Luke 3
1 Pea ʻi hono hongofulu ma nima ʻoe taʻu ʻoe pule ʻa Taipiliusi Sisa, ko e ʻeiki pule ʻa Ponito Pailato ʻi Siutea, pea tuʻi ai ʻa Helota ʻi Kāleli, pea tuʻi ʻa hono tokoua ko Filipe ʻi ʻAitulia mo e feituʻu ʻo Tilakonite, pea tuʻi ʻa Lisaniasi ʻi ʻApiline,
And in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar — Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother, tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene —
2 Pea ko ʻAnasi mo Kaiafasi ko e ongo taulaʻeiki lahi ʻakinaua, naʻe hoko ʻae folofola ʻae ʻOtua kia Sione ko e foha ʻo Sakalaia ʻi he toafa.
Annas and Caiaphas being chief priests — there came a word of God unto John the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness,
3 Pea haʻu ia ki he potu fonua kotoa pē ʻo ofi ki Sioatani, ʻo ne malangaʻaki ʻae papitaiso ʻoe fakatomala ki he fakamolemole ʻoe angahala:
and he came to all the region round the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of reformation — to remission of sins,
4 ʻO hangē ko ia kuo tohi ʻi he tohi ʻae ngaahi lea ʻae palōfita ko ʻIsaia, ʻo pehē, “Ko e leʻo ʻoe tokotaha ʻoku kalanga ʻi he toafa, ‘Mou teuteu ʻae hala ʻo Sihova, pea fakatonutonu hono ʻaluʻanga.
as it hath been written in the scroll of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, 'A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye His paths;
5 ʻE tanu ʻae luo kotoa pē, ʻE holoki hifo ʻae moʻunga mo e tafungofunga kotoa pē; Pea ʻe fakatotonu ʻae pikopiko, Pea ʻe fakatokalelei ʻae ngaahi hala ʻoku tokatāmaki;
every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straightness, and the rough become smooth ways;
6 Pea ʻe mamata ʻae kakai kotoa pē ki he fakamoʻui ʻae ʻOtua.’”
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'
7 Pea toki pehē ʻe ia ki he kakai kuo ʻalu ange ke nau papitaiso ʻiate ia, “ʻAe fānau ʻae ngata fekai, Ko hai ne ne valoki ʻakimoutolu ke mou puna mei he houhau ʻe haʻu?
Then said he to the multitudes coming forth to be baptised by him, 'Brood of vipers! who did prompt you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 Ko ia mou fakahā ʻae ngaahi fua ʻoku ngali mo e fakatomala, pea ʻoua naʻa lau leva ʻi homou loto, ‘ʻOku mau tamai ʻaki ʻa ʻEpalahame:’ he ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, ʻOku faʻa fai ʻe he ʻOtua ke fakatupu ʻi he ngaahi maka ni ʻae fānau kia ʻEpalahame.
make, therefore, fruits worthy of the reformation, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have a father — Abraham; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise children to Abraham;
9 Pea ko eni foki, kuo tuku ʻae toki ki he tefito ʻoe ngaahi ʻakau: pea ko ia, ka ʻilonga ʻae ʻakau ʻoku ʻikai tupu ai ʻae fua lelei ʻe tā hifo [ia], ʻo laku ki he afi.”
and already also the axe unto the root of the trees is laid, every tree, therefore, not making good fruit is cut down, and to fire it is cast.'
10 Pea fehuʻi ʻae kakai kiate ia, ʻo pehē, “Ko e hā nai te mau fai?”
And the multitudes were questioning him, saying, 'What, then, shall we do?'
11 Pea lea ia, ʻo pehēange kiate kinautolu, “Ko ia ʻoku maʻu ʻae kofutuʻa ʻe ua, ke ne foaki kiate ia ʻoku ʻikai maʻu; pea ko ia ʻoku maʻu ʻae meʻa kai, ke fai pehē [foki].”
and he answering saith to them, 'He having two coats — let him impart to him having none, and he having victuals — in like manner let him do.'
12 Pea haʻu foki ʻae kau tānaki tukuhau ke papitaiso, ʻonau pehē kiate ia, “ʻEiki, ko e hā te mau fai?”
And there came also tax-gatherers to be baptised, and they said unto him, 'Teacher, what shall we do?'
13 Pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “ʻOua naʻa mou maʻu ʻo lahi ʻi he meʻa kuo tuʻutuʻuni maʻamoutolu.”
and he said unto them, 'Exact no more than that directed you.'
14 Pea fehuʻi foki ʻe he kau tau kiate ia, ʻo pehē; “Pea ko e hā te mau fai?” Pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “ʻOua naʻa fai fakamālohi ki ha taha, pea ʻoua naʻa lohiakiʻi; pea mou fiemālie ʻi hoʻomou totongi.”
And questioning him also were those warring, saying, 'And we, what shall we do?' and he said unto them, 'Do violence to no one, nor accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.'
15 Pea naʻe lolotonga ʻae ʻamanaki ʻae kakai, mo nau fifili kotoa pē ʻi honau loto kia Sione, pe ko e Kalaisi ia pe ʻikai;
And the people are looking forward, and all are reasoning in their hearts concerning John, whether or not he may be the Christ;
16 Pea lea ʻa Sione, ʻo ne pehēange kiate kinautolu kotoa pē, “Ko e moʻoni ʻoku ou papitaiso ʻaki ʻakimoutolu ʻae vai; ka ʻoku haʻu ʻae tokotaha ʻoku mālohi ʻiate au, pea ʻoku ʻikai taau mo au ke u vete ʻae nonoʻo ʻo hono topuvaʻe: pea ʻe papitaiso ʻaki ʻe ia ʻakimoutolu ʻae Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni mo e afi:
John answered, saying to all, 'I indeed with water do baptise you, but he cometh who is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to loose the latchet of his sandals — he shall baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire;
17 ʻOku ʻi hono nima ʻa hono fohe, pea te ne fakamaʻa ʻaupito hono hahaʻanga, pea ʻe ia ʻae kafukafu ʻaki ʻae afi taʻemate.”
whose winnowing shovel [is] in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and will gather the wheat to his storehouse, and the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.'
18 Pea lahi ʻae meʻa kehekehe naʻa ne malangaʻaki ʻi heʻene enginaki ki he kakai.
And, therefore, indeed with many other things, exhorting, he was proclaiming good news to the people,
19 Ka naʻe valoki ʻe ia ʻa Helota ko e tuʻi, koeʻuhi ko Helotiasi ko e uaifi ʻo hono tokoua ko Filipe, pea mo e kovi kotoa pē ne fai ʻe Helota.
and Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him concerning Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, and concerning all the evils that Herod did,
20 Pea ne fakalahi ʻaki ʻae meʻa ni kotoa pē, ʻa ʻene fakahū ʻa Sione ki he fale fakapōpula.
added also this to all, that he shut up John in the prison.
21 Pea kuo papitaiso ʻae kakai kotoa pē, pea pehē, ne papitaiso foki mo Sisu, pea ʻi heʻene lotu, ne matoʻo ʻae langi,
And it came to pass, in all the people being baptised, Jesus also being baptised, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22 Pea maliu hifo ʻae Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni kiate ia ʻo hangē ko e sino ʻoe lupe, pea hoko mai mo e leʻo mei he langi, ʻo pehē, “Ko hoku ʻAlo ʻofaʻanga koe; ʻoku ou fiemālie lahi ʻiate koe.”
and the Holy Spirit came down in a bodily appearance, as if a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, saying, 'Thou art My Son — the Beloved, in thee I did delight.'

And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, son of Joseph,

the [son] of Eli, the [son] of Matthat, the [son] of Levi, the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Janna, the [son] of Joseph,
25 Ko e foha ia ʻo Matatiasi, ko e foha ia ʻo Emosi, ko e foha ia ʻo Neumi, ko e foha ia ʻo Esilai, ko e foha ia ʻo Naki,
the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Amos, the [son] of Naum, the [son] of Esli,
26 Ko e foha ia ʻo Mati, ko e foha ia ʻo Matatiasi, ko e foha ia ʻo Semiai, ko e foha ia ʻo Siosefa, ko e foha ia ʻo Siuta,
the [son] of Naggai, the [son] of Maath, the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Semei, the [son] of Joseph, the [son] of Juda,

the [son] of Joanna, the [son] of Rhesa, the [son] of Zerubbabel, the [son] of Shealtiel,

the [son] of Neri, the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Addi, the [son] of Cosam, the [son] of Elmodam, the [son] of Er,
29 Ko e foha ia ʻo Sose, ko e foha ia ʻo ʻEliesa, ko e foha ia ʻo Solimi, ko e foha ia ʻo Matati, ko e foha ia ʻo Livai,
the [son] of Jose, the [son] of Eliezer, the [son] of Jorim, the [son] of Matthat,
30 Ko e foha ia ʻo Simione, ko e foha ia ʻo Siuta, ko e foha ia ʻo Siosefa, ko e foha ia Sonani, ko e foha ia ʻo Iliakimi,
the [son] of Levi, the [son] of Simeon, the [son] of Juda, the [son] of Joseph, the [son] of Jonan, the [son] of Eliakim,

the [son] of Melea, the [son] of Mainan, the [son] of Mattatha, the [son] of Nathan,
32 Ko e foha ia ʻo Sese, ko e foha ia ʻo ʻOpeti, ko e foha ia ʻo Poasi, ko e foha ia ʻo Salimoni, ko e foha ia ʻo Neasoni,
the [son] of David, the [son] of Jesse, the [son] of Obed, the [son] of Booz, the [son] of Salmon, the [son] of Nahshon,

the [son] of Salah, the [son] of Cainan, the [son] of Arphaxad, the [son] of Shem, the [son] of Noah, the [son] of Lamech,

the [son] of Methuselah, the [son] of Enoch, the [son] of Jared, the [son] of Mahalaleel,
38 Ko e foha ia ʻo ʻInosi, ko e foha ia ʻo Seti, ko e foha ia ʻo ʻAtama, ko e foha ia ʻoe ʻOtua.
the [son] of Cainan, the [son] of Enos, the [son] of Seth, the [son] of Adam, the [son] of God.
