foki ʻae kau ākonga kotoa pē.
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
36 Pea toki haʻu ai ʻa Sisu mo kinautolu ki he potu ʻoku ui ko Ketisemani, ʻo ne pehē ki he kau ākonga, “Mou nofo ʻi heni, kau ʻalu ki hena ʻo lotu.”
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 Pea ne ʻave ʻa Pita mo e foha ʻe toko ua ʻo Sepeti, pea kamata mamahiʻia ia mo māfasia lahi.
And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Pea toki pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku mamahi lahi ʻaupito, ʻo hangē ka mate, hoku laumālie: mou nofo pe ʻi heni, ke tau leʻo mo au.”
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 Pea ʻalu siʻi atu ia, ʻo tō fakafoʻohifo, ʻo pehē ʻene lotu, “ʻA ʻeku Tamai, kapau ʻe faʻa fai, pea ʻave ʻae ipu ni ʻiate au: kaeʻoua naʻa faʻiteliha pe au, ka ko koe pe.”
And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 Pea haʻu ia ki he kau ākonga, ʻo ne ʻilo ʻakinautolu ʻoku mohe, pea ne pehē kia Pita, “He ʻoku pehē, kuo ʻikai te mou faʻa leʻo mo au ʻi he feituʻu pō ʻe taha?
And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Leʻo mo lotu, telia naʻa lavaʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻe he ʻahiʻahi: ko e moʻoni ʻoku fie fai ʻe he laumālie, ka ʻoku vaivai ʻae kakano.”
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42 Pea toe ʻalu atu ia ko hono liunga ua, ʻo lotu, ʻo pehē, “ʻA ʻeku Tamai, kapau ʻe ʻikai lelei ke ʻave ʻae ipu ni ʻiate au, ka ʻi heʻeku inumia ia, ke fai pe hoʻo faʻiteliha.”
He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
43 Pea haʻu ia ʻo ne ʻilo ʻoku nau toe mohe: he naʻe māfasia honau mata.
And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
44 Pea tuku ai pe ʻe ia ʻakinautolu, kae toe ʻalu atu, ʻo lotu ko hono liunga tolu, ʻo ne toe fai pē ʻae lea ko ia.
And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
45 Pea toki haʻu ia ki heʻene kau ākonga, ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “Maʻu pe hoʻomou mohe ni, pea mālōlō: vakai, kuo ofi ʻae feituʻu pō ʻe lavakiʻi ai ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata ki he nima ʻoe kau angahala.
Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46 Tuʻu hake, ke tau ʻalu: vakai, ʻoku ʻi heni ia ʻoku ne lavakiʻi au.”
Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
47 Pea lolotonga ʻene lea, ʻiloange, ko Siutasi, ko e taha ʻoe toko hongofulu ma toko ua, naʻe haʻu ia mo e kakai tokolahi, mo e ngaahi heletā, mo e ʻakau, mei he kau taulaʻeiki lahi mo e kau mātuʻa ʻoe kakai.
And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 Pea ko ia naʻa ne lavakiʻi ia, naʻa ne tuku kiate kinautolu ʻae fakaʻilonga, ʻo ne pehē, “Ka ʻilonga ʻaia te u ʻuma ki ai, ko ia ia: puke ia ke maʻu.”
Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.
49 Pea haʻu leva ia kia Sisu, ʻo ne pehē, “Lāpai, siʻotoʻofa:” pea ʻuma kiate ia.
And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
50 Pea pehē ʻe Sisu kiate ia, “Kāinga, ko e hā kuo ke haʻu ai?” Pea toki haʻu ʻakinautolu, ʻo ala honau nima kia Sisu, ʻo puke ia.
And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
51 Pea vakai, ko e taha ʻonautolu naʻe ʻia Sisu, naʻe ʻai hono nima ki heʻene heletā ʻo toho, ʻo ne taaʻi ʻaki ʻae tamaioʻeiki ʻae taulaʻeiki lahi, pea motuhi hono telinga.
And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear.
52 Pea toki pehē ʻe Sisu kiate ia, “Toe ʻai hoʻo heletā ki hono ʻaiʻanga: he ko kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku toʻo heletā te nau ʻauha ʻi he heletā.
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
53 ʻOku ke mahalo ʻe ʻikai te u faʻa lotu ni ki heʻeku Tamai, pea te ne tuku leva ni kiate au ʻae kau ʻāngelo ke lahi ʻi he lisione ʻe hongofulu ma ua?
Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 Kae fakamoʻoni fēfē ʻae ngaahi tohi, ʻaia ʻoku fakahā ai ʻe pehē ni pe?”
But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
55 ʻI he feituʻu pō ko ia naʻe lea ai ʻa Sisu ki he kakai lahi, “ʻOku mou haʻu mo e ngaahi heletā mo e ʻakau ke puke au, ʻo hangē ko ha kaihaʻa? Naʻaku nofo mo kimoutolu ʻo ako ʻi he falelotu lahi, ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē, pea naʻe ʻikai te mou puke au.
In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
56 Ka kuo fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē, ke fakamoʻoni ʻae ngaahi tohi ʻae kau palōfita.” Pea naʻe toki liʻaki ia ʻe he kau ākonga kotoa pē, ka nau feholaki.
But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
57 Pea ko kinautolu naʻe puke ʻa Sisu naʻa nau tataki [ia ]kia Kaiafasi ko e taulaʻeiki lahi, pea kātoa ai ʻae kau tangata tohi mo e kau mātuʻa.
And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
58 Ka naʻe muimui mamaʻo atu kiate ia ʻa Pita, ki he fale ʻoe taulaʻeiki lahi, pea hū ki ai, ʻonau nonofo mo e kau tamaioʻeiki, ke mamata ki hono ikuʻanga.
But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
59 Pea kumi ʻe he kau taulaʻeiki lahi, mo e mātuʻa, mo e kau fakamaau kotoa pē, ʻae fakamoʻoni loi kia Sisu, kae tāmateʻi ia;
Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
60 Ka naʻe ʻikai ʻilo [ha taha]: naʻe haʻu ʻae fakamoʻoni loi tokolahi, ka naʻe ʻikai te nau maʻu ha [taha]. Pea toki ʻomi fakamui ʻae ongo fakamoʻoni loi ʻe toko ua,
But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,
61 ʻo na pehē, “naʻe pehē ʻe ia, ‘ʻOku ou faʻa fai ke veteki ʻae falelotu lahi ʻoe ʻOtua, mo toe langa ia ʻi he ʻaho ʻe tolu.’”
And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
62 Pea tuʻu hake ʻae taulaʻeiki lahi, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “ʻOku ʻikai hao lea ki ai? Ko e hā ia ʻoku nau fakaʻilo ni kiate koe?”
And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
63 Ka naʻe longo pē ʻa Sisu. Pea lea ʻae taulaʻeiki lahi, ʻo pehēange kiate ia, “ʻOku ou fekau mālohi kiate koe ʻi he ʻOtua moʻui, ke ke fakahā mai kiate kimautolu, pe ko e Kalaisi ʻa koe, ko e ʻAlo ʻoe ʻOtua.”
But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
64 Pea talaange ʻe Sisu kiate ia, “Ko ia pe: ka ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, Te mou mamata ʻa mui ki he Foha ʻoe tangata ʻoku nofo ki he nima toʻomataʻu ʻoe māfimafi, pea mo ʻene haʻu ʻi he ngaahi ʻao ʻoe langi.”
Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
65 Pea toki haehae ʻe he taulaʻeiki lahi hono kofu, ʻo ne pehē, “Kuo lea fie ʻOtua ia; koeʻumaʻā kiate kitautolu ha toe fakamoʻoni? Vakai, kuo mou fanongo ni ki heʻene lea fie ʻOtua.
Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
66 Ko e hā homou loto?” Pea nau lea, ʻo pehēange, “ʻOku totonu ke ne mate.”
What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.
67 Pea naʻa nau toki ʻaʻanu ki hono mata, ʻo tukiʻi ia; pea sipiʻi ia ʻe he niʻihi ʻaki honau ʻaofinima,
Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
68 ʻo pehēange, “ʻA koe, Kalaisi, mate mai kiate kimautolu, ko hai ia naʻa ne sipiʻi koe?”
Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
69 Pea naʻe nofo ʻituʻa ʻa Pita ʻi he lotoʻā; pea haʻu ʻae fefine kaunanga kiate ia, ʻo ne pehē, “Ko koe foki naʻa ke ʻia Sisu ʻo Kaleli.”
Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
70 Ka naʻe fakafisi [leva ]ia ʻi he ʻao ʻokinautolu kotoa pē, mo ne pehē, “ʻOku ʻikai te u ʻilo hoʻo lea.”
But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
71 Pea ʻalu atu ia ki he potu ʻe taha ʻoe fale, pea mamata kiate ia ʻa e [kaunanga ]ʻe taha, ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, naʻe ʻi ai, “Naʻe ʻia Sisu ʻo Nāsaleti ʻae tangata ni foki.”
And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
72 Pea toe fakafisi ia mo fuakava, “ʻOku ʻikai te u ʻiloa ʻae tangata.”
And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
73 Pea fuoloa siʻi pea haʻu kiate [ia ]ʻakinautolu naʻe tutuʻu ai, ʻonau pehē kia Pita, “Ko e moʻoni ko e tokotaha koe ʻokinautolu; he ʻoku fakaʻilo koe ʻe hoʻo lea.”
And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
74 Pea toki kamata kape ia mo fuakava, [ʻo pehē], “ʻOku ʻikai te u ʻiloa ʻae tangata.” Pea naʻe ʻuʻua leva ʻae moa.
Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
75 Pea manatu ai ʻe Pita ki he lea ʻa Sisu, ʻaia naʻe pehē kiate ia, “ʻE teʻeki ai ʻuʻua ʻae moa, kae tuʻo tolu haʻo fakafisiʻi au.” Pea ʻalu kituaʻā ia, ʻo tangi mamahi.
And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
