1 Pea toe ono ʻae ʻaho [pea fai ]ʻae [kātoanga ʻoe ]Lakaatu, pea haʻu ʻa Sisu ki Pētani, naʻe ʻi ai ʻa Lasalosi ʻaia naʻe fokotuʻu ʻe ia mei he mate.
Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had died, whom He raised out of the dead;
2 Pea naʻa nau te u ai kiate ia ʻae ʻohomohe: pea tauhi ʻe Māʻata: ka ko e tokotaha ʻa Lasalosi ʻokinautolu naʻe nofo mo ia ʻi he keinangaʻanga.
they made, therefore, a dinner to Him there, and Martha was ministering, and Lazarus was one of those reclining together with Him;
3 Pea toʻo ʻe Mele ʻae lolo ko e naʻati moʻoni, ko e lau taha [hono mamafa], ko e koloa lahi, ʻo ne tākai ʻaki ʻae vaʻe ʻo Sisu, ʻo holoholo ʻaki hono vaʻe ʻa hono louʻulu: pea naʻe pito ʻae fale ʻi he namu lelei ʻoe lolo.
Mary, therefore, having taken a pound of ointment of spikenard, of great price, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair, and the house was filled from the fragrance of the ointment.
4 Pea lea ai ʻae tokotaha ʻo ʻene ākonga, ko Siutasi ʻIsikaliote, ko e foha ʻo Saimone, ʻaia ʻe lavakiʻi ia,
Therefore one of His disciples—Judas Iscariot, of Simon, who is about to deliver Him up—says,
5 “Ko e hā naʻe ʻikai fakatau ai ʻae lolo ni ʻaki ʻae tenali ʻe tolungeau, pea foaki ki he masiva?”
“Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?”
6 Naʻa ne lea ʻaki eni, ka naʻe ʻikai ko ʻene tokanga ki he masiva; ka koeʻuhi ko e kaihaʻa ia, pea naʻe ʻiate ia ʻae kato, ʻo ne fua ʻaia naʻe tuku ki ai.
And he said this, not because he was caring for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and what things were put in he was carrying.
7 Pea lea ai ʻa Sisu, “Tuku ai pe ia: kuo tauhi ʻe ia ʻae meʻa ni ki he ʻaho ʻo hoku tanu.
Jesus, therefore, said, “Permit her; she has kept it for the day of My embalming,
8 He ʻoku ʻiate kimoutolu maʻuaipē ʻae masiva; ka ʻoku ʻikai teu ʻiate kimoutolu maʻuaipē au.”
for you always have the poor with yourselves, and you do not always have Me.”
9 Pea naʻe ʻilo ʻe he tokolahi ʻoe kakai Siu ʻoku ʻi ai ia: pea naʻa nau haʻu, ka naʻe ʻikai koeʻuhi ko Sisu pe, ka koeʻuhi ke nau mamata kia Lasalosi foki, ʻaia naʻa ne fokotuʻu mei he mate.
Therefore, a great multitude of the Jews knew that He is there, and they came, not only because of Jesus, but that they may also see Lazarus, whom He raised out of the dead;
10 Ka naʻe alea ʻae kau taulaʻeiki lahi, ke nau tāmateʻi ʻa Lasalosi foki;
and the chief priests took counsel, that they may also kill Lazarus,
11 Koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ʻiate ia naʻe mahuʻi ʻae tokolahi ʻoe kau Siu, ʻo tui kia Sisu.
because on account of him many of the Jews were going away, and were believing in Jesus.
12 ʻI he ʻaho naʻa na feholoi, naʻe fanongo ʻae kakai tokolahi kuo haʻu ki he kātoanga, ʻoku haʻu ʻa Sisu ki Selūsalema,
On the next day, a great multitude that came to the celebration, having heard that Jesus comes to Jerusalem,
13 Naʻa nau toʻo mai ʻae ngaahi vaʻa ponga, ʻonau ʻalu atu ke fakafetaulaki kiate ia, ʻonau kalanga, “Hosana: ʻOku monūʻia ʻae Tuʻi ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻoku hāʻele mai ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova.”
took the branches of the palms, and went forth to meet Him, and were crying, “Hosanna! Blessed [is] He who is coming in the Name of the LORD—the King of Israel”;
14 Pea kuo maʻu ʻe Sisu ʻae ʻasi mui, naʻa ne heka ai; ʻo hangē ko ia kuo tohi,
and Jesus having found a young donkey sat on it, according as it is written,
15 “ʻE taʻahine ʻo Saione, ʻoua ʻe manavahē: vakai, ʻoku haʻu ho Tuʻi, ʻoku heka ki he ʻuhikiʻi ʻasi.”
“Do not fear, daughter of Zion, behold, your King comes, sitting on a colt of a donkey.”
16 Ko e ngaahi meʻa ni, naʻe ʻikai tomuʻa ʻilo ʻe heʻene kau ākonga; ka ʻi he hakeakiʻi ʻa Sisu, naʻa nau manatu ai kuo tohi ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate ia, pea kuo nau fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate ia.
And His disciples did not know these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were having been written about Him, and these things they did to Him.
17 Pea naʻe fakamoʻoni ʻae kakai ko ia naʻe ʻiate ia ʻi heʻene ui ʻa Lasalosi mei he tanuʻanga, ʻo ne fokotuʻu ia mei he mate.
The multitude, therefore, who are with Him, were testifying that He called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him out of the dead;
18 Ko ia naʻe fakafetaulaki ai ʻae kakai kiate ia, he naʻa nau fanongo kuo ne fai ʻae mana ni.
because of this the multitude also met Him, because they heard of His having done this sign,
19 Pea ko ia naʻe alea ai ʻae kau Fālesi ʻiate kinautolu, ʻIkai te mou vakai ʻoku ʻikai ʻaupito te mou lavaʻi ha meʻa? “Vakai, kuo muimui ʻae kakai kotoa pē ʻiate ia.”
therefore the Pharisees said among themselves, “You see that you do not gain anything, behold, the world went after Him.”
20 Pea naʻe ai ʻae kau Kiliki niʻihi ʻiate kinautolu naʻe ʻalu hake ke hū ʻi he kātoanga.
And there were certain Greeks out of those coming up that they may worship in the celebration,
21 Pea naʻa nau haʻu kia Filipe, ʻaia naʻe ʻo Petesaita ʻi Kāleli, ʻonau kole kiate ia, ʻo pehē, ʻEiki, ʻoku mau fie mamata kia Sisu.
these then came near to Philip, who [is] from Bethsaida of Galilee, and were asking him, saying, “Lord, we wish to see Jesus”;
22 Pea naʻe ʻalu ʻa Filipe ʻo tala kia ʻAnitelū: pea toe tala kia Sisu ʻe ʻAnitelū mo Filipe.
Philip comes and tells Andrew, and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 Pea leaange ʻa Sisu kiate kinautolu, ʻo pehē, “Kuo hokosia ʻae ʻaho, ke fakaongoongolelei ai ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata.
And Jesus responded to them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man may be glorified;
24 Ko e moʻoni, ko e moʻoni, ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, Kapau ʻoku ʻikai mokulu ʻae tengaʻi uite ki he kelekele pea mate, ʻoku nofo taha ai pe: ka ʻi heʻene mate, ʻoku tupu mei ai ʻae fua lahi.
truly, truly, I say to you, if the grain of the wheat, having fallen to the earth, may not die, itself remains alone; and if it may die, it bears much fruit;
25 Ko ia ʻoku ʻofa ki heʻene moʻui, ʻe mole ia ʻiate ia; pea ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki heʻene moʻui ʻi he māmani, te ne maʻu ia ki he moʻui taʻengata. (aiōnios g166)
he who is cherishing his life will lose it, and he who is hating his life in this world will keep it to continuous life; (aiōnios g166)
26 Kapau ʻoku tauhi au ʻe ha tangata, tuku ke ne muimui ʻiate au; pea ko e potu teu ʻi ai, ʻe ʻi ai foki ʻa ʻeku tamaioʻeiki: kapau ʻoku tauhi au ʻe ha tangata, ʻe fakaongoongolelei ia ʻe he Tamai.
if anyone may minister to Me, let him follow Me, and where I am, there My servant will be also; and if anyone may minister to Me—the Father will honor him.
27 “Ko eni kuo mamahi hoku laumālie; pea ko e hā ʻeku lea? [Te u pehē], ʻE Tamai, fakamoʻui au mei he ʻaho ni? Ka naʻaku haʻu koeʻuhi [ke u hokosia ]ʻae ʻaho ni.
Now My soul has been troubled; and what will I say—Father, save Me from this hour? But because of this I came to this hour;
28 ʻE Tamai, fakaongoongolelei ho huafa.” Pea naʻe hoko mai ʻae leʻo ni mei he langi, “Kuo u fakaongoongolelei ia, pea te u toe fakaongoongolelei ia.”
Father, glorify Your Name.” Therefore there came a voice out of Heaven, “I both glorified, and again I will glorify [it]”;
29 Pea ko ia naʻe pehē ai ʻe he kakai naʻe tutuʻu [ai], mo ongoʻi [ia], ko e mana: pea pehē ʻe he niʻihi, “Ko e ʻāngelo ʻoku lea kiate ia.”
the multitude, therefore, having stood and heard, were saying that there has been thunder; others said, “A messenger has spoken to Him.”
30 Pea leaange ʻa Sisu, ʻo ne pehē, “Naʻe ʻikai ongo mai ʻae leʻo ni koeʻuhi ko au, ka koeʻuhi ko kimoutolu.
Jesus answered and said, “This voice has not come because of Me, but because of you;
31 Ko eni ʻae fakamaau ʻoe māmani ʻe kapusi eni ʻae ʻeiki ʻoe māmani kituaʻā,
now is a judgment of this world, now will the ruler of this world be cast forth;
32 Pea kapau ʻe hiki au ki ʻolunga mei he fonua, te u tohoaki ʻae kakai kotoa pē kiate au.”
and I, if I may be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.”
33 Ko ʻene lea pehē, ko e fakahā ʻae mateʻanga ko ia ʻe mate ai ia.
And this He said signifying by what death He was about to die;
34 Pea leaange ʻae kakai kiate ia, “Kuo mau fanongo mei he fono ʻoku nofo ʻae Kalaisi ʻo taʻengata: pea ʻoku fēfē hoʻo lau, ʻE hiki hake ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata? ʻE fēfē nai ʻae Foha ko ia ʻoe tangata? (aiōn g165)
the multitude answered Him, “We heard that the Christ remains out of the Law—throughout the age; and how do You say that it is required that the Son of Man be lifted up? Who is this—the Son of Man?” (aiōn g165)
35 Pea talaange ʻe Sisu kiate kinautolu, “ʻE toetoe siʻi pe ʻene ʻiate kimoutolu ʻae maama. ʻEveʻeva lolotonga hoʻomou maʻu ʻae maama telia naʻa tō ʻae poʻuli kiate kimoutolu: he ko ia ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi he poʻuli, ʻoku ʻikai ʻilo ʻe ia pe ko ʻene ʻalu ki fē.
Therefore Jesus said to them, “Yet a short time is the light with you; walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he who is walking in the darkness has not known where he goes;
36 ʻI hoʻomou kei maʻu ʻae maama, tui ki he maama, koeʻuhi ke mou hoko ko e fānau ʻae maama.” Naʻe lea ʻaki ʻe Sisu ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni, pea ʻalu, ʻo ne fufū ia ʻiate kinautolu.
while you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” Jesus spoke these things, and having gone away, He was hid from them,
37 He kuo fai ʻe ia ʻae ngaahi mana lahi ʻi honau ʻao, ka naʻe ʻikai te nau tui kiate ia:
yet He, having done so many signs before them, they were not believing in Him,
38 Pea naʻe fakamoʻoni ai ʻae lea ʻae palōfita ko ʻIsaia, ʻaia naʻe pehē, “ʻEiki, ko hai kuo tui ki heʻemau fakaongoongoa? Pea kuo fakahā kia hai ʻae nima ʻo Sihova?”
that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, “LORD, who gave credence to our report? And the arm of the LORD—to whom was it revealed?”
39 Ko ia naʻe ʻikai ai te nau faʻa tui, he naʻe toe tala foki ʻe ʻIsaia,
Because of this they were not able to believe, that again Isaiah said,
40 “Kuo fakakui ʻe ia honau mata, ʻo fakafefeka honau loto; ke ʻoua naʻa nau vakai ʻaki honau mata, pe ʻilo ʻaki honau loto, pea liliu, peau fakamoʻui ʻakinautolu.”
“He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they might not see with the eyes, and understand with the heart, and turn, and I might heal them”;
41 Ko e ngaahi meʻa ni naʻe lea ʻaki ʻe ʻIsaia, ʻi heʻene mamata ki hono nāunau, pea ne lea kiate ia.
Isaiah said these things when he saw His glory, and spoke of Him.
42 Pea naʻe tui kiate ia ʻae tokolahi ʻi he kau pule foki; ka ko e meʻa ʻi he kau Fālesi, naʻe ʻikai te nau fakahā ia, telia naʻa kapusi ʻakinautolu mei he falelotu:
Still, however, out of the rulers many also believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing, that they might not be put out of the synagogue,
43 He naʻe lahi ʻenau manako ki he fakamālō ʻae tangata ʻi he fakamālō ʻae ʻOtua.
for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.
44 Pea kalanga ʻa Sisu ʻo pehē, “Ko ia ʻoku tui kiate au, ʻoku ʻikai tui kiate au [pe], ka kiate ia naʻa ne fekau au.
And Jesus cried and said, “He who is believing in Me, does not believe in Me, but in Him who sent Me;
45 Pea ko ia ʻoku ne mamata kiate au, ʻoku ne mamata kiate ia naʻa ne fekau au.
and He who is beholding Me, beholds Him who sent Me;
46 Kuo u haʻu au ko e maama ki māmani, koeʻuhi ko ia ʻe tui kiate au ke ʻoua naʻa nofo ia ʻi he poʻuli.
I—light to the world—have come, that everyone who is believing in Me may not remain in the darkness;
47 Pea kapau ʻoku fanongo ha tangata ki heʻeku ngaahi lea, kae ʻikai tui, ʻoku ʻikai te u fakamaauʻi ia: he naʻe ʻikai te u haʻu ke fakamaauʻi ʻa māmani, ka ke fakamoʻui ʻa māmani.
and if anyone may hear My sayings, and not believe, I do not judge him, for I did not come that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world.
48 Ko ia ʻoku ne liʻaki au ʻo ʻikai maʻu ʻeku ngaahi lea, ʻoku ai ha taha ʻoku fakamaauʻi ia: ko e lea kuo u lea ʻaki, ko ia te ne fakamaauʻi ia ʻi he ʻaho fakamui.
He who is rejecting Me, and not receiving My sayings, has one who is judging him, the word that I spoke, that will judge him in the last day,
49 He naʻe ʻikai te u lea ʻiate au; ka ko e Tamai naʻa ne fekau au, kuo ne puleʻi au ʻi he meʻa te u fekau, mo ia te u lea ʻaki.
because I did not speak from Myself, but the Father who sent Me, He gave Me a command, what I may say, and what I may speak,
50 Pea ʻoku ou ʻilo ko ʻene fekau ko e moʻui taʻengata: ko ia ko e meʻa ʻoku ou lea ʻaki, ʻoku ou lea ʻaki ʻo hangē ko e fekau ʻae Tamai kiate au.” (aiōnios g166)
and I have known that His command is continuous life; what, therefore, I speak, according as the Father has said to Me, so I speak.” (aiōnios g166)
