Luke 24
1 Pea ʻi he ʻuluaki[ʻaho ]ʻoe uike, ʻi he kei hengihengi, naʻa nau omi mo e niʻihi kehe ki he fonualoto, ʻo ʻomi ʻae ngaahi ʻakau namu kakala kuo nau teuteu.
but, on the first day of the week, at early dawn, unto the tomb, came they, bringing the spices which they had prepared.
2 Pea naʻa nau vakai kuo tekaʻi ʻae maka mei he fonualoto.
And they found the stone, rolled away from the tomb;
3 Pea naʻa nau hū atu, ka naʻe ʻikai te nau ʻilo ʻae sino ʻoe ʻEiki ko Sisu.
but, when they entered, they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 Pea lolotonga ʻenau puputuʻu lahi ai, vakai, naʻe tuʻu mai kiate kinautolu ʻae ongo tangata naʻe huhulu [hona ]kofu:
And it came to pass, while they were perplexing themselves concerning this, that lo! two men, stood near them, in dazzling raiment.
5 Pea ʻi heʻenau manavahē, ʻo tulolo honau mata ki he kelekele, naʻe pehē ʻekinaua kiate kinautolu, “Ko e hā ʻoku mou kumi ai ʻae moʻui ʻi he potu ʻoe mate?
And, they becoming afraid, and bending their faces unto the ground, they said unto them—Why seek ye the Living One with the dead?
6 ʻOku ʻikai ʻi heni ia, ka kuo tuʻu hake: mou fakamanatu ki heʻene lea kiate kimoutolu, ʻi heʻene kei ʻi Kāleli,
He is not here, but hath arisen: Remember how he spake unto you while yet he was in Galilee:
7 ʻo pehē, ‘ʻE tukuange ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata ki he nima ʻoe kau tangata angahala, pea ʻe tutuki ia ki he ʻakau, pea ʻe toetuʻu ia ʻi hono ʻaho tolu.’”
Saying, as to the Son of Man, that he must needs be delivered up into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, —and, on the third day, arise.
8 Pea naʻa nau manatu ki heʻene ngaahi lea,
And they remembered his sayings;
9 ʻO nau liu mai mei he fonualoto, ʻo fakahā ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē ki he toko hongofulu ma tokotaha, mo e kakai kehe kotoa pē.
and, returning [from the tomb], reported all these things unto the eleven, and unto all the rest.
10 Pea ko Mele Makitaline, mo Soana, mo Mele [ko e faʻē ]ʻa Semisi, pea mo e niʻihi naʻe ʻiate kinautolu, naʻa nau fakahā ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni ki he kau ʻaposetolo.
Now they were the Magdalene Mary, and Joana, and Mary the mother of James; and, the other women with them, were telling, unto the apostles, these things.
11 Pea naʻe tatau ʻenau ngaahi lea kiate kinautolu mo e talanoa launoa, pea naʻe ʻikai te nau tui kiate kinautolu.
And these sayings appeared before them, as if idle talk, and they were minded to disbelieve them.
12 Pea toki tuʻu ʻa Pita, ʻo lele ki he fonualoto; pea tulolo ia, ʻo mamata ki he u kofu kuo tuku kehe, pea ʻalu ia, ʻo fakatumutumu ʻi hono loto ʻi he meʻa kuo hoko.
But, Peter, arising, ran unto the tomb, —and, bending near, beholdeth the linen bandages, alone; and departed, unto himself, marvelling at the thing that had happened.
13 Pea vakai, naʻe ʻo ʻa honau toko ua, ʻi he ʻaho ko ia, ki he potu kakai naʻe ui ko ʻEmeasi, naʻe mamaʻo mo Selūsalema, ko e maile ʻe fitu.
And lo! two from among them, on the selfsame day, were journeying unto a village, distant sixty furlongs from Jerusalem, the name of which, was Emmaus;
14 Pea naʻa na talanoa ki he ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē kuo toki hoko,
and, they, were conversing one with another, about all these things which had occurred.
15 Pea lolotonga ʻae fai ʻena talanoa mo ʻena fakakaukau, mo ʻene ʻunuʻunu atu ʻa Sisu, ʻo fononga mo kinaua.
And it came to pass, as they were conversing and reasoning together, that, Jesus himself, drawing near, was journeying with them;
16 Ka naʻe taʻofi ʻa hona mata, ke ʻoua naʻa na ʻilo ia.
but, their eyes, were held, so as not to know him.
17 Pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinaua, “Ko e talanoa hā ia ʻoku mo fetalanoaʻaki ʻi hoʻomo fononga, pea mo mamahi ai?”
And he said unto them—What are these things which ye are debating one with another, as ye walk along? And they came to a stand, sad in countenance.
18 Pea ko e tokotaha, ko Kaliopasi hono hingoa, naʻe lea ʻo pehē kiate ia, naʻa ko Koe pe ʻoku nofo ʻi Selūsalema pea ʻoku ʻikai te ke ʻilo ʻae ngaahi meʻa kuo hoko ʻi ai ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ni?
But one, by name Cleopas, answering, said unto him—Art, thou, lodging, alone, in Jerusalem, and knowest not the things which have come to pass therein in these days?
19 Pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinaua, “Ko e hā ʻae meʻa?” Pea na pehē kiate ia, “Kia Sisu ʻo Nāsaleti, ko e palōfita naʻe mālohi ʻi he ngāue mo e lea ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua mo e kakai kotoa pē:
And he said unto them—What things? And, they, said unto him—The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who became a prophet, mighty in work and word, before God and all the people:
20 Pea mo e tukuange ia ʻe homau kau taulaʻeiki lahi mo e kau fakamaau ke tāmateʻi, pea kuo tutuki ia ki he ʻakau.
In what way also our High-priests and Rulers delivered him up unto a sentence of death, and crucified him.
21 Ka naʻa mau falala ko ia ia te ne huhuʻi ʻa ʻIsileli: kaeʻumaʻā eni kotoa pē, ko hono ʻaho tolu eni talu hono fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni.
We, however, were hoping that, he, was the one destined to redeem Israel! But indeed, even with all these things, this brings on, the third, day, since these things happened: —
22 ʻIo, pea fakaofo kiate kimautolu ʻe homau kau fefine niʻihi, naʻa nau ʻalu hengihengi ki he fonualoto;
Nay! certain women also, from amongst us, have made us beside ourselves, in that they went early unto the tomb;
23 Pea ʻi he ʻikai te nau ʻilo hono sino, naʻa nau haʻu, ʻo pehē, kuo nau mamata foki ki he kau ʻāngelo, pea nau pehē, kuo moʻui ia.
and, not finding his body, came, saying—that, a vision of messengers, they had seen, who were affirming him to be alive.
24 Pea ko homau niʻihi naʻe ʻalu ki he fonualoto, ʻonau ʻilo ʻo hangē pe ko ia naʻe fakahā ʻe he kau fefine: ka naʻe ʻikai te nau mamata kiate ia.”
And certain of them who were with us departed unto the tomb, —and found so, according as, the women, had said; but, him, they saw not.
25 Pea toki pehē ʻe ia kiate kinaua, “ʻAe kau vale, mo loto tuai ke tui ki he meʻa kotoa pē naʻe lea ʻaki ʻe he kau palōfita:
And, he, said unto them—O thoughtless ones! and slow in heart to rest your faith upon all things which the prophets have spoken: —
26 He ʻikai naʻe totonu kia Kalaisi ke kātaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni, pea hū ai ki hono nāunau?”
Was it not needful for the Christ, these very things, to suffer, and to enter into his glory?
27 Pea kamata ia meia Mōsese, ʻo hoko ki he kau palōfita kotoa pē, ʻa ʻene fakamatala kiate kinaua mei he tohi ʻae ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku kau kiate ia.
And, beginning from Moses, and from all the prophets, he thoroughly explained to them, in all the Scriptures, the things concerning himself.
28 Pea kuo nau ofi ki he potu kakai naʻa nau ō ki ai; pea naʻe fai ʻe ia ʻo hangē naʻe fie ʻalu atu pe.
And they drew near unto the village, whither they were journeying; and, he, made for journeying, further.
29 Ka naʻa na taʻofi ia, ʻo pehē, “Ke tau nonofo; he kuo ofi ʻae poʻuli, pea kuo tei ʻosi ʻae ʻaho.” Pea naʻe hū ia ki loto, ke nau nonofo.
And they constrained him, saying—Abide with us; because it is, towards evening, and the day hath already declined. And he went in to abide with them.
30 Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻi heʻenau nofo mo ia ʻi he kai, naʻe toʻo ʻe ia ʻae mā, ʻo ne tāpuaki, pea ne tofi ʻo ʻatu kiate kinaua.
And it came to pass, when he reclined with them, taking the loaf, he blessed, and, breaking it, went on to give unto them.
31 Pea ʻā ai hona mata, ʻo na ʻilo ia pea ʻiloange, kuo mole ia ʻi hona ʻao.
And, their, eyes were opened, and they knew him; and, he, vanished from them.
32 Pea naʻa na fepehēʻaki, “ʻIkai naʻe vela hota loto ʻiate kitaua, ʻi heʻene talanoa mai ʻi he hala kiate kitaua, mo ʻene fakahā ʻae tohi kiate kitaua?”
And they said one to another—Was not, our heart, burning, as he was speaking to us in the way, as he was opening to us the Scriptures?
33 Pea na tuʻu hake ʻi he feituʻu ʻaho ko ia, ʻo liu mai ki Selūsalema, ʻo na ʻilo ʻae toko hongofulu ma tokotaha kuo kātoa, mo kinautolu naʻe ʻiate kinautolu,
And, arising in that very hour, they returned unto Jerusalem, —and found, gathered together, the eleven, and them who were with them,
34 ʻonau pehē, “Kuo toetuʻu moʻoni ʻae ʻEiki, pea kuo fakahā ia kia Saimone.”
saying—In truth, the Lord hath arisen, and hath appeared unto Simon!
35 Pea tala ʻekinaua ʻae ngaahi meʻa [naʻe fai ]ʻi he hala, pea mo ʻena ʻilo ia ʻi he tofi ʻoe mā.
And, they, went on to relate the things, [that had passed] on the journey, and how he was made known unto them in the breaking of the loaf.
36 Pea lolotonga ʻenau lea pehē, mo e tuʻu ʻa Sisu ʻi honau haʻohaʻonga, ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “Fiemālie pe ʻakimoutolu.”
Now, as, these very things, they were telling, he himself, stood in their midst and saith unto them—Peace to you!
37 Pea naʻa nau tāfuʻua mo ilifia, ʻo mahalo kuo nau mamata ki ha laumālie.
But, being agitated and becoming, afraid, they began to imagine, that, upon a spirit, they were looking.
38 Pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “Ko e hā ʻoku mou ilifia ai? Pea ko e hā ʻoku tupu ai ʻae ngaahi mahalo ʻi homou loto?
And he said unto them—Why are ye troubled? and for what cause do reasonings arise in your hearts?
39 Vakai ki hoku nima mo hoku vaʻe, ko au pe ia: ala mai kiate au, pea mou vakai; he ʻoku ʻikai kakano mo hui ha laumālie, ʻo hangē ko ia ʻoku mou ʻilo ni ʻiate au.”
See my hands, and my feet, —that it is, I, myself: Handle me, and see! because, a spirit, hath not, flesh and bones, as ye perceive, I, have.
40 Pea hili ʻene lea ko ia, naʻa ne toki fakahā kiate kinautolu ʻa hono nima mo hono vaʻe.
And, this saying, he pointed out to them his hands and his feet.
41 Pea ʻi he teʻeki ai te nau tui, ko e meʻa ʻi he fiefia, ka nau ofo pe, pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku ʻi heni ha meʻakai?”
Now, while yet they believed not for the joy, and were marvelling, he said unto them—Have ye anything to eat, here?
42 Pea nau ange kiate ia ʻae konga ika kuo tunu, mo e ngeʻesi hone.
And they gave unto him a piece of boiled fish;
43 Pea ne toʻo [ia], ʻo kai ʻi honau ʻao.
and, taking it before them, he did eat.
44 Pea pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “Ko eni ʻae ngaahi lea naʻaku lea ʻaki kiate kimoutolu ʻi heʻeku kei ʻiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ke fakamoʻoni ʻae ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē, ʻaia kuo tohi kiate au, ʻi he fono ʻa Mōsese, mo e kau palōfita, mo e ngaahi Saame.”
And he said unto them—These, are my words, which I spake unto you yet being with you: That all the things that are written in the law of Moses and the Prophets and Psalms, concerning me, must needs be fulfilled.
45 Pea toki toʻo ʻe ia ʻa honau loto, koeʻuhi ke nau ʻilo ʻae ngaahi tohi,
Then, opened he their mind, to understand the Scriptures;
46 ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “Kuo pehē ʻae tohi, pea ʻoku taau mo Kalaisi ke mamahi pehē, pea toetuʻu mei he mate ʻi hono ʻaho tolu:
and said unto them—Thus, it is written, That the Christ, should suffer, and arise from among the dead on the third day;
47 Pea ke malangaʻaki ʻae fakatomala, mo e fakamolemole ʻoe angahala ʻi hono hingoa, ʻi he puleʻanga kotoa pē, ʻo fuofua fai ʻi Selūsalema.
And that repentance for remission of sins should be proclaimed upon his name unto all the nations, —beginning from Jerusalem.
48 Pea ko e kau fakamoʻoni ʻakimoutolu ʻoe ngaahi meʻa ni.
Ye, are witnesses of these things.
49 Pea vakai, te u fekau kiate kimoutolu ʻae talaʻofa ʻa ʻeku Tamai: ka mou tatali ʻi he kolo ko Selūsalema, kaeʻoua ke mou maʻu ʻae mālohi mei ʻolunga.”
And lo! I, am sending forth the promise of my Father upon you; but tarry, ye, in the city, until ye be clothed, from on high, with power.
50 Pea ne tataki atu ʻakinautolu ʻo aʻu ki Pētani, pea naʻa ne hiki hake hono nima, ʻo tāpuaki ʻakinautolu.
And he led them forth as far as unto Bethany; and, uplifting his hands, he blessed them.
51 Pea ʻiloange ʻi he lolotonga ʻene tāpuaki ʻakinautolu, naʻe mavahe ia meiate kinautolu, pea fua hake ia ki he langi.
And it came to pass, while he was blessing them, he parted from them and was born up into heaven.
52 Pea naʻa nau hū kiate ia, pea liu mai ki Selūsalema ʻi he fiefia lahi:
And, they, having bowed down unto him returned unto Jerusalem, with great joy;
53 Mo nau nofomaʻu ʻi he falelotu lahi, ʻo fakamālō mo fakafetaʻi ki he ʻOtua. ʻEmeni.
and were continually in the temple, blessing God.
