1 Hili ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni, naʻe fononga fano ʻa Sisu ʻi Kāleli: he naʻe ʻikai fie fononga ia ʻi Siutea, he naʻe holi ʻae kakai Siu ke tāmateʻi ia.
After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jewish leaders sought to kill him.
2 Pea ko e kātoanga ʻoe ngaahi fale fehikitaki ʻae kakai Siu, naʻe ofi.
Now the Jewish festival, the Feast of Tabernacles, was near.
3 Ko ia naʻe pehē ai ʻe hono kāinga kiate ia, “ʻAlu ʻi heni, ʻo ʻalu ki Siutea, koeʻuhi ke mamata foki ʻa hoʻo kau ākonga ki he ngaahi ngāue ʻoku ke fai.
So his brothers said to him, "Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works that you are doing.
4 He ʻoku ʻikai ha tangata ʻoku holi ke ongoongo, pea ne fai fakalilolilo ha meʻa. Kapau ʻoku ke fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni, fakahā koe ki māmani.”
For no one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world."
5 He naʻe ʻikai tui foki ʻa hono kāinga kiate ia.
For even his brothers did not believe in him.
6 Pea talaange ʻe Sisu kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku teʻeki ai hoko hoku ʻaho: ka ʻoku tatau kotoa pē ʻae ʻaho kiate kimoutolu.
Jesus therefore said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.
7 ʻOku ʻikai faʻa fehiʻa ʻa māmani kiate kimoutolu; ka ʻoku fehiʻa ia kiate au, koeʻuhi ʻoku ou fakahā ki ai, ʻoku kovi ʻene ngaahi ngāue.
The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.
8 Mou ʻalu hake ki he kātoanga ni: ʻe ʻikai te u ʻalu leva ki he kātoanga ni; he ʻoku teʻeki ai hokosia hoku ʻaho.”
You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled."
9 Hili ʻene lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi lea ni kiate kinautolu, pea nofo pe ia ʻi Kāleli.
After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.
10 Ka kuo ʻalu hono kāinga, pea toki ʻalu foki ia ki he kātoanga, naʻe ʻikai ʻi he fakahā, kae fakafufū pe.
But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.
11 Pea kumi ia ʻe he kakai Siu ʻi he kātoanga, ʻonau pehē, “Ko e fē ia?”
The Jewish leaders therefore sought him at the feast, and said, "Where is he?"
12 Pea naʻe lahi ʻae fefanafanahi ʻi he kakai koeʻuhi ko ia: he naʻe pehē ʻe he niʻihi, “Ko e tangata lelei ia:” kae pehē ʻe he niʻihi, “ʻOku ʻikai; he ʻoku ne fakahalaʻi ʻae kakai.”
There was much murmuring among the crowds concerning him. Some said, "He is a good man." But others said, "Not so, but he leads the crowd astray."
13 Ka naʻe ʻikai lea fakahā ʻe ha taha kiate ia, ko ʻenau manavahē ki he kakai Siu.
Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jewish leaders.
14 Pea ʻi he lolotonga ʻae kātoanga, naʻe ʻalu hake ʻa Sisu ki he falelotu lahi, ʻo akonaki.
But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
15 Pea ofo ʻae kakai Siu, ʻo [nau ]pehē, “ʻOku ʻilo fakafēfē ʻe he tangata ni ʻae poto, he naʻe ʻikai akonekina?”
Then the Jewish leaders were astonished, saying, "How does this man know such writings, having never been educated?"
16 Pea leaange ʻa Sisu kiate kinautolu, ʻO ne pehē, “Ko ʻeku akonaki ʻoku ʻikai ʻaʻaku, ka ʻoku ʻaʻana naʻa ne fekau au.
Jesus therefore answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
17 Pea ko ia ia ʻe fai ki hono finangalo, te ne ʻilo ʻae akonaki, pe ʻoku ʻi he ʻOtua ia, pe ko ʻeku lea ʻiate au pe.
If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.
18 Ko ia ʻoku lea ʻiate ia pē, ʻoku kumi ʻae fakamālō ʻaʻana: ka ko ia ʻoku ne kumi ʻae fakamālō ʻo ia naʻa ne fekau ia, ko ia ia ʻoku moʻoni, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha taʻemāʻoniʻoni ʻiate ia.
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19 ʻIkai naʻe ʻatu ʻe Mōsese ʻae fono kiate kimoutolu, ka ʻoku ʻikai hamou tokotaha ʻoku ne fai ki he fono? Ko e hā ʻoku mou kumi ai ke tāmateʻi au?”
Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you keeps the Law? Why do you seek to kill me?"
20 Pea leaange ʻae kakai, ʻo pehē, ʻOku ʻiate koe ha tēvolo: ko hai ʻoku kumi ke tāmateʻi koe?
The crowd answered, "You have a demon. Who seeks to kill you?"
21 Pea leaange ʻa Sisu, ʻo pehē kiate kinautolu, “Kuo u fai ʻae ngāue ʻe taha, pea ʻoku mou ofo ai kotoa pē.
Jesus answered them, "I did one work, and you are all amazed.
22 Naʻe fokotuʻu ʻe Mōsese ʻae kamu kiate kimoutolu; (ka ʻoku ʻikai mei ʻa Mōsese ia, kae mei he ngaahi tamai; pea ʻoku kamuʻi ʻekimoutolu ʻae tama tangata ʻi he ʻaho Sāpate.
Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.
23 Pea kapau ʻe kamu ʻae tama tangata ʻi he ʻaho Sāpate, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa maumauʻi ʻae fono ʻa Mōsese; ʻoku mou ʻita kiate au, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻeku fakamoʻui haohaoa ʻae tangata ʻi he ʻaho Sāpate?
If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the Law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?
24 ʻOua te mou fakamaau ʻo fakatatau mo ia ʻoku ha mai, kae fakamaau ke totonu.”
Do not judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment."
25 Pea lea ai ha niʻihi mei Selūsalema, “ʻIkai ko eni ia ʻoku nau kumi ke tāmateʻi?
Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, "Is not this he whom they seek to kill?
26 Pea vakai, ʻoku lea mālohi ia, kae ʻikai siʻi te nau lea kiate ia. ʻOku ʻilo moʻoni ʻe he kau pule ko e Kalaisi totonu eni?
Look, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is the Christ?
27 He ʻoku tau ʻilo ʻae potu ʻoku haʻu mei ai ʻae tangata ni: ka ʻoka haʻu ʻa Kalaisi, ʻe ʻikai ha taha te ne ʻilo pe ʻoku mei fē ia.”
However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from."
28 Pea kalanga ʻa Sisu ʻi he falelotu lahi ʻi heʻene akonaki, ʻo pehē, “ʻOku mou ʻilo au, pea ʻoku mou ʻilo ʻae potu ʻoku ou haʻu mei ai: pea ʻoku ʻikai te u haʻu ʻiate au pē, ka ko ia naʻa ne fekau au ʻoku moʻoni ia, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai te mou ʻiloa.
Jesus therefore called out in the temple, teaching and saying, "You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you do not know.
29 Ka ʻoku ou ʻilo ia: he ʻoku ou meiate ia, pea naʻa ne fekau au.”
I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me."
30 Pea naʻa nau holi ai ke puke ia ka naʻe ʻikai ala ha taha kiate ia, he naʻe teʻeki hoko hono ʻaho.
They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
31 Pea naʻe tui ʻae tokolahi ʻoe kakai kiate ia, ʻonau pehē, “ʻOka haʻu ʻae Kalaisi, ʻe lahi hake ʻae mana ʻe fai ʻe ia ʻi he ngaahi meʻa ni kuo fai ʻe he tangata ni?”
But many in the crowd believed in him. They said, "When the Christ comes, he won't do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?"
32 Pea naʻe fanongo ʻae kau Fālesi ʻoku fefanafanahi ʻae kakai kiate ia; pea fekau ʻe he kau Fālesi mo e kau taulaʻeiki lahi ʻae kau tangata fekau, ke nau puke ia.
The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.
33 Pea lea ai ʻa Sisu kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku toe siʻi pe ʻeku ʻiate kimoutolu, peau ʻalu kiate ia naʻa ne fekau au.”
Then Jesus said, "I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.
34 Te mou kumi au, pea ʻikai ʻiloʻi pea ko e potu te u ʻi ai, ʻe ʻikai te mou faʻa lava ki ai.
You will seek me, but won't find; and where I am, you cannot come."
35 Pea fepehēʻaki ai ʻae kakai Siu, “ʻE ʻalu ki fē ia, ʻe ʻikai te tau faʻa ʻiloʻi ia? Te ne ʻalu ki he ngaahi Senitaile kuo fakahēʻi, pea ako ki he Senitaile?
The Jewish leaders therefore said among themselves, "Where will this man go that we won't find him? Will he go to the Diaspora among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
36 Ko e hā ʻae lea ko eni ʻoku ne pehē ai, Te mou kumi au, pea ʻikai te mou ʻiloʻi: pea ko e potu te u ʻi ai, ʻe ʻikai te mou faʻa lava ki ai?”
What is this word that he said, 'You will seek me, but won't find; and where I am, you cannot come'?"
37 ʻI he ʻaho fakaʻosi, ko e [ʻaho ]lahi ʻoe kātoanga, naʻe tuʻu ʻa Sisu ʻo kalanga, ʻo pehē, “Kapau ʻoku fieinu ha tangata, ke haʻu ia kiate au ʻo inu.
Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.
38 Ko ia ʻoku tui kiate au, ʻo hangē ko ia kuo fakahā ʻi he tohi, ‘ʻE tafe mei hono loto ʻae ngaahi vai moʻui.’”
He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water."
39 (Ka ko ʻene lea ia ki he Laumālie, ʻaia ʻe maʻu ʻekinautolu ʻoku tui kiate ia: he naʻe teʻeki ai [foaki ]ʻae Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni; koeʻuhi naʻe teʻeki ai hakeakiʻi ʻa Sisu.)
But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
40 Pea ʻi he fanongo ʻae kakai tokolahi ki he lea ni, naʻa nau pehē, “Ko e moʻoni ko eni ʻae Palōfita.”
Some of the crowd therefore, when they heard these words, said, "This is truly the Prophet."
41 Pea pehē ʻe he niʻihi, “Ko eni ʻae Kalaisi.” Ka naʻe lea ʻae niʻihi, “ʻE haʻu ʻae Kalaisi mei Kāleli?
Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?
42 ʻIkai ʻoku tala ʻi he tohi, ʻE haʻu ʻae Kalaisi ʻi he hako ʻo Tevita, pea mei he kolo ko Petelihema, naʻe ʻi ai ʻa Tevita?”
Hasn't the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"
43 Pea naʻe fakakikihi ʻae kakai ko e meʻa ʻiate ia.
So there arose a division in the crowd because of him.
44 Pea naʻe loto ʻa honau niʻihi ke puke ia; ka naʻe ʻikai ala ha taha kiate ia.
Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.
45 Pea haʻu ai ʻae kau tangata fekau ki he kau taulaʻeiki lahi mo e kau Fālesi; pea nau pehē kiate kinautolu, “Ko e hā ʻoku ʻikai ai te mou ʻomi ia?”
The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, "Why did you not bring him?"
46 Pea talaange ʻe he kau tangata fekau, “ʻOku teʻeki ʻaupito ha tangata ʻe lea ʻo hangē ko e tangata ni.”
The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man."
47 Pea toki pehē ʻe he kau Fālesi kiate kinautolu, “Kuo kākaaʻi mo kimoutolu foki?
The Pharisees therefore answered them, "You are not also led astray, are you?
48 He kuo tui kiate ia ha niʻihi ʻi he kau pule pe ʻi he kau Fālesi?
Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?
49 Ka kuo malaʻia ʻae kakai ni ʻoku taʻeʻilo ki he fono.”
But this crowd that does not know the Law is accursed."
50 Pea lea ʻa Nikotimasi kiate kinautolu, (ko ia ia naʻe haʻu kia [Sisu ]ʻi he poʻuli, ) he ko honau tokotaha ia,
Nicodemus (he who came to him before, being one of them) said to them,
51 “ʻOku tukuakiʻi ha tangata ʻe hotau fono ʻi he teʻeki fanongo ki ai, pea ʻilo ʻaia ʻoku ne fai?”
"Does our Law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?"
52 Pea naʻa nau leaange, ʻo pehē kiate ia, “He ko e Kāleli foki ʻa koe? Kumi, pea vakai: he ʻoku ʻikai ha palōfita ʻe tupu mei Kāleli.”
They answered him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet comes from Galilee."
53 Pea naʻe taki taha ʻalu ki hono fale.
Then everyone went to his own house,
