1 Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova foki kia Siosiua, ʻo pehē,
The LORD spoke to Joshua, saying,
2 Ke ke lea ki he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻo pehē, “Fili moʻomoutolu ʻae ngaahi kolo ke hūfanga ki ai, ʻaia naʻaku lea ai kiate kimoutolu ʻi he nima ʻo Mōsese:
"Speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'Assign the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you by Moses,
3 Koeʻuhi ke hola ki ai ʻae fakapō ʻaia ʻoku ne tāmateʻi lavenoaʻia ha tokotaha ʻo taʻeloto ki ai: pea ʻe ʻiate kimoutolu ia ko homou hūfanga mei he totongi toto.
that the manslayer who kills any person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there. They shall be for you a refuge from the avenger of blood.
4 Pea ka tuʻu ʻi he matapā ʻo ha kolo ʻe taha ʻi he ngaahi kolo ni, ʻaia ʻoku ne hola ki ai, ʻo ne fakamatala ʻene meʻa ʻi he telinga ʻoe kau mātuʻa ʻoe kolo ko ia, tenau ʻave ia ki he kolo kiate kinautolu, ʻonau tuku kiate ia ha potu, ke ne nofo ai mo kinautolu.
He shall flee to one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city. They shall take him into the city with them, and give him a place, that he may live among them.
5 Pea kapau ʻoku tuli ia ʻe he totongi toto, ʻe ʻikai ai tenau tukuange ʻae fakapō ki hono nima; koeʻuhi naʻa ne tā lavenoaʻia hono kaungāʻapi, ka naʻe ʻikai tomuʻa fehiʻa kiate ia.
If the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, and did not hate him before.
6 Pea ʻe nofo ia ʻi he kolo ko ia, ke ʻoua ke tuʻu ia ʻi he ʻao ʻoe fakataha ʻi he fakamaau, pea ke ʻoua ke pekia ʻae taulaʻeiki lahi ʻaia ʻe ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia: pea ʻe toki liu mai ʻae tāmate faainoa, ʻo haʻu ki heʻene kolo, pea haʻu ki hono fale, ki he kolo naʻe hola ia mei ai.”
He shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days. Then the manslayer shall return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city he fled from.'"
7 Pea naʻa nau fili ʻa Ketesi ʻi Kaleli ʻi he moʻunga ʻo Nafitalai, mo Sikemi ʻi he moʻunga ʻo ʻIfalemi, mo Kesa-ʻAlipa, ʻaia ko Hepeloni, ʻi he moʻunga ʻo Siuta.
They set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.
8 Pea ʻi he kauvai ʻe taha ʻo Sioatani ofi ki Seliko ʻi he potu hahake, naʻa nau fili ʻa Peseli ʻi he toafa ki he potu ʻoe faʻahinga ʻo Lupeni, mo Lemoti ʻi Kiliati mei he faʻahinga ʻo Kata, mo Kolani Pesani mei he faʻahinga ʻo Manase.
Beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer on the wilderness plateau out of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.
9 Ko eni ʻae ngaahi kolo naʻe fili ki he fānau kotoa pē ʻa ʻIsileli, pea ki he muli ʻoku ʻāunofo ʻiate kinautolu, koeʻuhi ko ia ʻoku ne tāmate lavenoaʻia ha tokotaha, ke hola ia ki ai, ke ʻoua naʻa mate ia ʻi he nima ʻoe totongi toto, kaeʻoua ke tuʻu ia ʻi he ʻao ʻoe fakataha.
These were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger who sojourns among them, that whoever kills any person unintentionally might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stands before the congregation.
