1 Hili eni, naʻe ai ʻae kātoanga ʻae kakai Siu: pea naʻe ʻalu hake ʻa Sisu ki Selūsalema.
After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Pea ʻoku ʻi Selūsalema, [ʻo ofi ] ki he [matapā sipi], ʻae ano vai, ʻoku ui ʻi he lea fakaHepelū ko Peteseta, naʻe nima hono fale hala.
Now there is at Jerusalem near the sheep-market a pool, called in Hebrew Bethesda, with five porticos about it.
3 Pea naʻe tatoka ai ʻae kakai mahaki tokolahi, ko e kui, mo e pipiki, mo e mamatea, ʻi he tatali ki he ngaueue ʻoe vai.
In these lay a great number of people that were infirm, blind, lame, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 He naʻe ʻalu hifo ha ʻāngelo ki he ano ʻi ha ʻaho, ʻo fakangaueue ʻae vai: pea ko ia ʻe fuofua tuʻu ki he vai, hili hono fakangaueue, naʻe fakamoʻui ia mei hono mahaki kotoa pē.
For an angel descended at a certain season into the pool, and moved the water; the first therefore that went in after the disturbing of the water, was cured of whatever malady he laboured under.
5 Pea naʻe ʻi ai ʻae tangata ʻe taha naʻe moʻua ʻi he mahaki ʻi he taʻu ʻe tolungofulu ma valu.
And there was a man who had been under illness thirty eight years.
6 Ka kuo mamata ʻa Sisu ki heʻene tokoto, ʻo ne ʻilo kuo fuoloa ʻene moʻua, naʻe fehuʻi ia ki ai, “Ko ho loto ke ke moʻui?”
Jesus seeing him lie there, and knowing that he had been now a long time ill, saith unto him, Dost thou desire to be cured?
7 Pea pehē ʻe he mahaki kiate ia, “ʻEiki, ʻoku ʻikai ha tangata, ʻoka fakangaueue ʻae vai, ke ne hiki au ki he ano: kae lolotonga ʻeku ʻalu, ʻoku muʻomuʻa hifo ʻiate au ha taha kehe.”
The infirm man answered Him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is moved, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another goes down before me.
8 Pea tala ʻe Sisu kiate ia, “Tuʻu hake, pea toʻo ho mohenga, ʻo ʻalu.”
Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 Pea fakafokifā pe kuo moʻui ʻae tangata, ʻo ne toʻo hono mohenga, pea ʻalu pea ko e ʻaho ko ia ko e Sāpate.
And immediately the man was cured: and he took up his bed and walked.
10 Ko ia naʻe pehē ai ʻae kakai Siu kiate ia kuo fakamoʻui, “Ko e ʻaho Sāpate eni: ʻoku ʻikai ngofua ke ke fua ho mohenga.”
Now this was the sabbath-day, therefore the Jews said to him that was cured, It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
11 Pea talaange ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “Ko ia naʻa ne fakamoʻui au, ko ia pe naʻe pehē kiate au, ‘Toʻo ho mohenga, ʻo ʻalu.’”
He answered them, He, that made me well, said unto me, Take up thy bed and walk.
12 Pea naʻa nau fehuʻi ai kiate ia, “Ko hai ʻae tangata ko ia naʻe pehē kiate koe, “Toʻo ho mohenga, ʻo ʻalu?”
Therefore they asked him, Who is the man that said to thee, Take up thy bed and walk?
13 Pea ko ia kuo fakamoʻui naʻe ʻikai te ne ʻilo pe ko hai ia: he naʻe mahuʻi mei ai ʻa Sisu, he naʻe ʻi ai ʻae tokolahi.
but he, that was healed, did not know who it was: for Jesus had withdrawn himself, there being many people in the place.
14 Hili ia, naʻe ʻilo ia ʻe Sisu ʻi he falelotu lahi, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “Vakai, kuo fakamoʻui koe: ʻoua naʻa ke toe fai angahala, telia naʻa tō kiate koe ha kovi lahi hake.”
Afterwards Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art healed; sin no more, least something worse befal thee.
15 Pea ʻalu ʻae tangata, ʻo fakahā ki he kakai Siu ko Sisu ia, naʻa ne fakamoʻui ia.
And the man went away, and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had healed him.
16 Pea ko ia naʻe fakatangaʻi ai ʻa Sisu ʻe he kakai Siu, ʻonau fie tāmateʻi ia, koeʻuhi ko ʻene fai ʻae meʻa ni ʻi he ʻaho Sāpate.
And for this did the Jews persecute Jesus, and endeavoured to put Him to death; because He had done these things on the sabbath-day.
17 Ka naʻe talaange ʻe Sisu kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku kei ngāue ni ʻa ʻeku Tamai, pea ʻoku ou ngāue foki.”
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh without intermission, and so do I.
18 Ko ia naʻe ʻāsili ai ʻae fie tāmateʻi ia ʻe he kakai Siu, he naʻe ʻikai ke ngata ʻi he maumauʻi ʻae Sāpate, ka ko ʻene pehē foki, ko e ʻOtua ko ʻene Tamai, ʻo ne fakatatau ai ia ki he ʻOtua.
For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He had not only broken the sabbath, but had also called God his own Father, making Himself equal with God.
19 Pea leaange ʻa Sisu, ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, Ko e moʻoni, ko e moʻoni, ʻoku ou tala kiate kimoutolu, “ʻOku ʻikai faʻa fai ʻe he ʻAlo ha meʻa ʻe ia pē, ka ko ia ʻoku ne mamata ʻoku fai ʻe he Tamai: he ko e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ne fai, ʻoku fai ia ʻe he ʻAlo foki.
Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily I say unto you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He seeth the Father do: for whatsoever He doth, these also the Son doth in like manner.
20 He ʻoku ʻofa ʻae Tamai ki he ʻAlo, ʻo ne fakahā kiate ia ʻae ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ne fai: pea te ne fakahā kiate ia ʻae ngaahi ngāue lahi ʻi he meʻa ni, ke mou ofo ai.
For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth Him all things, which He Himself doth: and He will shew Him greater than these, that ye may wonder.
21 He ʻoku hangē ʻoku fokotuʻu mo fakaake ʻe he Tamai ʻae mate; ʻoku pehē ʻae fakaake ʻe he ʻAlo ʻaia kotoa pē ʻoku loto ia ki ai.
For as the Father raiseth up the dead and giveth life: even so the Son maketh alive whom He pleaseth.
22 He ʻoku ʻikai fakamaau ha tokotaha ʻe he Tamai, ka kuo ne tuku ʻae fakamaau kotoa pē ki he ʻAlo:
For neither doth the Father judge any one, but hath committed all judgement to the Son;
23 Koeʻuhi ke fakaʻapaʻapa kotoa pē ki he ʻAlo, ʻo hangē ko ʻenau fakaʻapaʻapa ki he Tamai. Ko ia ʻoku ʻikai fakaʻapaʻapa ki he ʻAlo, ʻoku ʻikai fakaʻapaʻapa ia ki he Tamai naʻa ne fekau ia.
that all men may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father: he, that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father that sent Him.
24 “Ko e moʻoni, ko e moʻoni, ʻoku ou tala kiate kimoutolu, Ko ia ʻoku fanongo ki heʻeku lea, ʻo tui kiate ia naʻa ne fekau au, ʻoku ʻiate ia ʻae moʻui taʻengata, pea ʻe ʻikai fakamalaʻia ia; ka kuo hao mei he mate ki he moʻui. (aiōnios g166)
Verily, verily I say unto you, he, that heareth my word, and believeth in Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come under condemnation; but is passed from death to life. (aiōnios g166)
25 Ko e moʻoni, ko e moʻoni, ʻoku ou tala kiate kimoutolu, ʻOku haʻu ʻae ʻaho, pea ko eni ia, ʻe fanongo ai ʻae mate ki he leʻo ʻoe ʻAlo ʻoe ʻOtua; pea ko kinautolu ʻe fanongo te nau moʻui.
Verily, verily I tell you, that the time is coming, and even now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live.
26 He ʻoku hangē ʻoku maʻu ʻe he Tamai ʻae moʻui ʻiate ia pē; pea ʻoku pehē pe ʻene tuku ki he ʻAlo, ke ne maʻu ʻae moʻui ʻiate ia pe;
For as the Father hath life in Himself, so hath He given also to the Son to have life in Himself.
27 Pea kuo ne tuku kiate ia ʻae pule ke ʻaʻana ʻae fai ʻoe fakamaau foki, koeʻuhi ko e ʻAlo ia ʻoe tangata.
And hath given Him authority also to execute judgement, because He is the Son of man.
28 ʻOua te mou ofo ai: he ʻoku haʻu ʻae ʻaho, ʻe fanongo ai ki hono leʻo ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku ʻi he ngaahi tanuʻanga,
Wonder not at this; for the time is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 Pea te nau ʻalu atu; ko kinautolu naʻe fai lelei, ki he toetuʻu ʻoe moʻui; mo kinautolu naʻe fai kovi, ki he toetuʻu ʻoe fakamalaʻia.
and shall come forth, they that have done good to the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil to the resurrection of damnation.
30 “ʻOku ʻikai te u faʻa fai ʻeau pe ha meʻa: ʻoku hangē ko ʻeku fanongo, ʻa ʻeku fakamaau: pea ʻoku totonu ʻeku fakamaau; koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai te u fai ki hoku loto ʻoʻoku, ka ko e finangalo ʻoe Tamai naʻa ne fekau au.
I can do nothing of my self: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father that hath sent me.
31 “Kapau te u fakamoʻoni au ʻeau pē, tā ʻoku ʻikai moʻoni ʻeku fakamoʻoni.
If I alone bear witness of my self, my testimony is not true in law:
32 ʻOku ai ha tokotaha kehe ʻoku ne fakamoʻoniʻi au; pea ʻoku ou ʻilo ko ʻene fakamoʻoni kiate au ʻoku moʻoni.
but there is another who testifieth concerning me; and I know that the testimony, which he giveth concerning me, is true.
33 Naʻa mou fekau kia Sione, pea naʻa ne fakamoʻoni ʻe ia ki he moʻoni.
Ye your selves sent unto John, and he bore witness to the truth:
34 Ka ʻoku ʻikai ʻaonga kiate au ʻae fakamoʻoni mei he tangata: ka ʻoku ou lea ʻaki eni koeʻuhi ke mou moʻui.
though I need not testimony from man; but I say these things that ye may be saved.
35 Ko e maama vela mo ulo ia: pea naʻa mou loto ʻo fuoloa siʻi pē ke fiefia ʻi hono maama.
He was indeed a burning and shining light, and for a while ye willingly rejoiced in his light.
36 Ka ʻoku ou maʻu ʻae fakamoʻoni lahi ʻia Sione: he ko e ngaahi ngāue kuo tuku kiate au ʻe he Tamai ke u fai, ko e ngāue ko ia ʻoku ou fai, ʻoku fakamoʻoni kiate au, kuo fekau au ʻe he Tamai.
But I have a testimony greater than John's: for the works which the Father hath given me to perform, the very works which I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
37 Pea ko e Tamai, ʻaia naʻa ne fekau au, kuo ne fakamoʻoni kiate au. Naʻe ʻikai te mou fanongo ʻi ha kuonga ki hono leʻo, pe mamata ki hono anga.
And the Father who sent me, hath Himself borne witness of me: and yet ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.
38 Pea ʻoku ʻikai nofoʻia ʻakimoutolu ʻe heʻene folofola: he ko ia naʻa ne fekau, ʻoku ʻikai te mou tui ki ai.
And ye have not his word abiding in you; because ye believe not Him, whom He hath sent.
39 ʻOku mou kumi lahi ʻi he ngaahi [tohitapu ]koeʻuhi ʻoku mou ʻamanaki ke maʻu ai ʻae moʻui taʻengata: pea ko ia ia ʻoku fakamoʻoni kiate au. (aiōnios g166)
Ye search the scriptures; for ye think that in them ye have eternal life: (aiōnios g166)
40 Ka ʻoku ʻikai te mou loto ke haʻu kiate au, koeʻuhi ke mou moʻui.
and they testify of me: and yet ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.
41 “ʻOku ʻikai te u maʻu ʻae fakamālō mei he tangata.
Though I desire not applause from men:
42 Ka ʻoku ou ʻilo ʻakimoutolu, ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate kimoutolu ʻae ʻofa ʻae ʻOtua.
but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 Kuo u haʻu au ʻi he huafa ʻo ʻeku Tamai, pea ʻoku ʻikai te mou maʻu au: kapau ʻe haʻu ha taha ʻi hono hingoa ʻoʻona, te mou maʻu ia.
I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another should come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 ʻE faʻa tui fēfē ʻakimoutolu, ʻoku mou fetaliʻaki ʻae fefakamālōʻaki ʻiate kimoutolu, ka ʻoku ʻikai te mou kumi ki he fakamālō mei he ʻOtua pē?
How can ye believe, who receive applause from each other, and the glory which is from God only, ye seek not?
45 ʻOua naʻa mahalo te u talatalaaki ʻakimoutolu ki he Tamai: ʻoku ai ha tokotaha ʻoku ne talatalaaki ʻakimoutolu, ʻa Mōsese, ʻoku mou falala ki ai.
Think not that I shall accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 He ka ne tui ʻakimoutolu kia Mōsese, pehē, kuo mou tui kiate au: he naʻe tohi ʻe ia kiate au.
For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote concerning me:
47 Pea kapau ʻoku ʻikai te mou tui ki heʻene ngaahi tohi, ʻe fēfeeʻi hoʻomou tui ki heʻeku ngaahi lea?”
but if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
