And [the] inhabitants of Gibeon they heard [that] which he had done Joshua to Jericho and to Ai.

And they acted also they with cunning and they went and they acted as ambassadors and they took sacks worn out for donkeys their and skin-bottles of wine worn out and split and tied up.
And sandals worn out and patched [were] on feet their and garments worn out [were] on them and all [the] bread of provision[s] their it was dried up it was crumbs.
6 Pea naʻa nau ʻalu kia Siosiua ʻi he ʻapitanga ʻi Kilikali, ʻonau pehē kiate ia, pea ki he kau tangata ʻo ʻIsileli, “Kuo mau haʻu mei he fonua mamaʻo: pea ko eni te tau alea mo kimoutolu.”
And they went to Joshua to the camp Gilgal and they said to him and to [the] man of Israel from a land distant we have come and therefore make to us a covenant.
7 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe he kau tangata ʻIsileli ki he kau Hevi, “Naʻa ko e kakai ʻoku tau nonofo ni ʻakimoutolu; pea ʻe fēfē ʻemau lea ke lelei mo kimoutolu?”
(And he said *Q(K)*) [the] man of Israel to the Hivite[s] perhaps in midst my you [are] dwelling and how? (will I make *Q(k)*) to you a covenant.
8 Pea naʻa nau tala kia Siosiua, “Ko hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki ʻakimautolu. Pea pehē ʻe Siosiua kiate kinautolu, “Ko hai ʻakimoutolu? Pea kuo mou haʻu mei fē?”
And they said to Joshua [are] servants your we and he said to them Joshua who? [are] you and from where? do you come.
9 Pea naʻa nau pehē kiate ia, “Kuo haʻu hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki mei he fonua mamaʻo, ko e meʻa ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua: he kuo mau fanongo ki hono ongoongo, mo ia kotoa pē naʻa ne fai ʻi ʻIsipite.
And they said to him from a land distant very they have come servants your to [the] name of Yahweh God your for we have heard [the] report of him and all that he did in Egypt.
10 Mo ia kotoa pē naʻa ne fai ki he ongo tuʻi ʻoe kau ʻAmoli, ʻakinaua naʻe ʻi he kauvai ʻe taha ʻo Sioatani, kia Sihoni ko e tuʻi ʻa Hesiponi, pea kia Oki ko e tuʻi ʻo Pesani, ʻaia naʻe ʻi ʻAsitelote.
And - all that he did to [the] two [the] kings of the Amorite[s] who [were] on [the] other side of the Jordan to Sihon [the] king of Heshbon and to Og [the] king of Bashan who [was] in Ashtaroth.
11 Ko ia naʻe lea ai ʻemau kau mātuʻa mo e kakai kotoa pē ʻo homau fonua, ʻo pehē, Toʻo ʻae meʻakai ki homou fononga, pea ʻalu ʻo fakafetaulaki kiate kinautolu, pea mou pehē kiate kinautolu, Ko hoʻomou kau tamaioʻeiki ʻakimautolu: ko ia fokotuʻu hoʻomou fekau kiate kimautolu.
And they said to us elders our and all [the] inhabitants of land our saying take in hand your provision[s] for the journey and go to meet them and you will say to them [are] servants your we and therefore make to us a covenant.
12 Ko ʻemau ma ni naʻa mau toʻo mafana pe mei homau ngaahi fale ko homau ʻoho ʻi he ʻaho naʻa mau haʻu ai he mau hoko kiate kimoutolu; ka ko eni, vakai, kuo mōmoa ia, pea kuo tuʻungafulufulua.
This - bread our warm we took as our provisions it from homes our on [the] day came out we to come to you and now here! it has dried up and it has been crumbs.
13 Pea ko e ngaahi hina ni ʻoe uaine, ʻaia naʻa mau fakafonu, ʻoku foʻou; pea vakai, kuo nau mahae: pea ko ʻemau ngaahi kofu ni, mo e ngaahi topuvaʻe kuo hoko ʻo motuʻa ko e mae ʻi he fononga lōloa ʻaupito.”
And these [the] skin-bottles of wine which we filled new and here! they have split and these garments our and sandals our they have worn out from [the] greatness of the journey very.
14 Pea naʻa nau toʻo ʻenau meʻakai, pea naʻe ʻikai tenau fehuʻi ʻi he fofonga ʻo Sihova.
And they took the men some of provision[s] their and [the] mouth of Yahweh not they asked.
15 Pea naʻe fai ʻae fakalelei ʻe Siosiua mo kinautolu, ʻo alea mo kinautolu, koeʻuhi ke tuku kenau moʻui: pea naʻe fuakava kiate kinautolu ʻae houʻeiki ʻoe fakataha.
And he made to them Joshua peace and he made to them a covenant to let live them and they swore an oath to them [the] leaders of the congregation.
16 Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻi heʻene ʻosi mai ʻae ʻaho ʻe tolu, hili ʻenau fai ʻae lea mo kinautolu, naʻa nau fanongo, tā ko e vāofi pe ʻakinautolu, pea ʻoku nau nofo ofi kiate kinautolu.
And it was from [the] end of three days after that they had made to them a covenant and they heard that [were] near they to him and in midst his they [were] dwelling.
17 Pea naʻe fononga ʻae fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻo hoko atu ki honau kolo ʻi hono tolu ʻoe ʻaho. Pea ko ʻenau ngaahi kolo, ko Kipione, mo Kifila, mo Piheloti, mo Kesa-Sialimi.
And they set out [the] people of Israel and they came to cities their on the day third and cities their [were] Gibeon and Kephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath Jearim.
18 Pea naʻe ʻikai teʻia ʻakinautolu ʻe he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ko e meʻa ʻi he houʻeiki ʻoe kakai naʻa nau fuakava kiate kinautolu ʻia Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli. Pea naʻe lāunga ʻae kakai kotoa pē koeʻuhi ko e houʻeiki.
And not they attacked them [the] people of Israel for they had sworn an oath to them [the] leaders of the congregation by Yahweh [the] God of Israel and they grumbled all the congregation on the leaders.
19 Ka naʻe lea ʻae houʻeiki kotoa pē ki he kakai, “Kuo ʻosi ʻemau fuakava kiate kinautolu ʻia Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli: ko ia ʻoku ʻikai totonu ke mau ala kiate kinautolu.
And they said all the leaders to all the congregation we we have sworn an oath to them by Yahweh [the] God of Israel and therefore not we are able to touch them.
20 Te tau fai ʻae meʻa ni kiate kinautolu; tuku pe kenau moʻui, telia naʻa ʻiate kitautolu ʻae houhau, ko e meʻa ʻi he fuakava ʻaia kuo tau fai kiate kinautolu.
This we will do to them and we will let live them and not it will be towards us wrath on the oath which we swore to them.
21 Pea naʻe tala ʻe he houʻeiki kiate kinautolu, Tuku kenau moʻui; kae hoko ʻakinautolu ko e kau tā fefie mo e kau ʻutu vai ki he kakai kotoa pē,” ʻo hangē ko e lea ʻae houʻeiki kiate kinautolu.
And they said to them the leaders let them live and they were cutters of wood and drawers of water for all the congregation just as they had spoken to them the leaders.
And he summoned them Joshua and he spoke to them saying why? did you deceive us saying [are] distant we from you very and you in midst our [are] dwelling.
23 Pea ko eni, ʻoku malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, pea ʻe ʻikai fakatauʻatāina hamou tokotaha mei he pōpula, ka ko e kau tā fefie mo e kau ʻutu vai ʻakimoutolu ki he fale ʻo hoku ʻOtua.”
And therefore [are] cursed you and not he will be cut off from you a slave and cutters of wood and drawers of water for [the] house of God my.
24 Pea naʻa nau lea kia Siosiua ʻo pehē, “Ko e meʻa ʻi he fakahā ki hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, ʻae fekau ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua kia Mōsese ke foaki kiate kimoutolu ʻae fonua kotoa pē, pea ke mou fakaʻauha ʻae kakai kotoa pē ʻoe fonua mei homou ʻao, ko ia naʻa mau manavahē lahi ai koeʻuhi ko ʻemau moʻui koeʻuhi ko kimoutolu, pea ko ia kuo mau fai ai ʻae meʻa ni.
And they answered Joshua and they said that certainly it was told to servants your this: he had commanded Yahweh God your Moses servant his to give to you all the land and to destroy all [the] inhabitants of the land from before you and we were afraid very for lives our because of you and we did the thing this.
25 Pea ko eni, vakai, ʻoku mau ʻi ho nima: ke ke fai kiate kimautolu ʻaia ʻoku matamatalelei mo totonu kiate koe.”
And therefore here we [are] in hand your according to the good and according to the right in view your to do to us do.
26 Pea naʻa ne fai ia kiate kinautolu, ʻo fakahaofi ʻakinautolu mei he nima ʻae fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, pea naʻe ʻikai te ne tāmateʻi ʻakinautolu.
And he did to them thus and he delivered them from [the] hand of [the] people of Israel and not they killed them.
27 Pea naʻe ngaohi ʻakinautolu ʻe Siosiua ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ko e kau tā fefie, mo e kau ʻutu vai ki he kakai ʻoe fakataha, pea ki he feilaulauʻanga ʻo Sihova, ʻio, ʻo aʻu mai ki he ʻaho ni, ʻi he potu ko ia te ne fili.
And he made them Joshua on the day that cutters of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for [the] altar of Yahweh until the day this to the place which he will choose.
